Two men have been arrested here for allegedly attacking a shopkeeper in Pydhoni area of south Mumbai, a police official said on Saturday. The two accused had a heated argument with the shopkeeper earlier on the Friday evening while buying something, said a police official. Later, they returned with swords and attacked him and the staff inside the shop. The incident was captured by CCTV cameras. Police arrested the duo, residents of Mahim area, from adjoining Thane district, the official said. A case under Indian Penal Code sections including 326 (voluntary causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapon) and Arms Act was registered and further investigation was underway, he added. A woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan in her room in Jodhpur, police said on Saturday. However, the family of Renu Meena, 32, who hailed from Kota and was posted as a nurse at the Radiology Department of MDM Hospital for the past three years, alleged she was murdered by a male nurse who stayed in a room near hers and hanged her body to make it look like a suicide. Station House Officer (SHO), Shastri Nagar, Jogendra Singh said the police received information on Friday night that a nurse had committed suicide in her room. "When we reached the spot, the woman's body was lying on a bed," he said, adding post-mortem examination was conducted by a medical board. Prima facie, it is a case of suicide. No injury mark was found on her body and no suicide note was found in her room, Mr Singh said. Mercury soared in parts of Rajasthan on Friday with Sri Ganganagar being recorded as the hottest place in the arid state with a maximum temperature of 42.1 degrees Celsius. According to the Meteorological (MeT) department, the day temperature in the state at many places was recorded between 38 degree Celsius and 40 degree Celsius. India will deploy four Rafale jets, two C-17 aircraft and two IL-78 mid-air refuellers for a nearly three-week multinational air exercise at France's Mont-de-Marsan military base. It will be the first overseas exercise for the Indian Air Force's Rafale jets. The contingent of the Indian Air Force will leave for France on Friday. "An Indian Air Force (IAF) contingent will be departing tomorrow for France to participate in Exercise Orion at Mont-de-Marsan," the IAF said. "The exercise will be conducted from April 17 to May 5 with the IAF contingent comprising four Rafale jets, two C-17, two ll-78 aircraft and 165 air warriors. Goa Police on Thursday issued a notice to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, asking him to appear before it on April 27 in a case related to the illegal sticking of posters on public properties during the 2022 Assembly elections campaign. Inspector Dilipkumar Halarnkar of Pernem police station issued the notice to Mr Kejriwal, the national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), under section 41 (A) of the Code of Criminal Procedure. Under the section, police can summon a person for inquiry if there is "reasonable" complaint or suspicion that he had committed an offence. The Supreme Court Wednesday asked the Bihar government on whether it had conducted any study or had any empirical data to show whether liquor consumption has decreased after the enactment of prohibition law in the state. The top court said that though it is not raising a question on the intention of the government for the law, it is concerned that it is getting a number of bail applications, of which the lion's share emanates from the prohibition law. The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has summoned former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi for questioning in an alleged disproportionate assets case on Wednesday, official sources said. The Congress leader has been asked to appear for questioning at the bureau's office in Mohali, they said. It is for the first time that Mr Channi has been summoned for questioning in the case. The bureau has been probing allegations that Mr Channi amassed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. Last month, it issued a look-out circular against Mr Channi to prevent him from leaving the country. The body of an unidentified man was found stuffed inside a suitcase on the roadside here on Tuesday afternoon, police said. Information about a suspicious suitcase lying on the roadside of sector 28-29 bypass was received at around 1 pm, they said. Upon inspecting the luggage, police found that the half-naked body of a man was wrapped in a polythene bag with his hands and legs tied with a plastic rope, they said. The man seems to be around 28 to 30 years old, they said. No documents were found inside the suitcase for the man's identification, a senior police officer, adding efforts are being made to identify him. The Crime Branch team has started the investigation, the officer said. The body has been sent to the mortuary and an FIR has been registered in the matter at sector 31 police station, police said. At least 3 women were killed in a road accident on Monday after a speeding car reportedly ran over them in Assam's Dibrugarh. The victims, who were working as garden labourers, have been identified as Rita Bhakta, Sunita Bedia and Mina Bedia. The Supreme Court Monday voiced displeasure over bitter arguments between the Andhra Pradesh government and a leading Telugu newspaper over the choice of an Andhra Pradesh High Court bench to adjudicate the dispute regarding a government order on purchase of newspaper by local bodies volunteers, calling it a "sorry spectacle". India will get 9 per cent of its electricity from nuclear sources by 2047, the centenary year of the country's independence, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said on Sunday. The Science and Technology minister made these remarks after reviewing the functioning of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in Mumbai. Mr Singh said the rising share of nuclear power in India's energy basket would help it get closer to the commitment of achieving the net zero target by 2070. He said the Department of Atomic Energy has been given the target of achieving 20 gigawatts (GW) capacity of nuclear power generation by 2030, which will make India the third-largest producer of atomic energy in the world after the US and France. An Army team on Sunday visited the Hemkund Sahib, which will open for pilgrims on May 20, and inspected the road leading to the revered Sikh shrine in the Garhwal Himalayas in Uttarakhand, an official said. Narinderjit Singh Bindra, chairman of the Gurudwara Sri Hemkunt Sahib Management Trust, said the road to the shrine is enveloped by a 10-feet blanket of snow on the Atlakoti glacier. The shrine itself is covered by 8-12 feet of snow while the lake on whose banks it is situated is blanketed by a layer of snow, Bindra added. He added that the Army personnel would begin to clear the snow from the route from April 20. The road will be ready well before the pilgrimage season begins on May 20, Bindra said, quoting the Army team.
