Himanta Sarma Says Congress Manifesto Is For Polls In Pak, Party Responds

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday alleged that the Congress' poll manifesto was more appropriate for elections in neighbouring Pakistan than for India.

The Congress, on the other hand, said a turncoat like Mr Sarma would not be able to understand the secular and inclusive ethos of the grand old party, and asserted that its manifesto aims to safeguard the interests of all sections of the society.

Mr Sarma condemned the poll promise document brought out by the opposition party, claiming that it was targeted at dividing the society to come to power.

"This is politics of appeasement and we condemn it. The manifesto feels like it is not for elections in Bharat but for Pakistan," Mr Sarma told reporters on the sidelines of an election rally in Jorhat constituency.

Mr Sarma maintained that no person in the country, either Hindu or Muslim, wants the revival of triple talaq or supports child marriage or polygamy.

"The mentality of the Congress is to divide the society and come to power," the BJP leader claimed.

The Congress released its manifesto, focusing on five 'pillars of justice' and 25 guarantees under those, on Friday.

Right to apprenticeship, a legal guarantee for MSP, passing a constitutional amendment to raise the 50 per cent cap on reservations for SCs, STs and OBCs, a nationwide caste census and scrapping of the Agnipath scheme are among the promises made by the Congress in its Lok Sabha polls manifesto.

Mr Sarma asserted that the BJP has taken the form of an 'andolan' and this movement is to make the country the 'vishwa guru' (world leader).

He also asserted that the saffron party and its allies would bag all 14 Lok Sabha in the state.

He said positive feedback has been received from the Dhubri constituency, regarding which Sarma had earlier been maintaining that the BJP-led alliance's candidate will not be victorious.

Reacting to his statement, Assam Congress spokesperson Bedabrata Bora claimed that a turncoat like Mr Sarma would not be able to understand the secular and inclusive ethos of the grand old party.

"Sarma had been in the Congress for several years but he could not understand the main ethos of the party. That is why he went to the BJP. Even after being in the BJP for some time now, he still tries to defame Congress to prove his loyalty to the saffron party," Mr Bora told the news agency PTI.

The Congress leader asserted that the party's manifesto aims to safeguard the interests of all sections and rubbished the allegations made by Sarma.

Video: Himanta Sarma's Dance Moves Major Draw At Poll Rallies In Assam

If his fiery speeches draw crowds to meetings, it's the 'dancing' skills of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma that literally get the public on their feet.

With electioneering heating up in this Northeastern state where polling for the 14 Lok Sabha seats is scheduled in the first three phases on April 19, 26 and May 7, the BJP's star campaigner is out with his dancing moves to attract voters.

As Mr Sarma campaigned across the Jorhat constituency on Saturday, he ended his meetings by dancing to the BJP's theme song 'Akou ebar Modi sorkar' (Modi's government, once more), inviting enthusiastic participation from the audience.

Be it at the end of the rally in Sivsagar or in Mariani, the CM sang and danced, while urging the public to join, who readily obliged and joined their leader from the stands.

Accompanied by clapping and occasional jumps with fists in the air, Mr Sarma's trademark moves added energy to his campaign.

In his speeches, Mr Sarma outlined the various welfare measures of the BJP-led governments both at the Centre and the state, and exhorted the public to vote for PM Modi for a third successive term.

Sharing a video of his lively campaign dance on X on Friday with the public joining him from the stands, he wrote: "We are #ModiKaParivaar. Of course, we sing and dance in our rallies." Mr Sarma's dance moves had garnered much attention during the 2019 parliamentary elections when he had swung along the tunes of 'Akou ebar Modi Sorkar' and other BJP campaign songs on the dais and during roadshows.

The BJP has nine MPs in the outgoing Lok Sabha from Assam, which has been its best show in the state so far, with Mr Sarma exuding confidence of winning at least 13 seats this time.

The BJP is contesting in 11 seats, leaving two for its ally Asom Gana Parishad and one for United People's Party Liberal.

