Several Cops Injured During Anti-Waqf Protest Rally In Tripura

Several policemen sustained injuries during a clash between the security personnel and the agitators who held a protest rally against the recently enacted Waqf (Amendment) Act in northern Tripura's Kailashahar under Unakoti district on Saturday afternoon. The protest, organized by the Kailashahar Joint Action Committee, began from Tilabazar and proceeded towards Kubjhar area as they did not get police permission and decided to organise it outside the municipal area.  However, upon reaching Kubjhar, the situation escalated allegedly after a shoe was thrown towards the rally, which then took an ugly turn and a clash with police personnel followed. Bricks, stones, and glass bottles were thrown at cops.  This left Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Jayanta Karmakar, Police Inspector Jatindra Das, and several other officers injured.  The situation turned chaotic, forcing the police to resort to a mild lathi charge to disperse the crowd. India Successfully Conducts Trials Of Long-Range Glide Bomb 'Gaurav'

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully conducted the release trials of the long-range glide bomb "Gaurav" from the Sukhoi aircraft. "Gaurav" is a 1,000-kg class glide bomb designed and developed indigenously by the DRDO. The trials, conducted from April 8 to April 10, successfully demonstrated a range close to 100 km with pinpoint accuracy, the defence ministry said on Friday. The trials are paving the way for the induction of the weapon into the Indian Air Force (IAF), it said. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh complimented the DRDO, the IAF and the industry partners concerned for the successful development trials of "Gaurav". "Releasing Her..": Man Dies By Suicide After Killing Sick Wife, Leaves Note

In a tragic incident, an 80-year-old city resident allegedly killed his ailing wife and died by suicide in Nashik, police said on Thursday. Muralidhar Ramchandra Joshi, a retired school principal, said in his purported suicide note that he was "releasing" his wife Lata (76) from her prolonged illness and also himself. He had been looking after his wife, also a former teacher, with the help of caretaker Seema Rathod for the last four years, said an official of Upnagar police station. On Wednesday afternoon, Rathod left the couple's house on Jail Road after finishing her morning work. When she returned around 7 and opened the door with her keys, she found the couple dead, the official said. Delhi Records Highest Minimum Temperature In April At 25.6 Celsius In 3 Years

Delhi on Wednesday recorded its highest minimum temperature in April in three years, with the mercury settling at 25.6 degrees Celsius, 5.6 degrees above normal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). "Yesterday, warm night conditions were observed only at Palam. Today, they have been recorded at all five synoptic stations," the IMD said. In both 2024 and 2023, the minimum temperature had not touched 25 degrees Celsius, according to the weather department. The highest minimum temperature in 2024 was 24 degrees Celsius, while in 2023, it was 23.6 degrees, the data shows. A similar trend was seen in 2022, when the highest minimum temperature was recorded at 26.2 degrees Celsius. The IMD has forecast a partly cloudy sky and issued a yellow alert for heatwave conditions. The maximum temperature is expected to settle at around 40 degrees Celsius. Gold Smuggling Case: Ranya Rao's Judicial Custody Extended Till April 21

A special Bengaluru court on Monday extended, till April 21, the judicial custody of Kannada actress and gold smuggling case main accused Ranya Rao. The special court for economic offences also extended the judicial custody of the second accused, Tarun Raju, and the third accused, jeweller Sahil Sakaria Jain, till April 21. All accused are presently lodged at the Bengaluru Central Jail. The court, which rejected the bail petition of Tarun Raju, will take up the bail petition of Jain on April 9. Ranya Rao, the stepdaughter of senior police officer Ramchandra Rao, was arrested on March 3 for allegedly smuggling 14.2 kilograms of gold, valued at over Rs 12.56 crore. Meerut Murder Accused Found Pregnant During Health Check-Up: Official

Muskan Rastogi, who along with her lover is accused of killing her husband and is lodged in a jail here, was found to be pregnant during a preliminary test, officials said on Monday. Senior Jail Superintendent Viresh Raj Sharma said that health check-up and pregnancy test are done regularly for every female inmate coming to the jail and Muskan's test was also a part of this process. He said that he has not received the report of the doctors yet and has just received verbal information that Muskan is pregnant. Chief Medical Officer Dr Ashok Kataria said that Muskan was given a preliminary test, which confirmed her pregnancy. The US Supreme Court has denied 26/11 Mumbai terror attack accused Tahawwur Rana's last application seeking a stay on his extradition to India, moving him closer to being handed over to Indian authorities to face justice.
