Congress's Ex-Servicemen Department Chief Ved Prakash Dies. He Was 85

National chairman of the Congress' ex-servicemen department Major (retd) Ved Prakash passed away on Saturday. He was 85. Mr Prakash, a regular attendee at the party's press conferences at the All India Congress Committee headquarters, was known for being a staunch Congress loyalist.

His son Vipul Prakash said, "My father suddenly collapsed at the Congress headquarters at around one o'clock this afternoon and suffered a head injury. He was taken to the hospital but he had passed away." 

He said Ved Prakash turned 85 on Friday.

"My father's heart used to beat for the Congress and he was so attached to the party that even at this age, he used to visit the Congress headquarters every day," Vipul Prakash said.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said, "I am deeply pained by the demise of Major Ved Prakash ji, who was associated with the Congress party for decades and played an important role in the ex-servicemen department." 

After serving the nation as a disciplined soldier, he devoted his life to building an organisation of ex-servicemen. He played key roles in the past, including running the war room in the AICC and being in-charge of the northeastern states, Mr Kharge said.

He had a deep understanding of Jammu and Kashmir and defence matters, the Congress chief said.

"Our heartfelt tribute to him and our deepest condolences to his family," Mr Kharge said.

Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi said Ved Prakash was an important member of the Congress family and the news of his demise is saddening.

"Always devoted to the country, Major Sahab's death is an irreparable loss to the Congress family. I express my deepest condolences to his loved ones," Mr Gandhi said in a tweet in Hindi.

In a tweet in Hindi, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said, "Received the sad news of the demise of Major Ved Prakash ji, who was dedicated to the ideology of the Indian National Congress and was the head of the ex-servicemen department.

"Major Ved Prakash ji dedicated his whole life to the service of the country. His demise has caused an irreparable loss to the Congress family," Priyanka Gandhi said, praying for the departed soul.

Congress general secretary organisation KC Venugopal said, "Saddened to hear about the demise of Maj. Ved Prakash, Chairman, AICC Ex-Servicemen Department. He was a loyal soldier and a dedicated party worker." 

"My sincere condolences to his family in this time of grief. Om Shanti," Mr Venugopal said on Twitter.

इस वीडियो को इंस्टाग्राम पर अम्बुज पटेल नाम के अकाउंट से शेयर किया गया है. वीडियो में एक बुजुर्ग फिल्म 'दिल है बेताब' का 'क्या तुम्हे पता है ए गुलशन' गाना गाता नजर आ रहा है. बुजुर्ग जिस खूबसूरती और फील के साथ इस गाने को गाते हैं, उसे देख आप भी फैन बन जाएंगे. एक ट्रेंड सिंगर की तरह सुर और तान छेड़ते इस शख्स की आवाज बेहद खूबसूरत सुनाई देती है. इनके साथ एक महिला भी इस गाने को गाती दिखती है.

इंस्टाग्राम पर इस वीडियो को साढ़े चार लाख के करीब लाइक्स मिल गए हैं और वीडियो तेजी से वायरल हो रहा है. वीडियो पर कमेंट करते हुए ढेरों लोग इस बुजुर्ग की तारीफ कर रहे हैं. एक यूजर ने लिखा, जितना भी सुनो, कम लगता है. वहीं दूसरे ने लिखा, बाबा ने कमाल कर दिया. वहीं तीसरे ने लिखा, आपकी तो मोहम्मद रफी जैसी आवाज है. वहीं एक अन्य ने लिखा, दादाजी ने जवानी में लगाईं होगी आग.

Video: ओडिशा ट्रेन दुर्घटना को लेकर ममता बनर्जी और अश्विनी वैष्णव के बीच असहमति सामने आई

ओडिशा रेल दुर्घटना में मरने वालों की संख्या को लेकर केंद्रीय रेल मंत्री अश्विनी वैष्णव और पश्चिम बंगाल की मुख्यमंत्री ममता बनर्जी की बीच असहमति की बात कैमरे में कैद हो गई. घटनास्थल पर वैष्णव उस समय ममता बनर्जी के साथ खड़े थे जब वे मीडिया से बातचीत कर रही थीं. उन्होंने मृतकों की सही संख्या बताने की बात कही और कहा कि मौतें 500 से अधिक हो सकती हैं. 