छत्तीसगढ़ शराब घोटाला : कोर्ट पूर्व IAS अधिकारी और उनके बेटे के खिलाफ रद्द कर सकता है केस

उच्चतम न्यायालय ने शुक्रवार को कहा कि यह छत्तीसगढ़ में 2,000 करोड़ रुपये के कथित शराब घोटाले में भारतीय प्रशासनिक सेवा (आईएएस) के पूर्व अधिकारी अनिल टुटेजा और उनके बेटे यश के खिलाफ धन शोधन मामले को रद्द कर सकता है. न्यायालय ने यह भी कहा कि अपराध से धन अर्जित नहीं किया गया.

न्यायमूर्ति अभय एस ओका और न्यायमूर्ति उज्जल भुइयां की पीठ ने प्रवर्तन निदेशालय (ईडी) की ओर से पेश हुए अतिरिक्त सॉलिसिटर जनरल एस वी राजू से कहा, ‘‘हमने ईसीआईआर (प्रवर्तन मामला सूची रिपोर्ट) और मामले में दर्ज प्राथमिकी को पढ़ा. हमने पाया कि कोई अपराध नहीं किया गया और अपराध से धन अर्जित नहीं किया गया, इसलिए कोई धन शोधन नहीं हुआ. हम इस शिकायत को रद्द करेंगे.''

राजू ने कहा कि जांच एजेंसी के पास पर्याप्त सामग्री है और यदि न्यायालय ईसीआईआर को रद्द करने को इच्छुक है तो ईडी को एक नयी शिकायत दर्ज करने और मामले को आगे बढ़ाने की छूट दी जाए. उन्होंने न्यायालय ने अनुरोध किया, ‘‘न्यायालय ने इस विषय में कई आदेश पारित किये हैं, जैसे कि आरोपी के खिलाफ कार्रवाई नहीं की जाए. इन आदेशों को निरस्त किया जाना चाहिए.''

पीठ ने कहा कि यह मौजूदा शिकायत को रद्द करेगी और यह बयान दर्ज करेगी कि एजेंसी कानून के अनुसार एक नयी शिकायत दर्ज करना चाहती है. पिता-पुत्र की ओर से पेश हुए वरिष्ठ अधिवक्ता सिद्धार्थ अग्रवाल ने कहा कि मामले में अन्य सह-आरोपी हैं और उनके खिलाफ भी शिकायत रद्द की जानी चाहिए.

पीठ ने अधिवक्ता से कहा कि क्या मौजूदा शिकायत में नामजद, अन्य सह-आरोपियों को राहत दी जा सकती है. यदि नहीं, तो उन्हें अपने कानूनी उपाय करने होंगे.

अदालत ने जब राजू से यह सवाल किया कि क्या सह-आरोपी मौजूदा शिकायत में नामजद किये गए हैं, सरकार के विधि अधिकारी ने जवाब देने के लिए वक्त मांगा. इसके बाद, पीठ ने विषय की अगली सुनवाई आठ अप्रैल के लिए सूचीबद्ध कर दी.

पीएमएलए अदालत में दाखिल ईडी के आरोपपत्र में धन शोधन रोधी एजेंसी ने कहा कि पूर्व आईएएस अधिकारी अनिल टुटेजा छत्तीसगढ़ में शराब की अवैध आपूर्ति में शामिल गिरोह के ‘‘सरगना'' हैं. राज्य की तत्कालीन कांग्रेस सरकार ने शीर्ष अदालत में आरोप लगाया था कि जांच एजेंसी तत्कालीन मुख्यमंत्री भूपेश बघेल को कथित शराब घोटाले से जुड़े धन शोधन मामले में फंसाने की कोशिश कर रही है. उसने आरोप लगाया था कि राज्य के अधिकारियों को जांच एजेंसी परेशान कर रही है और उनसे अपनी संपत्तियों का विवरण देने को कह रही है.

Boy, 8, Suffers Burns After Falling Into Boiling Rice Pot In Odisha School

An eight-year-old boy sustained severe burn injuries after accidentally falling into a pot of boiling rice being prepared as part of the midday meal scheme at a school in Odisha's Kendrapara district on Thursday.

The incident took place at the government-run Ananat Narayan Upper Primary School in Bahakandia village, where victim Aahwahan Nayak resides.

A class-3 student, Aahwahan suffered burns on his back and was promptly taken to the community health centre in Marshaghai for initial treatment.

He was later shifted to Kendrapara District Hospital for further medical care, where his condition is reported to be stable.

