Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday alleged that the Congress' poll manifesto was more appropriate for elections in neighbouring Pakistan than for India. The Congress, on the other hand, said a turncoat like Mr Sarma would not be able to understand the secular and inclusive ethos of the grand old party, and asserted that its manifesto aims to safeguard the interests of all sections of the society. Mr Sarma condemned the poll promise document brought out by the opposition party, claiming that it was targeted at dividing the society to come to power. "This is politics of appeasement and we condemn it. उच्चतम न्यायालय ने शुक्रवार को कहा कि यह छत्तीसगढ़ में 2,000 करोड़ रुपये के कथित शराब घोटाले में भारतीय प्रशासनिक सेवा (आईएएस) के पूर्व अधिकारी अनिल टुटेजा और उनके बेटे यश के खिलाफ धन शोधन मामले को रद्द कर सकता है. न्यायालय ने यह भी कहा कि अपराध से धन अर्जित नहीं किया गया. न्यायमूर्ति अभय एस ओका और न्यायमूर्ति उज्जल भुइयां की पीठ ने प्रवर्तन निदेशालय (ईडी) की ओर से पेश हुए अतिरिक्त सॉलिसिटर जनरल एस वी राजू से कहा, ‘‘हमने ईसीआईआर (प्रवर्तन मामला सूची रिपोर्ट) और मामले में दर्ज प्राथमिकी को पढ़ा. हमने पाया कि कोई अपराध नहीं किया गया और अपराध से धन अर्जित नहीं किया गया, इसलिए कोई धन शोधन नहीं हुआ. हम इस शिकायत को रद्द करेंगे.'' राजू ने कहा कि जांच एजेंसी के पास पर्याप्त सामग्री है और यदि न्यायालय ईसीआईआर को रद्द करने को इच्छुक है तो ईडी को एक नयी शिकायत दर्ज करने और मामले को आगे बढ़ाने की छूट दी जाए. उन्होंने न्यायालय ने अनुरोध किया, ‘‘न्यायालय ने इस विषय में कई आदेश पारित किये हैं, जैसे कि आरोपी के खिलाफ कार्रवाई नहीं की जाए. इन आदेशों को निरस्त किया जाना चाहिए.'' पीठ ...

An eight-year-old boy sustained severe burn injuries after accidentally falling into a pot of boiling rice being prepared as part of the midday meal scheme at a school in Odisha's Kendrapara district on Thursday. The incident took place at the government-run Ananat Narayan Upper Primary School in Bahakandia village, where victim Aahwahan Nayak resides. A class-3 student, Aahwahan suffered burns on his back and was promptly taken to the community health centre in Marshaghai for initial treatment. He was later shifted to Kendrapara District Hospital for further medical care, where his condition is reported to be stable. The body of a 26-year-old woman was found stuffed in an almirah at a house in southwest Delhi's Dwarka area, with her father suspecting her live-in partner's role behind the murder, police said on Thursday. The matter came to light after the victim's father approached the police on Wednesday after he was unable to contact her for a few days. According to police, a PCR call was received at 10.40 pm on Wednesday wherein a caller said his daughter could have been killed, following which a team from Dabri police station rushed to the said house in Dwarka's Rajapuri area. "Upon entering the flat, the body of the woman was found in the almirah of a room. The crime scene was inspected by the crime team and FSL," said a senior police officer. Parampal Kaur Sidhu, the daughter-in-law of Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sikandar Singh Maluka and a bureaucrat of the Punjab cadre, has resigned from service amid speculation that she may join the BJP. Currently posted as the managing director of the Punjab State Industrial Corporation, Ms Sidhu, a 2011-batch IAS officer, was to retire in October this year. There is speculation that she may join the BJP and get the ticket to contest from Bathinda parliamentary seat, currently represented by Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal. In yet another setback for the Congress in Uttarakhand ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, the party's general secretary and Seva Dal's state chief Rajesh Rastogi resigned from all posts today, saying dynastic politics is "finishing" the party. Mr Rastogi, an advocate and a grassroots leader, lashed out at former Chief Minister Harish Rawat for "getting" a ticket for his son from the Haridwar seat. In his resignation letter to Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, party's state chief Karan Mahara, and the party's in-charge for the state, Kumari Selja, Mr Rastogi said the "growing dominance of dynastic politics is finishing the party".
