Intelligence gathering has taken a back seat in the Union Budget 2025-26 as the Centre has reduced the flow of funds of several verticals that deal with intelligence collection and dissemination, including the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) - the apex body for all matters concerning internal and external security. According to Notes on Demand for Grants (2025-26), Rs 182.75 crore has been allocated to NSCS in comparison to Rs 270.08 crore (revised estimate) last financial year. The budget of the Intelligence Bureau was also reduced by around Rs 100 crore. Last year, Rs 3,966 crore was allocated to the agency in the revised Budget but this year, the amount has been reduced to Rs 3,893 crore. मध्य प्रदेश के इंदौर जिले में मास्टर ऑफ बिजनेस एडमिनिस्ट्रेशन (एमबीए) की एक छात्रा का गला रेतकर उसकी हत्या का प्रयास करने के आरोप में 23 वर्षीय व्यक्ति को शुक्रवार को गिरफ्तार किया गया. पुलिस उपाधीक्षक (डीएसपी) उमाकांत चौधरी ने बताया कि यहां से करीब 40 किलोमीटर दूर सांवेर कस्बे में अमन शेख (23) ने बृहस्पतिवार दोपहर एमबीए की एक छात्रा के गले पर चाकू से हमला किया. उमाकांत चौधरी ने बताया कि छात्रा को एक निजी अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया गया, जहां इलाज के बाद उसकी हालत खतरे से बाहर है. शेख को छात्रा की हत्या का प्रयास करने के आरोप में गिरफ्तार किया गया है. डीएसपी ने बताया,‘‘युवती ने हमें बताया कि आरोपी और उसने एक ही महाविद्यालय में स्नातक की पढ़ाई की थी. आरोपी उसका पीछा करके उससे जबरन बात करने की कोशिश करता था. युवती ने जब आरोपी के साथ बात करने से इनकार कर दिया, तो उसने विवाद करते हुए युवती पर चाकू से हमला कर दिया.'' घायल छात्रा के परिजनों का आरोप है कि शेख उसे पिछले तीन साल से परेशान कर रहा था और मना किए जाने पर भी अपनी हरकतों से बाज नहीं आ रहा था. इस बीच, एमबीए छात्रा की हत्या के ...

A mob of around 80 people on Friday confronted a security team that went to destroy illegal opium poppy cultivation in Manipur's Kangpokpi district and damaged four vehicles, police said. Uttarakhand has become the first state in the country to implement UCC, but the Chief Minister of another hill state has ruled out a similar step. The implementation of Uniform Civil Code is neither practical nor appropriate, given the country's diverse cultural and tribal communities, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said today. He, however, acknowledged that certain aspects of civil laws could be made uniform while protecting the rights of indigenous communities. Pointing at Uttarakhand, which became the first state to implement the UCC while excluding tribal customs from its purview, Mr Sangma said in a country as diverse as India, a Uniform Civil Code is not viable.  His statement comes amid growing debates on the UCC, with Assam expressing interest in following Uttarakhand's lead in implementing the code. Adani Group on Tuesday committed to investing Rs 2.3 lakh crore over the next five years across power, cement, industrial parks, aluminium and city gas expansion in Odisha. According to a statement by the group, the investment commitment was made during Utkarsh Odisha 2025 - the state's investor meeting. Karan Adani, Managing Director of Adani Ports and SEZ Limited (APSEZ), met state Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and exchanged MoUs for investment in Odisha over the next five years, it added. "The Adani Group committed to invest Rs 2.3 lakh crore over the next five years across power, cement, industrial parks, aluminium, city Gas etc," the statement said. A 21-year-old nursing student was found hanging in a house in Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad district on Monday, police said. Officials said that no suicide note was found from the spot. Upset over his business partner's "betrayal", a 70-year-old man picked up his two children from their school, took them to his home, allegedly killed them there and hanged their bodies, according to police. The incident happened in Boranada here and the children's bodies were found on Sunday, two day after they were reported missing by their family.
