As the caste census started in Bihar on Saturday, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said the government aims to conduct the census properly so that there isn't any discrepancy. Talking to reporters here in Hajipur, Nitish Kumar said "We have spoken with all the MLAs and concerned officers regarding the matter. Our aim is to understand, what has happened and what more needs to be done. So far the caste census has been successfully done in three places." He further said that there are several castes and sub-castes, so the census has to be carried out properly. "We have to do it properly. As we know, there are several castes, and many sub-castes run under them. So, we have to ensure that no discrepancies remain, and the census is carried out properly. The much-awaited expansion of the Himachal Pradesh Cabinet will take place on Sunday, according to Raj Bhavan sources, reported the Press Trust of India. The swearing-in ceremony of the new ministers would take place at the Raj Bhavan here on January 8 at 10 am, the sources said on Saturday. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu earlier in the day said he has handed over the list of probables for induction in his ministry to the Congress high command for approval. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Friday Congress leader Rahul Gandhi would be invited for a 'darshan' at the upcoming Ram temple in Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh. Mr Fadnavis, a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, made the comments a day after Union Home Minister Amit Shah attacked the Congress MP and announced the shrine would be ready by January 1 next year. Former media executive Indrani Mukerjea, the prime accused in the murder of her daughter Sheena Bora, on Friday urged a special CBI court to procure CCTV footage of the Guwahati Airport, saying two lawyers had "spotted" a woman resembling Bora this week. Mukerjea (51), currently out on bail, has made the request to the court in a petition which is supported by affidavits of the lawyers who claimed to have come across a woman looking like Bora on Thursday morning. The court has directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to file its response to Mukerjea's plea. Bora (24) was allegedly strangled to death in a moving car by Mukerjea, her then-driver Shyamvar Rai and former husband Sanjeev Khanna in April 2012, apparently over a monetary dispute, according to the CBI. Aiming to consolidate his party's position among the Other Backward Classes ahead of the Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, senior Congress leader and former chief minister Kamal Nath said on Thursday his party would amend the Constitution for the benefit of the OBC community if it returns to power at the Centre. The Madhya Pradesh Congress president accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government of cheating the OBCs in the state, where polls are due by the end of 2023. "I promise that whenever our government comes to power at the Centre, it will amend the Constitution to extend the benefit of reservation to the OBC community," Kamal Nath said at an OBC community rally in Satna town. A two-year-old tiger and a hyena have been found dead in the Panna Tiger Reserve of Madhya Pradesh in the last couple of days with forest department officials suspecting the animals got trapped in 'live' wire fences set up to keep wild boars at bay. The carcasses of the big cat and the hyena were spotted in the intervening night of January 3-4 in the Kishangarh area of the tiger reserve, a forest department official said on Wednesday. Officials suspect that the tiger and the hyena died of electrocution after getting caught in a trap lined with wires carrying an electric current to kill wild boars. A case has been registered under the Wildlife Protection Act and a search is on to trace those who had laid the trap, the official said. After mandatory post-mortems, the official said, the carcasses were cremated in the presence of National Tiger Conservation Authority representatives.