तब जब मौके पर तीन बोगियों में बचाव कार्य पूरा नहीं हुआ था, ममता बनर्जी ने कहा, "मैंने सुना है कि यह (मौतों का आंकड़ा) 500 हो सकता है."  वैष्णव ने कहा कि बचाव कार्य पूरा कर लिया गया है.

ममता ने पूछा कि बचाव कार्य पूरा होने के बाद मरने वालों की संख्या क्या है. वैष्णव ने जवाब दिया कि दुर्घटना में 238 लोगों की मौत हुईं. इस हादसे में दो यात्री ट्रेनें और एक मालगाड़ी शामिल है. उन्होंने कहा कि यह आंकड़ा राज्य सरकार का आंकड़ा है.

हालांकि ममता बनर्जी ने जोर देकर कहा कि केंद्रीय मंत्री की ओर से दी गई मौतों की संख्या शुक्रवार तक की है. उन्होंने कहा, "यह कल की बात है. हमारे पास कल से जानकारी है कि यह 238 है...यह क्या मुद्दा है, हम इस पर बात कर सकते हैं."

भारतीय रेलवे के अनुसार, ओडिशा ट्रेन त्रासदी में मरने वालों की संख्या 288 है, जबकि 803 लोग घायल हैं और इनमें 56 गंभीर रूप से घायल हुए हैं.

तृणमूल कांग्रेस नेता ममता बनर्जी पूर्व में रेल मंत्री रह चुकी हैं. उन्होंने कहा कि वे दुर्घटना से दुखी और स्तब्ध हैं और इसकी उचित जांच की जानी चाहिए. दुर्घटना में शामिल दो यात्री ट्रेनें बंगाल के स्टेशनों से जुड़ी हैं.

ममता बनर्जी ने कहा कि रेलवे के साथ "विशेष व्यवहार" किया जाना चाहिए. उन्होंने कहा कि रेलवे का एक अलग बजट था. उन्होंने आरोप लगाया कि इसमें "समन्वय की कमी" थी. उन्होंने कहा, "रेलवे हमारे बच्चे की तरह है. मैं भी रेलवे परिवार की सदस्य हूं." उन्होंने कहा कि वे मंत्री को सुझाव देने के लिए तैयार हैं.

बाद में अश्विनी वैष्णव ने ममता बनर्जी के साथ असहमति को कम करने की कोशिश करते हुए कहा कि यह राजनीति करने का समय नहीं है, बल्कि यह देखना है कि बहाली जल्दी हो. मौतों की संख्या पर ममता बनर्जी से असहमत होने के बारे में पूछे जाने पर उन्होंने कहा, "हम पूरी पारदर्शिता चाहते हैं, यह राजनीति करने का समय नहीं है, यह सुनिश्चित करने पर ध्यान केंद्रित करने का समय है कि जल्द से जल्द बहाली हो."

ममता बनर्जी शनिवार को बालासोर पहुंचीं. उन्होंने इस घटना को ''21वीं सदी की सबसे बड़ी रेल दुर्घटना'' करार दिया.

ममता बनर्जी ने कहा, "कोरोमंडल सबसे अच्छी एक्सप्रेस ट्रेनों में से एक है. मैं तीन बार रेल मंत्री रह चुकी हूं. मैंने जो देखा, उससे लगता है कि यह 21वीं सदी की सबसे बड़ी रेल दुर्घटना है. ऐसे मामलों को रेलवे के सुरक्षा आयोग को सौंप दिया जाता है और वे जांच करते हैं और फिर रिपोर्ट देते हैं. जहां तक मुझे पता है, ट्रेन में एंटी कोलीशन डिवाइस नहीं थी. अगर ट्रेन में डिवाइस होती तो ऐसा नहीं होता. मृतकों को वापस नहीं लाया जा सकता लेकिन अब हमारा काम रेस्क्यू ऑपरेशन और सामान्य स्थिति को बहाला करना है.“ 

घटना को लेकर प्रारंभिक रिपोर्ट में कहा गया है कि इस दुर्घटना में तीन ट्रेनें शामिल हैं. बेंगलुरु-हावड़ा सुपरफास्ट एक्सप्रेस, कोरोमंडल एक्सप्रेस और एक मालगाड़ी बालासोर जिले के बहानागा बाज़ार स्टेशन पर टकराईं जो कि तीन अलग-अलग पटरियों पर थीं. इसमें कहा गया है कि शुक्रवार की शाम को हुए हादसे में दोनों  यात्री ट्रेनों के 17 डिब्बे पटरी से उतर गए और बुरी तरह क्षतिग्रस्त हो गए.

