A woman was allegedly duped of around Rs 7 lakh by a fraudster posing as a courier company executive on the pretext of rejecting an international parcel carrying narcotics, police said on Saturday. The victim, Prachi Dhoke, in her complaint said that she received a call from a person posing as a courier company's customer service executive. He told her that an international parcel, in her name, containing two passports, five ATM cards, 300g weed and a laptop has been rejected, police said citing the complaint. When Prachi Dhoke told the person that the parcel was not sent by her, the caller urged her to file a complaint with the police as her Aadhaar card has been misused, they said. Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on Saturday called the basic structure doctrine a North Star that guides and gives certain direction to the interpreters and implementers of the Constitution when the path ahead is convoluted. Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud on Saturday indicated the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in giving translated copies of judgements in all Indian languages as he underlined the importance of technology in removing the information barrier. In September 2022, the apex court, under the leadership of CJI Chandrachud, started to live-stream hearings of its Constitution bench. CJI Chandrachud was speaking at an event organised by the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa here. He underlined the benefit of live-streaming and said teachers of law and students can watch and discuss live issues before the court. The search for the lone missing person in the Nepal plane crash intensified on Friday, Nepal Army officials said, as the postmortem of the remaining victims continued here at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital. A Yeti Airlines aircraft with 72 people on board, including five Indians, plunged into a river gorge in the resort city of Pokhara on January 15. The five Indians, all from Uttar Pradesh, have been identified as Abhisekh Kushwaha, 25, Bishal Sharma, 22, Anil Kumar Rajbhar, 27, Sonu Jaiswal, 35, and Sanjaya Jaiswal. A British Sikh Army officer and physiotherapist has set a new world record for the longest solo, unsupported, and unassisted polar expedition by a woman. A 14-year-old girl studying in Class 8 in Gujarat's Rajkot city died after suddenly collapsing in her school, with her family members claiming that she died due to cold weather conditions and added that the school authorities should have allowed students to use warm clothes of their choice instead of just uniform sweaters. A migrant workers charity based in Singapore on Tuesday suspended a top Indian-origin employee following allegations of misappropriation of funds. In a statement, the Humanitarian Organisation for Migration Economics (HOME) said its executive director Deshi Gill was suspended until an internal inquiry, according to a Channel News Asia report. "After preliminary investigations, we believe there is a basis for suspected misconduct," said HOME, which handles migrant workers employed in labour-intensive industries, including those from India. HOME said it has notified the relevant authorities of the development. "HOME's board and staff will provide all necessary information as part of any investigations that will be carried out," it said. Bars and clubs in Rajasthan will have to shut by midnight, announced Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, adding that his government will also urge the centre to bring a law on social security. The Chief Minister contended that bars and clubs run till late night and are mushrooming in every lane and bylane. "These bars and clubs run till late, sometimes upto 3 or 4 am. They have mushroomed in very lane and bylane. We will see later how to regulate them. For now, we have decided that these bars should shut latest by 11:30 pm or 12 midnight, so that people can go home and be with their families," said Mr Gehlot. Mumbai witnessed a decline in casualties due to road accidents by 30 per cent in 2022 compared to the previous year thanks to the awareness campaigns conducted by the traffic police, a senior official said on Monday. At least 268 people were killed in 257 road accidents in the city last year, while 387 people lost their lives in 376 accidents in 2021, joint commissioner of police (Traffic) Pravin Padwal said. It is a good sign that in 2022 the traffic police recorded 30 per cent less deaths in road accidents compared to 2021, he said. The number of fatal accidents has also dropped and the decline can be attributed to the frequent awareness programmes and campaigns conducted by the traffic police, the official said during the road safety week, which will end on January 17. A man arrested along with three others in a tiger poaching case allegedly tried to escape from custody after assaulting forest department officials. The four were held after a tiger was found dead in Paoni buffer area of Pench Reserve on January 12, an official said on Monday. "The four were remanded in the custody of the forest department till January 17 by a Ramtek court. However, one of the accused tried to escape after assaulting staffers on Sunday. Range Forest Officer Jayesh Tayde lodged a complaint against him in Deolapar police station," a release from Pench Tiger Reserve Deputy Director Prabhunath Shukla said. He has been remanded in police custody in connection with the complaint by Tayde, it said. A nine-year-old girl was allegedly raped by two minor boys, who also made a video of the act and threatened to make it viral on social media if she told anyone about it, police said. Station House Officer (SHO) of Highway Police Station Chhote Lal said on the basis of the complaint lodged by the relatives of the victim, an FIR has been registered and the girl has been sent for a medical examination. An elderly woman died after being beaten up by her grandson and daughter-in-law over a property dispute in UP, police said on Sunday. The incident happened in Hariharpur village under Unj police station limits on Saturday night, they said. According to police, Abhiraji Devi (70) lived with her two sons Girija Shankar Pal and Jata Shankar Pal. Girija's wife Phula Devi often fought with Abhiraji over the partition of the house but the elderly woman was against it. Inspector Chhotak Yadav, in charge of Unj police station said on Saturday night, Phula and her son Amit thrashed Abhiraj and she died of injuries. The body has been sent for post-mortem.