Saroj Sahoo, inspector of Kendrapara Sadar police station, confirmed ongoing investigations into the incident.

District education officer Pradeep Kumar Nag said a show cause notice has been issued to the school's headmaster, and a team led by the block education officer has been tasked with conducting a thorough investigation and submitting a report.

सपा ने क्यों बदले यूपी के 9 लोकसभा उम्मीदवार? मेरठ में 2 बार बदले प्रत्याशी

उत्तर प्रदेश में एनडीए और इंडिया गठबंधन में लोकसभा चुनाव (Lok Sabha Elections) में अधिकतर जगहों पर सीधा मुकाबला होने की संभावना है. हालांकि बीएसपी के उम्मीदवार के मैदान में आ जाने के कारण कई जगहों पर मुकाबला त्रिकोणीय भी हो गया है. इस बीच समाजवादी पार्टी की तरफ से कई जगहों पर उम्मीदवारों के नाम में परिवर्तन किया जा रहा है. सबसे अजीबोगरीब मामला मेरठ में देखने को मिला जहां पार्टी की तरफ से दो बार अपने उम्मीदवार बदले गए. 

समाजवादी पार्टी ने सबसे पहले भानु प्रताप सिंह को मेरठ से चुनाव लड़ने के लिए उतारा था. लेकिन पार्टी के स्थानीय कैडर के विरोध के कारण सपा को उनसे टिकट वापस लेना पड़ा. इसके बाद मैदान में विधायक अतुल प्रधान आए, लेकिन उनका टिकट भी काट लिया गया और अंतिम टिकट सुनीता वर्मा को दे दिया गया. सुनीता वर्मा ने गुरुवार दोपहर को चुनाव के लिए नामांकन पत्र भरा. दिलचस्प बात यह है कि अतुल प्रधान ने वर्मा परिवार को पार्टी में लाने में अहम भूमिका निभाई. 

चुनाव से पहले कई राजनीतिक दल उम्मीदवारों को बदलते रहे हैं. सीट जीतने की संभावनाओं के आधार पर उम्मीदवारों को बदला जाता रहा है. मेरठ में उम्मीदवार को दूसरी बार बदले जाने को लेकर दलित मतों को कारण बताया जा रहा है. गौरतलब है कि मेरठ संसदीय क्षेत्र में दलित मतदाताओं की संख्या लगभग 4 लाख है. 

मेरठ ही नहीं कई अन्य जगहों पर भी विवाद
उम्मीदवारों को लेकर मेरठ के अलावा मुरादाबाद, रामपुर और बदांयू में भी सपा को मुश्किलों का सामना करना पड़ा है.  मुरादाबाद में समाजवादी पार्टी ने पहले एसटी हसन को उम्मीदवार बनाया था, लेकिन बाद में रुचि वीरा का नाम सामने आया. स्थानीय कैडर द्वारा विरोध प्रदर्शन किया गया. दोनों के पर्चा दाखिल करने से असमंजस की स्थिति बनी रही.  आख़िरकार रुचि वीरा की उम्मीदवारी पक्की हो गई.

रामपुर में भी सपा में टकराव
रामपुर की सीट को लेकर भी समाजवादी पार्टी में टकराव देखने को मिला था. रामपुर में आज़म खान का गढ़ रहा था. जेल में होने के बाद भी आजम खान का इस क्षेत्र में व्यापक प्रभाव रहा है. उम्मीदवार को लेकर आजम खान और अखिलेश यादव के समर्थक में टकराव की नौबत आ गयी थी. अंततः अखिलेश यादव के उम्मीदवार, असीम रज़ा ने नामांकन दाखिल किया. लेकिन यह विवाद पर्चा दाखिल करने के अंतिम दिन तक चलता रहा. 

 बदांयू में भी विवाद
 बदांयू में भी टिकट का मामला समाजवादी पार्टी में अब तक सेट नहीं हो पाया है. धर्मेंद्र यादव को पहले टिकट मिलने की संभावना थी बाद में यह टिकट उनके चाचा शिवपाल यादव को मिल गयी.  लेकिन शिवपाल यादव अपनी जगह पर अपने बेटे आदित्य को चुनाव में उतारना चाहते हैं. यहां का विवाद अभी तक सुलझ नहीं पाया है. 