Within Seconds We Saw So Many Dead, Injured: Odisha Train Tragedy Survivor

A passenger, who was on board the Coromandel Express that was involved in a horrific accident in Odisha's Balasore on Friday recalls the moment and said that such a situation brings out the scariest part of you.

Speaking to ANI about the incident, the survivor named Anubhav Das, a resident of Cuttack said that he is a PhD student and was travelling back to Cuttack from Kolkata and was present in the last coach of the train due to which he was not impacted by the derailment.

He informed that at the time of the incident, the speed of Coromandel Express was about 110-115 kmph, it was moving smoothly but suddenly the accident occurred.

Recalling the nervous minutes leading up to the derailment of coaches, the survivor said, "Within a span of 30-40 seconds we see so many people injured, dead and cries of help everywhere. Such a situation brings out the scariest part of you."

He also requested the authorities to have a detailed inquiry of the incident and said that if there is any work of miscreants behind the incident then that has to be found out.

"If there is any work of miscreants behind the incident that claimed more than 250 lives then that has to be found out," he said.

Meanwhile, the death toll from a three-train crash in Odisha's Balasore has climbed to 288, Indian Railways said on Saturday.

"As of 2 pm today, the death toll in the Odisha train crash has risen to 288 while 747 people have been injured along with 56 grievously injured," Indian Railways said in a statement.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached the train crash site in Odisha's Balasore. He was accompanied by Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The three-way accident involved Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, the Coromandel Express and the goods train on three separate tracks at Bahanaga Bazar Station in Odisha's Balasore district. 

According to the Odisha Government's Special Relief Commissioner's office 17 coaches of the two trains had derailed and were severely damaged.

ओडिशा के बालासोर में शुक्रवार शाम को कोरोमंडल एक्सप्रेस (Coromandel Express Accident ) हादसे का शिकार हो गई. जानकारी के मुताबिक, मालगाड़ी से टकराने के बाद ट्रेन की 15 बोगियां पटरी से उतर गई. ट्रेन का इंजन मालगाड़ी पर चढ़ गया. हावड़ा से चेन्नई जा रही थी. इस हादसे में अब तक 300 से ज्यादा यात्रियों के घायल होने की खबर है. जबकि 30 यात्रियों की मौत की भी सूचना आ रही है. राहत और बचाव का काम चल रहा है. वहीं, बालासोर के पास ही बेंगलुरु हावड़ा सुपरफास्ट की कुछ बोगियां पटरी से उतर गईं. हालांकि, अभी तक इस हादसे में घायलों की संख्या के बारे में जानकारी नहीं मिली है. 

कोरोमंडल एक्सप्रेस हादसे पर राष्ट्रपति द्रौपदी मुर्मू, प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी, गृहमंत्री अमित शाह समेत कई केंद्रीय मंत्रियों और मुख्यमंत्रियों ने शोक जाहिर किया है.

ओडिशा के मुख्यमंत्री नवीन पटनायक ने हादसे पर दुख जताया है. उन्होंने कहा- 'मैंने अभी रेल दुर्घटना की स्थिति की समीक्षा की. कल सुबह घटनास्थल का दौरा करूंगा.'

ओडिशा ट्रेन हादसा : रेल मंत्री अश्विनी वैष्णव घटनास्थल के लिए रवाना

ओडिशा के बालासोर जिले में बहानागा रेलवे स्टेशन के पास शुक्रवार की शाम को दो ट्रेनों के दुर्घटनाग्रस्त हो गई हैं. रेल मंत्री अश्विनी वैष्णव घटनास्थल के लिए रवाना हो गए हैं. बालासोर जिले में यात्री ट्रेन कोरोमंडल एक्सप्रेस की बोगियां पटरी से उतर गईं. इसी बीच उसके पास की पटरी से गुजरते हुए यशवंतपुर से हावड़ा जा रही एक्सप्रेस ट्रेन उतरी हुई बोगियों से बाजू से टकरा गई. इस हादसे में 400 लोग घायल हुए हैं. हादसे में 30 लोगों की मौत होने की आशंका है. 

