Two persons drowned and five went missing in Madhya Pradesh's Morena district while crossing the Chambal river on their way to a temple in Rajasthan on Saturday morning, officials said. The rescuers fished out three bodies from the river, but one of them remained unidentified and as per the survivors was not a part of their group of 17. "Two bodies have been identified. Another could not be identified,” Morena district collector Ankit Asthana told PTI in the evening. The incident took place around 7 am when a group of 17 devotees from MP's Shivpuri district, heading for a temple fair in the neighbouring state, was crossing the river on foot thinking that water was shallow, a police officer said. The Bharatiya Janta Party and the Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will contest all 288 Assembly and 48 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra in alliance with other NDA constituents, BJP state president Chandrashekhar Bawankule said on Saturday.  A special court here on Friday convicted a man and his son for raping the latter's wife. Amarnath (60), a resident of Chandapur, and his son Chandraraj (35) were sentenced to 14 and 10 years of rigorous imprisonment. Giving details of the incident, Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar said the 30-year-old woman was physically assaulted and raped by her husband and father-in-law. The duo was out on bail but was arrested after the court's verdict, Mr Kumar said. The first Bharat Gaurav train for Telangana-Andhra Pradesh will depart from Secunderabad on Saturday, taking passengers on a tour of important religious, historical and cultural sites in northern and eastern parts of the country, the railway ministry said. The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will start the 'Punya Kshetra Yatra: Puri-Kasi-Ayodhya" from the Secunderabad railway station, it said. "This is the first 'Originating Bharat Gaurav Train' from the two Telugu states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. This tourist circuit train will take rail passengers to some of India's most ancient and significant places in eastern and northern parts of the country," the ministry said in a statement. The next train from the two states will run on April 18 and follow the same itinerary as the first, it said. Noida Police on Friday said a 30-year-old man was arrested for allegedly carrying counterfeit currency notes of Rs 38,220 face value that he had printed at his residence in Delhi after taking lessons from YouTube. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Noida) Rajeev Dixit said the accused was held by officials of Badalpur police station from the GT Road near Chhapraula village following a tip-off. "The police team succeeded in arresting a man who printed fake currency notes using a printer. The accused has been identified as Abdul Raqib, who currently lives in the Ghazipur area of Delhi, and is a native of Muzaffarpur in Bihar," Dixit said. "Abdul Raqib, along with his partner Pankaj, who also lived with him in Ghazipur in Delhi, used to work together in printing the fake currency notes. Two people were killed and some others were feared trapped under the rubble when the roof of a cold storage building collapsed in Chandausi on Thursday, a senior police officer said. 10 people had been rescued, Deputy Inspector General of Police Salabh Mathur said. Rescue workers were still working to bring others to safety. District Magistrate Manish Bansal said personnel of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and district administration are carrying out relief and rescue operations. Security forces recovered narcotics worth about Rs 7 crore near the Line of Control (LoC) in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Thursday. "On March 15, while on a routine area domination patrol, troops of Dagger Division found a suspicious package just a few metres away from the LoC in Uri sector," a police official said. He said a search operation by the security forces led to the recovery of approximately one kilogram of narcotics worth about Rs 7 crore from the general area of Churunda. A case has been registered in this regard, the official said. Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav on Wednesday challenged the summons issued by the CBI asking him to appear for questioning in the alleged land-for-jobs scam in the Delhi High Court. A bench led by Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma will hear his petition tomorrow. Mr Yadav, in his petition, argued that even though he was a resident of Patna, he was being asked to appear for questioning in Delhi, which is in violation of Section 160 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). As per the provision, he said, a notice can only be issued to a person who is situated within the local jurisdiction of a police station or the adjoining police station. The 33-year-old, through the petition, requested time from the CBI to appear before it after the end of the current Bihar Assembly session. The Delhi government is establishing two new campuses of the Ambedkar University to increase the number of seats and has prioritised re-conceptualisation of technical institutes, Education Minister Atishi said on Wednesday. Reviewing projects for higher education, the minister instructed officials to prepare an action plan for modernisation and expansion of all universities and technical education institutions of the Delhi government. "In Delhi, 2.5 lakh children pass out of class 12. But despite having talent and ability, only one lakh of these children get admission in any university. Two days after the death of a tusker, Odisha forest officials have found another carcass of an elephant in Ganjam district on Wednesday. The female elephant was found dead at Tiliki forest on the Ganjam-Kandhamal district border in Ghumusar North Division, an official said. The age of the animal is around 30 years, and the cause of its death could be ascertained only after post-mortem examination, said Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Sudarshan Behera. On Monday, forest personnel had found the carcass of a 30-year-old tusker near Gambhari Gochha village in Muzagarh forest range. At least eight elephants have died in the district in the last eight months, including seven in Ghumusar North Division due to different reasons, forest department sources said. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday arrested jailed Trinamool Congress (TMC) strongman Anubrata Mondal's chartered accountant Manish Kothari after his day-long questioning in connection with the West Bengal cattle smuggling case. A close aide of Mr Mondal, Mr Kothari was arrested by the ED after his questioning at the ED headquarters here for nearly 10 hours, said sources. A successful flight-test of power take off (PTO) shaft was conducted on the Light Combat Aircraft Tejas in Bengaluru on Tuesday, the defence ministry said. The PTO is a critical equipment that transmits power from aircraft engine to gearbox. The ministry said the maiden successful flight-test of PTO shaft was conducted on LCA Tejas Limited Series Production (LSP)-3 aircraft. "With this successful test, the DRDO has achieved a greater technological feat by realisation of complex high-speed rotor technology which only few countries have achieved," it said. The PTO shaft is indigenously designed and developed by Chennai-based Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). India's engagement with China is "complex" and Chinese attempts to unilaterally alter the status quo along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh starting from April-May 2020 seriously disturbed the peace and tranquility in border areas and impacted overall ties, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a report on Monday. It said the Chinese attempts were invariably met with an "appropriate response" from Indian armed forces. The Supreme Court on Monday said the Ministry of Defence cannot take law in its own hands by issuing a communication "unilaterally" that One Rank-One Pension (OROP) arrears to pensioners of the armed forces will be paid in four installments and sought a payment plan by March 20. Noting that over four lakh pensioners have died since the OROP litigation started in 2016, the court also asked the defence ministry to immediately withdraw its communication and told Attorney General R Venkataramani to prepare a note giving details of the quantum of payment to be paid, the modalities to be adopted and what's the priority segment. The January 20, 2023 communication had said the OROP arrears will be paid in four equal installments to ex-servicemen.