इनके अलावा भी अखिलेश यादव की पार्टी ने बागपत, बिजनौर, गौतम बौद्ध नगर, मिसरिख और संबल सीटों के साथ-साथ मध्य प्रदेश के खजुराहो के लिए भी अपने उम्मीदवार बदल दिए हैं. संबल में बदलाव - एक सीट जो एसपी ने 2019 में जीती थी - जरूरी हो गई थी क्योंकि सांसद शफीकुर रहमान बर्क का 93 वर्ष की आयु में निधन हो गया था. 

63 सीटों पर चुनाव लड़ रही है समाजवादी पार्टी
समाजवादी पार्टी यूपी की 80 लोकसभा सीटों में से अधिकांश पर चुनाव लड़ रही है. उसे कांग्रेस के साथ समझौते के तहत 63 सीटें मिलीं है. कांग्रेस पार्टी 17 सीटों पर चुनाव लड़ेगी, जिसमें उसके पारिवारिक गढ़ अमेठी और रायबरेली भी शामिल हैं. यूपी में 2024 के लोकसभा चुनाव के सात चरणों में से प्रत्येक चरण में मतदान होगा.

Woman's Body Found In Almirah In Delhi, Live-In Partner Suspected: Cops

The body of a 26-year-old woman was found stuffed in an almirah at a house in southwest Delhi's Dwarka area, with her father suspecting her live-in partner's role behind the murder, police said on Thursday.

The matter came to light after the victim's father approached the police on Wednesday after he was unable to contact her for a few days.

According to police, a PCR call was received at 10.40 pm on Wednesday wherein a caller said his daughter could have been killed, following which a team from Dabri police station rushed to the said house in Dwarka's Rajapuri area.

"Upon entering the flat, the body of the woman was found in the almirah of a room. The crime scene was inspected by the crime team and FSL," said a senior police officer.

The victim's father who was present at the spot, alleged the woman was killed by her live-in partner Vipal Tailor, the police said.

Citing his last call with the woman, the complainant told the police that she had told him that her partner Vipal Tailor used to beat her up and she was afraid she could be murdered, they said.

He also told the police that his daughter had been living in the rented flat with Tailor for the past one and a half months, they added.

The police officer said the body has been transferred to DDU Hospital mortuary for autopsy.

"Efforts are underway to locate the accused, Vipal Tailor, who is a native of Surat in Gujarat," the officer said.

"Based on the statement of the complainant, a case under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the accused," he said, adding that police teams are also scanning CCTV cameras in the area to find out the crime sequence.

Akali Leader's Daughter-In-Law Resigns As Bureaucrat, May Join BJP

Parampal Kaur Sidhu, the daughter-in-law of Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sikandar Singh Maluka and a bureaucrat of the Punjab cadre, has resigned from service amid speculation that she may join the BJP.

Currently posted as the managing director of the Punjab State Industrial Corporation, Ms Sidhu, a 2011-batch IAS officer, was to retire in October this year.

There is speculation that she may join the BJP and get the ticket to contest from Bathinda parliamentary seat, currently represented by Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal.

Sikandar Singh Maluka is a senior Akali leader and was the education minister in the Akali government till 2017.

Punjab will vote on June 1.

Uttarakhand Congress Official Quits Over Ticket To Harish Rawat's Son

In yet another setback for the Congress in Uttarakhand ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, the party's general secretary and Seva Dal's state chief Rajesh Rastogi resigned from all posts today, saying dynastic politics is "finishing" the party.

Mr Rastogi, an advocate and a grassroots leader, lashed out at former Chief Minister Harish Rawat for "getting" a ticket for his son from the Haridwar seat.

In his resignation letter to Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, party's state chief Karan Mahara, and the party's in-charge for the state, Kumari Selja, Mr Rastogi said the "growing dominance of dynastic politics is finishing the party".

Accusing the Congress leaders of the state of promoting factionalism and selling tickets, he said if these are not controlled then Congress will not be able to sit even in the opposition.

If an honest leader with a clean image like Pritam Singh had been declared the chief ministerial face in the 2017 assembly elections, Congress would have been in power in the state today, he claimed.

"Congress may have cancelled my ticket from the Laksar assembly constituency in 2022. But I still stood firmly with the party," he said.