रेल मंत्री अश्विनी वैष्णव ने ओडिशा की ट्रेन दुर्घटना को लेकर मुआवजे की घोषणा की है. वैष्णन ने ट्वीट किया है - ओडिशा में हुए इस दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण ट्रेन हादसे में मरने वाले प्रत्येक व्यक्ति के परिवार को 10 लाख रुपये, गंभीर घायलों को दो लाख रुपये और मामूली घायलों को 50,000 रुपये की मदद दी जाएगी.

ट्रेन में कई यात्रियों के फंसे होने की आशंका है. घायल हुए लोगों को अस्पतालों में ले जाया गया है. राहत और बचाव दल दुर्घटना स्थल पर मौजूद हैं. घायल हुए 10 यात्रियों को बालासोर मेडिकल कॉलेज में भर्ती किया गया है. मेडिकल कॉलेज और बालासोर के आसपास के सभी अस्पतालों को अलर्ट पर रखा गया है.

रेल मंत्रालय ने NDTV से कहा है कि, ''करीब 8 से 10 बोगी पटरी से उतरी हैं. यह किसी ट्रेन से टक्कर नहीं है, मालगाड़ी से भी कोई टक्कर नहीं है. जब ट्रेन डिरेल हुई तब बगल की पटरी से यशवंतपुर से हावड़ा ट्रेन गुजर रही थी. उधर पटरी से उतरकर ट्रेन की बोगी आ गई और फिर ये नुकसान पहुंचा है.''

Cold Wave, Rain, Hailstorm Hits Rice, Apple Crop In Kashmir

Rain, frequent windstorm and hailstorm has severely impacted horticulture and agriculture - the mainstay of Kashmir's rural economy. The erratic weather has plunged temperature several degrees below normal in Kashmir. In June, people are still wearing woollens.

At Daragam village of Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district, it's a double whammy for Bilal Ahmad. Not only his paddy seedlings are failing before plantation due to erratic weather and cold, a severe hailstorm has badly damaged his apple and cherry crops. Bilal's family of six, entirely dependent on farming, is now despairing.

"Paddy cultivation is failing. Seedling has not grown due to cold. I have sown paddy seeds again but that may come up in July," said Bilal Ahmad.

Normally, paddy plantation is completed by June but this time farmers like Bilal are struggling.

"Our orchard was also hit by hailstorm. There is nothing left. We appeal government for help," said Bilal Ahmad.

Ghulam Hassan, another villager, says he had sown paddy seeds twice in the last two months and it failed both times. The unseasonal rain has drowned his dreams as he is left with just a few seedlings, not enough for his half acre paddy farm.

"Because of cold, seedlings have not grown. Both quality and quality have been impacted. Cold weather has badly affected our paddy crop," said Ghulam Hassan.

Many are now seeking divine intervention against the erratic weather. Special prayers are being held at several places for improvement in weather.

The Meteorological Office has predicted more rain and advised farmers to not carry out farming operations till the 5th of this month.

The Jammu And Kashmir Government agriculture department says they have set up protected nurseries in every district to help distressed farmers whose seedlings have failed. But warns that more rains and cold could further damage.

"Taking into consideration all these factors I have managed certain nurseries in my own (department) farms. If at any point of time there is any deficiency, I will arrange it from here," said Iqbal Chaudary, Director Agriculture department Kashmir.

Mr Chaudary said all other interventions and measures have been taken by the department to help farmers but warns decrease in production if temperature falls further.

"If temperature falls further, there will be delay and paddy production will decrease," said Mr Chaudary.

Kashmir produces over 22 lakh metric tons of apple which is more than 70% of total apple production in the country. Cold and freak weather conditions have caused a massive damage to the crop.

Will Release 200 Indian Fishermen, 3 Civilian Prisoners: Pak Minister

Pakistan Minister of Foreign Affairs Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Friday said the country will release 200 Indian fishermen and three civilian prisoners.

"Today, Pakistan is releasing 200 Indian fishermen and 3 civilian prisoners. Earlier, 198 Indian fishermen were repatriated on May 12, 2023. This is in line with Pakistan's policy of not politicizing humanitarian matters. Compassion should take precedence over politics," Bilawal tweeted on Friday.

Recently, the Indian Coast Guard ship acted swiftly to free Indian fishermen who were being taken to a Pakistani port by the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA).

