A woman was beaten up, her three-year-old son was forcibly taken away from her as she was thrown out of her house in Uttar Pradesh's Bhadohi allegedly for not paying dowry, police said on Saturday. Months after the incident that is alleged to have happened in October last year, a case was registered against the woman's husband, mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother-in-law and sister-in-law on Thursday, they said. Shamshin Rahbar (24), a resident of Gopiganj in Bhadohi district, married Mohammad Saif alias Golu from Kaushambi district in 2020. They have a young child named Ata Ahmed. She has alleged in her complaint that she faced various kinds of harassment to pay a dowry amount of Rs 5 lakh. Manipur's Meitei community began their five-day celebration of Yaoshang, or Holi as it is known in the state, with the burning of straw huts built at the Shri Govindaji temple complex and a few other areas. Yaoshang is one of the biggest festivals of Manipur's Meitei community. Due to the ethnic hostilities, the festival of colours has been restricted to religious and community sports activities associated with the carnival. A gathering of people marked the occasion in the Mantripukhri area, where festivities kicked off with traditional rituals and music. Cab drivers under the banner of the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers' Union have launched a campaign boycotting trips facilitated by cab aggregator companies to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on the city's outskirts, protesting against the "low fares" being charged. TGPWU founder-president Shaik Salauddin said on Tuesday that the campaign has been underway on a large scale since it was launched two days ago. He alleged that aggregator companies charge as little as Rs 300-Rs 400 for a trip from the city to the airport while claiming a 30 per cent commission. The state government issued an order in 2022 setting the fare for pre-paid cabs operating at the airport at Rs 21 per km, he said. There is a difference of about Rs 300-Rs 400 between the fares charged by aggregators and pre-paid taxis, he claimed. The low fares have significantly affected drivers' earnings, he added. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today backed the call for the removal of the tomb of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb from Khulabad in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday ordered a thorough and transparent investigation into the killing of three relatives of a family in Kathua district. The bodies of Varun Singh (15), his paternal uncle Yogesh Singh (32) and maternal uncle Darshan Singh (40) were found from the Ishu nullah in the remote Malhar area in the higher reaches of the district on Saturday.