Harish Rawat got a ticket for his son from Haridwar while the requests of senior leaders who wanted to contest from there were ignored, he alleged.

"Many other big Congress leaders, upset with Harish Rawat's promotion of dynastic politics in Haridwar seat, may resign from the party within a day or two," he claimed.

Uttarakhand Congress has seen an exodus in recent months with sitting legislator from Badrinath Rajendra Singh Bhandari and many former MLAs leaving the party.

India, Thailand Discuss Measures To Strengthen Navy-to-Navy Cooperation

Chief of Naval Staff Admiral R Hari Kumar held a meeting with his visiting Thai counterpart Admiral Adoong Paan-Iam on Monday and discussed measures to further strengthen Navy-to-Navy cooperation.

The two sides also held discussions on the present situation in the Indian Ocean region, with emphasis on the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden and the need for collaborative efforts towards ensuring peace, stability and maritime security.

Admiral Adoong Pan-Iam, Commander-in-Chief of Royal Thai Navy, is on an official visit to India from April 1-3.

In a post on X, Indian Navy Spokesperson stated, "Adm Adoong Pan-Iam, Commander-in-Chief, #RoyalThaiNavy on an official visit to #India interacted with Adm R Hari Kumar #CNS at South Block, New Delhi. Both Principals discussed measures to further strengthen Navy to Navy cooperation incl Ops, Trg & related issues. The present situation in the #IOR with emphasis on Red Sea & Gulf of Aden, and the need for collaborative efforts towards ensuring peace, stability & #maritimesecurity was also deliberated."

According to the Ministry of Defence press release, discussions between Admiral R Hari Kumar and Admiral Adoong Pan-Iam centred around issues of mutual cooperation in the maritime domain, training exchange programmes and information sharing.

Earlier in the day, Admiral Adoong Pan-Iam laid a ceremonial wreath at the National War Memorial. He was welcomed by the customary Guard of Honour presented by the Indian Navy at the South Block.

His visit to India is a testimony of strong "bilateral relations and lasting friendship" between the navies of India and Thailand, the MEA said.

He is also scheduled to call on Chief of the Defence Staff, Chief of the Air Staff, Defence Secretary, and the National Maritime Security Co-ordinator.

"To further deepen Defence Cooperation between both countries, Adm Adoong Pan-Iam is scheduled to meet officials of the Indian Defence Industries and the Department of Defence Production at New Delhi," the MEA release said.

"Following this, an interactive session with Indian Navy Officials from the Warship Design Bureau is also planned to explore current trends in ship building and identify future opportunities, including scope of ship maintenance and repairs in India," it added.

The navies of India and Thailand have been conducting regular Coordinated Patrols on biannual basis since 2005, and the maiden IN-RTN bilateral Exercise, viz, Ex- Ayutthaya was held in December 23 last year.

Recently, one Royal Thai Navy ship, HTMS Prachup Kheri Khan, participated in MILAN 24, held in February 2024 in Visakhapatnam. The two navies are also active members of the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) and the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA).

लोकसभा चुनाव (Lok Sabha Elections 2024) को लेकर देश भर में जारी तैयारी के बीच पंजाब के किसानों का आंदोलन जारी है. , पंजाब के किसान लगभग दो महीने से हरियाणा के साथ लगती राज्य की सीमा पर डेरा डाले हुए हैं. किसान पहले दिल्ली मार्च की तैयारी कर रहे थे हालांकि बाद में सरकार के साथ कई दौर की बातचीत के बाद उन्होंने अपने मार्च को स्थगित कर दिया.  इन किसानों ने अपनी फसलों के लिए न्यूनतम समर्थन मूल्य (MSP) की कानूनी गारंटी और कृषि ऋण माफी आदि की मांगों को लेकर 13 फरवरी को दिल्ली तक मार्च शुरू किया, लेकिन सुरक्षा कर्मियों ने उन्हें हरियाणा सीमा पर रोक दिया. किसान तब से पंजाब और हरियाणा के बीच शंभू और खनौरी बॉर्डर पर डेरा डाले हुए हैं.

ऑल इंडिया किसान सभा के सदस्य कृष्ण प्रसाद ने कहा कि किसान भारतीय जनता पार्टी (BJP) सरकार और उसकी नीतियों का विरोध करने के लिए प्रतिबद्ध हैं.