The incident took place on October 6 when the Indian Coast Guard ship Arinjay received information about an emergency involving an Indian fishing boat Harsiddhi-5 from Jakhau which was involved in fishing activities close to the maritime boundary line off the Gujarat coast, Indian Coast Guard officials told ANI.

"On receipt of the information regarding distress onboard Harsiddhi, on radio, ICG ship on patrol immediately proceeded with maximum speed towards the reported position," they said.

नई दिल्ली: कांग्रेस ने राजस्थान के मुख्यमंत्री अशोक गहलोत और पूर्व उपमुख्यमंत्री सचिन पायलट के बीच के विवाद को सुलझाने के प्रयासों की पृष्ठभूमि में बृहस्पतिवार को कहा कि पार्टी सर्वोपरि है और आगामी विधानसभा चुनाव में पूरी पार्टी एकजुट होकर लड़ेगी. पार्टी महासचिव जयराम रमेश ने गहलोत और पायलट की ओर से बयानों का सिलसिला जारी रहने के बारे में पूछे जाने पर यह टिप्पणी की.

रमेश ने संवाददाताओं से कहा, ‘‘29 मई को लंबी बैठक हुई थी. सभी विषयों पर चर्चा हुई. पार्टी सर्वोपरि है. हम एकजुट होकर चुनाव लड़ेंगे और जीतेंगे.'' उल्लेखनीय है कि कांग्रेस ने गहलोत और पायलट के साथ पार्टी अध्यक्ष मल्लिकार्जुन खरगे और पूर्व अध्यक्ष राहुल गांधी की मैराथन बैठक के बाद गत सोमवार को कहा था कि दोनों नेता आगामी विधानसभा चुनाव एकजुट होकर लड़ने पर सहमत हैं और उनके बीच के मुद्दों का समाधान आलाकमान करेगा.

पार्टी के संगठन महासचिव केसी वेणुगोपाल ने यह भी कहा था कि गहलोत और पायलट पार्टी के प्रस्ताव पर सहमत हो गए हैं. हालांकि, उन्होंने इस बारे में कोई ब्योरा नहीं दिया था. पायलट ने पूर्ववर्ती भारतीय जनता पार्टी ( भाजपा) सरकार में कथित भ्रष्टाचार के खिलाफ कार्रवाई सहित अपनी अन्य मांगों से पीछे हटने से बुधवार को इनकार करते हुए कहा कि उन्होंने जिन मुद्दों को उठाया था, उनसे समझौता करने की कोई संभावना नहीं है.

The successful conclusion of the third tourism working group meeting of the G20 countries here is a huge lesson for those who have frequently tried to foment trouble in Jammu and Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said here on Thursday.

"The tourism meeting of the G20 countries concluded on May 25. The successful G20 meeting in J-K is not only a matter of happiness for the country, but a huge lesson for those who have frequently tried to create trouble in J&K," Sinha said, addressing a function at SKICC here.

The LG said such a large number of people could only participate because of the dawn of change ushered under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership since 2019, the year the Centre abrogated Article 370. "I do not want to go into the details, but the achievements made in various sectors in Jammu and Kashmir, have increased the belief of the people in the administration and the current PM," Sinha said.

Jammu and Kashmir has come a long way and places like Shopian or Pulwama districts in south Kashmir, which the country knew for other reasons, saw the participation of more than 10,000 youths in the Tiranga yatra, the LG said.

"These youths chanted 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' carrying Tiranga in their hands. This is the change Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed in the last three years. We resolve to work towards the target set by the PM for Jammu and Kashmir. Undoubtedly, not only will J&K integrate with India, but it will also have an important contribution towards developed India," Mr Sinha said.

He was addressing the World Milk Day Celebration and summer meet for Animal Husbandry and Dairy Sector Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Parshottam Rupala presided over the event.

Mr Sinha said the celebration of World Milk Day here is an opportunity to acknowledge the contribution of dairy farmers. "Dairy makes an important contribution to the prosperity of the society and to the well-being and economic activity of the farming families. The UT government attaches the highest importance to sustained increase in productivity and growth of the dairy sector," he said.

The Lt Governor highlighted the contribution of the dairy sector in giving impetus to the rural economy and providing livelihood to a large population associated with the sector. Mr Sinha said Jammu and Kashmir administration is strengthening its ties with other states and even countries to transform the livestock and dairy sector and to improve farmers' income.

