Delhi Metro commuters landing in Uttar Pradesh's Noida with sealed liquor bottles may land in trouble, cautioned excise officials here on Saturday. The word of caution comes a day after the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced permitting commuters to carry up to two sealed bottles of liquor on its network.  Besides Delhi, DMRC's metro rail network expands to nearby cities like Gurgaon and Faridabad in Haryana, and Noida and Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh.  In Uttar Pradesh, the excise rules ban the import of liquor from outside the state, citing loss to the state government's revenue.   Officials said the current rule permits import of only one unsealed bottle from adjoining Delhi or Haryana, whether by metro or road.  "Although the Delhi Metro has allowed commuters to carry two sealed bottles of liquor, but rules of the Uttar Pradesh Excise Department will apply in UP's territories, irrespective of any changes in Delhi," Noida District Excise Office...

Senior BJP leader and head of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice, Sushil Modi on Friday said the panel will seek the views of all stakeholders on the issue of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in its meeting on July 3. Talking to reporters here on Friday, Mr Modi said that the meeting of the committee is non-political as the panel has members from all political parties. "We will discuss the Law Commission's report on the UCC on July 3. If required, we will call another meeting to discuss the matter further. The committee is completely neutral," he said. Two persons died and five others suffered burn injuries, with two of them sustaining severe injuries, following an explosion on Friday at Sahiti Pharma company, located in Atchutapuram of Anakapalli district, police said. Two persons who had sustained 90 per cent chemical burns in the blast succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at KGH Hospital in Visakhapatnam. Four others are also being treated there, including two for severe burns, police said. One other person is admitted in Star Zen Hospital in Atchutapuram itself. There were 35 people in the plant when the explosion occurred and most of them escaped unhurt, a statement from the state government said. According to the preliminary report, the blast took place while loading solvents into the solvent recovery plant of the pharma company in the Atchutapuram special economic zone (SEZ) around 11.45 AM, police said. Leading cement manufacturer Shree Cement, being surveyed by income tax authorities, has dismissed allegations that the company has been found to have carried out large-scale tax evasion. The company has issued a statement saying it has collaborated with and provided all support to tax authorities. It also dismissed media reports about the quantum of tax evasion allegedly found by the income tax department after going through their records. The company has been facing searches at its factories in Beawar, Raas and Jaipur. "We also would like to reiterate our strong record on corporate governance and playing our role as a responsible corporate citizen. Union Home Minister and BJP leader Amit Shah will be arriving in the politically crucial state of Bihar and addressing a mega-rally at Lakhisarai in Munger Lok Sabha constituency, party officials said. RK Arora, the promoter of real estate group Supertech, has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in an alleged money laundering case, sources said. He is likely to be produced before a special court on Wednesday, and the central agency will seek his custody. RK Arora was arrested under the PMLA (Prevention of money laundering) Act after three rounds of questioning. There are more than 20 FIRs (First Information Reports) against him in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana based on complaints filed by buyers. The buyers had alleged that the company and its directors indulged in "criminal conspiracy" to cheat people by collecting funds from prospective buyers as an advance against booked flats in their real estate projects. An 18-year-old medical aspirant from Udaipur allegedly died by suicide in his hostel room in Vigyan Nagar Police Station area here on Tuesday morning, police said. The teenager, preparing for National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), allegedly hanged himself sometime in the intervening nights of Monday and Tuesday, they said. However, no suicide note was recovered from the hostel room, police added. This is the 13th case of suspected suicide by a coaching student in Kota this year. In 2022, at least 15 cases of suicide by coaching students were registered in Kota. The dead boy was identified as Mehul Vaishnav (18), a resident of Salumbar in Udaipur district, had been preparing for NEET in a coaching institute in Kota for the past two months. India on Monday summoned a senior diplomat of the Pakistan High Commission and lodged a strong protest over the recent incidents of attacks on Sikh community members in that country, sources said. The diplomat has been conveyed that Pakistan should ensure the safety and security of its minorities who live in "constant fear of religious persecution", the sources said. Four incidents of attacks on Sikh community members have taken place between April and June and India has taken serious note of these incidents, they said. "India has demanded that Pakistani authorities investigate these violent attacks on Sikh community with sincerity, and share the investigation reports," said a source. The Patna-Ranchi Vande Bharat Express on Sunday successfully completed the third trial run, an official said. The commercial operation of the semi-high-speed train will start on June 28, the official said. Birendra Kumar, Chief Public Relation Officer (CPRO) of East Central Railway (ECR), Hajipur zone, said that the final and third trial run of the Express with eight coaches was done successfully from Patna to Ranchi. "It is now fit for inauguration on June 27 and commercial operation from June 28," Kumar said. The train, which started from Patna junction around 7 am, reached Ranchi around 12.50 pm. It left for the Bihar capital in the afternoon. The first successful trial run was conducted from Patna to Ranchi and back on June 12, while the second trial run was held on June 18.