क्या तमिलनाडु के किसानों वाला मॉडल अपनाएंगे पंजाब के किसान?
करीब तीन दशक पहले सरकारी नीतियों से नाखुश तमिलनाडु के एक हजार से अधिक किसानों ने अपनी शिकायतों की ओर ध्यान आकर्षित करने के लिए लोकसभा चुनाव में एक ही निर्वाचन क्षेत्र से नामांकन दाखिल किया था. यही वह समय था जब निर्वाचन आयोग (EC) को इरोड जिले के मोदाकुरिची से अप्रत्याशित 1,033 उम्मीदवारों को समायोजित करने के लिए पारंपरिक 'मतपत्र' के बजाय 'मतपत्र पुस्तिका' जारी करनी पड़ी.

ऑल इंडिया किसान सभा के सदस्य कृष्ण प्रसाद ने ‘पीटीआई-भाषा' से कहा, ''हालांकि हमारा वह (चुनावी) रास्ता अपनाने की योजना नहीं है. दिल्ली में हुई महापंचायत में हमने भाजपा का विरोध करने और उसकी नीतियों को उजागर करने के अपने रुख की घोषणा की थी. हम इस मुद्दे पर एकजुट हैं.''

राष्ट्रीय किसान महासंघ  के सदस्य अभिमन्यु कोहाड़ ने कहा, ''हम 13 फरवरी से सीमाओं पर बैठे हैं और हमने खुद को चुनावी राजनीति से दूर कर लिया है. हमारा मानना है कि जब विपक्ष में होते हैं तो सभी दल किसानों का समर्थन करते हैं लेकिन जब सत्ता में होते हैं तो वे सभी कॉर्पोरेट समर्थक और किसान विरोधी बन जाते हैं.” 

14 मार्च को दिल्ली में किसानों ने की थी महापंचायत 
पुलिस ने किसानों को कुछ शर्तों के साथ ही 'किसान मजदूर महापंचायत' आयोजित करने की अनुमति दी थी. जिसमें कहा गया था कि वह ट्रैक्टर ट्रॉली नहीं लाएंगे और न ही कोई मार्च निकालेंगे और 5,000 से अधिक प्रदर्शनकारी एक जगह इकट्ठा भी नहीं हो सकेंगे. इस महापंचायत का मकसद "सरकार की नीतियों के खिलाफ लड़ाई को तेज करना", एमएसपी जैसे मुद्दों पर ध्यान केंद्रित करना और स्वामीनाथन आयोग की सिफारिशों को लागू करवाना था."

मोदाकुरिची में किसानों के अनोखे विरोध के कारण EC को हुई थी परेशानी
गौरतलब है कि तमिलनाडु के किसानों के अनोखे विरोध के कारण मोदाकुरिची में चुनाव करवाने में चुनाव आयोग को काफी परेशानी का सामना करना पड़ा था. मोदाकुरिची के 1,033 किसानों ने 1996 के लोकसभा चुनाव के लिए नामांकन दाखिल किया था, तो निर्वाचन आयोग को 'अखबारों की तरह मतपत्र' छापने पड़े थे और चार फुट से अधिक ऊंची मतपेटियां रखनी पड़ी थी. उम्मीदवारों की लंबी सूची को समायोजित करने के लिए मतदान के घंटे भी बढ़ाए गए थे. उस चुनाव में द्रविड़ मुन्नेत्र कषगम (द्रमुक) की सुब्बुलक्ष्मी जगदीशन अन्नाद्रमुक के आर एन किट्टूसामी को हराकर विजयी हुई थीं.

जगदीशन, किट्टुसामी और एक निर्दलीय को छोड़कर सभी उम्मीदवारों की जमानत जब्त हो गई. 88 उम्मीदवारों को कोई वोट नहीं मिला, वहीं 158 को केवल एक-एक वोट मिला. वर्ष 1996 के आम चुनाव में सबसे अधिक 13,000 उम्मीदवार थे. इसके बाद निर्वाचन आयोग ने जमानत राशि 500 रुपये से बढ़ाकर 10,000 रुपये कर दी. इससे 1998 के लोकसभा चुनावों में उम्मीदवारों की संख्या प्रति सीट 8.75 तक लाने में मदद मिली.