The government has its focus on fodder production, improving wool quality, and addressing issues like inbreeding, he said, adding, the Union Territory will soon become self-sufficient in fodder production with 80 per cent of fodder being grown locally.

The LG also spoke on the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) and gave suggestions to the farming community on how to get easy credit access, stressing them to become a part of the banking system. He also said the people of Jammu and Kashmir must identify 25 potential projects in agriculture and allied sectors and rope in reputed universities to work out strategies to see them through, he said. The Lt Governor also urged the Centre to consider Jammu and Kashmir for international funding like other Himalayan states.

Court Orders SpiceJet To Pay Rs 75 Crore To Kalanidhi Maran, His Airline

The Delhi High Court has directed SpiceJet to deposit "forthwith" Rs 75 crore that has to be paid to media baron Kalanidhi Maran and his Kal Airways towards interest on an arbitral award of Rs 578 crore.

The high court said, admittedly, there is no modification of the February 13, 2023 order passed by the Supreme Court in the case, and hence it needs to be followed.

“Since the judgment debtor (SpiceJet) had failed to pay an amount of Rs 75 crores to decree holder (Maran and Kal Airways), hence in terms of para 15 (ii) of the order dated February 13, 2023 of the Supreme Court, there is no other alternative except to call upon the judgment debtors to deposit the entire outstanding amount qua interest forthwith, thus is so directed. Affidavit of assets be also filed within four weeks from today,” Justice Yogesh Khanna said in an order passed on May 29.

The top court, in its February 13 order said "The appellant (SpiceJet) shall, within a period of three months, pay an amount of Rs 75 crores to the respondent (Maran and Kal Airways) towards the liability on account of interest pending the disposal of the petition…” On November 2, 2020, the high court had asked the airline to deposit around Rs 243 crore as interest in connection with the share transfer dispute with its former promoter, Maran, and Kal Airways.

On November 7, 2020, the top court had stayed the high court order.

On February 13 this year, the top court said the bank guarantee of Rs 270 crore of SpiceJet must be encashed immediately and the money be paid to Maran and Kal Airways towards dues from the arbitral award.

It said it had directed SpiceJet to pay within three months Rs 75 crore to Maran and Kal Airways towards the interest component on the arbitral award.

However, on May 29, the high court was informed that SpiceJet has not paid the interest amount.

Maran's counsel said the interest liability, which was Rs 362.49 crore, has since increased to Rs 380 crore and so the decree holder insists for compliance of the February 13 order of the top court.

The SpiceJet's lawyer, however, submitted they have already paid the principal amount of Rs 579.08 crore and now the payment with respect to only the interest is pending.

The lawyer said the company has already moved an application before the Supreme Court for extension of time by three months to the judgment debtor to make payment of Rs 75 crore to the decree holder.

The counsel said since the judgment debtor has filed an application before the Supreme Court for extension of time, it be not directed to deposit the balance amount.

Filing of such an application was disputed by the counsel for Maran who said this court has no power to extend the time limit as was granted by the top court.

The high court agreed with the submission of Maran's lawyer and said the explanation appears to be plausible as, admittedly, there has been no modification to the February order of the top court which needs to be followed.

SpiceJet and its promoter Ajay Singh were asked to deposit around Rs 243 crore as interest payable on Rs 578 crore, which the high court had, in 2017, asked the airline to deposit under the 2018 arbitration award in the share-transfer dispute.

The high court had granted six weeks to SpiceJet to make the payment and the deadline for the same expired on October 14, 2020.

After this, Maran and his firm had moved the high court for attachment of the entire shareholding of Singh in Spicejet and taking over the management for non-payment of Rs 243 crore.

The top court had taken note of Spicejet's appeal and passed the interim order, staying the high court order.

Maran and Kal Airways had moved the high court over the share-transfer dispute, with SpiceJet demanding that 18 crore warrants redeemable as equity shares be transferred to them.

The high court had directed SpiceJet and Singh to deposit Rs 578 crore in the high court's registry.

SpiceJet was permitted to furnish a bank guarantee for Rs 329 crore and make a cash deposit of the remaining sum before the high court.

The top court had, in July 2017, dismissed SpiceJet's appeal against the high court order.

On July 20, 2018, the arbitral tribunal rejected Maran's claim of damages of Rs 1,323 crore for not issuing the warrants to him and Kal Airways but had awarded him a refund of Rs 578 crore plus interest.

Maran, the owner of Sun TV Network, then moved the high court against the arbitration award.

The matter pertained to a dispute arising out of the non-issuance of warrants in favour of Maran after the transfer of ownership to Singh, the controlling shareholder of SpiceJet.

The dispute started after Singh took back control of SpiceJet in February 2015 amid the airline facing a financial crisis.

Maran and Kal Airways had transferred their entire Rs 35.04 crore equity shares in SpiceJet, amounting to a 58.46 per cent stake in the airline, to its co-founder Singh in February 2015 for just Rs 2. PTI SKV SKV SK

उल्लेखनीय है कि जनता दल (यूनाइटेड) के शीर्ष नेता नीतीश कुमार आगामी लोकसभा चुनाव के मद्देनजर पिछले कुछ महीनों से विपक्षी एकजुटता का प्रयास कर रहे हैं. इस प्रयास के तहत वह कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष खरगे समेत कई विपक्षी नेताओं से मुलाकात कर चुके हैं. नीतीश ने इसी प्रयास के तहत 12 जून को पटना में विपक्षी नेताओं की बैठक बुलाई है.

WhatsApp Blocked 74.5 Lakh Accounts In India Last Month

Mobile messaging platform WhatsApp took action on about 5 per cent grievances it received in April, the company's India monthly report under IT rules said on Thursday.

WhatsApp blocked 74,52,500 Indian accounts in April out of which 2,469,700 were proactively banned, before any reports from users, said the report.

The company received 4,377 complaints from users in April.

However, it took action on only 234 complaints or about 5 per cent of the total complaints.

The statistics shared by WhatsApp shows that it received 4,100 appeals to ban accounts, out of which it took action only on 223 accounts.

"We respond to all grievances received except in cases where a grievance is deemed to be a duplicate of a previous ticket. An account is 'actioned' when an account is banned or a previously banned account is restored, as a result of a complaint," the report said.

WhatsApp report shows that the Grievance Appellate Committee (GAC) issued it two orders and the company complied with both of them.

The GAC looks after complaints from users not satisfied with resolution of complaints by the social media platforms.

India, China Agree To Hold Next Round Of Military Talks Soon Over Ladakh

India and China on Wednesday held in-person diplomatic talks here and discussed proposals for disengagement in the remaining friction points along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh in a "frank and open manner".

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said restoration of peace and tranquillity will create conditions for normalising bilateral relations and to this objective both sides agreed to hold the next round of military talks at an early date.

The meeting took place under the framework of Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs (WMCC).

"The two sides reviewed the situation along the LAC in Western Sector of India-China border areas and discussed proposals for disengagement in remaining areas in a frank and open manner," the MEA said.

"Restoration of peace and tranquillity will create conditions for normalising bilateral relations," it said.

"In order to achieve this objective, in accordance with existing bilateral agreements and protocols, they agreed to hold the next (19th) round of Senior Commander's meeting at an early date," the MEA said in a statement.

It said the two sides agreed to continue discussions through military and diplomatic channels.

"UPA Left Shattered Economy": Union Minister On Morgan Stanley Report

Morgan Stanley's report on how India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has transformed and gained a position in the world order in less than a decade is the "best and sharpest indictment" of the Congress-led UPA's "lost decade between 2004 and 2014", Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar said on Wednesday.

Speaking to PTI, he said the report reminds Indians how the Congress-led UPA had in 2014 left "a shattered economy". Nine years later, India has emerged as one of the fastest-growing economies in the world with record FDI, the minister said.

"This report that says how India is transformed in less than a decade under Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in my opinion the best and sharpest indictment of the UPA's lost decade between 2004 and 2014," he said.

In the report, Morgan Stanley said significant scepticism about India, particularly with overseas investors, ignores the significant changes that have taken place in India, especially since 2014.

Rejecting criticism that India has not delivered its potential (despite it being the second-fastest-growing economy and among the top-performing stock markets over the past 25 years) and that equity valuations are too rich, saying such a view ignores the systematic reforms in the last nine years.

Chandrasekhar said, "The report goes into details and it reminds Indians that how in 2014 the Congress' UPA had left a shattered economy, almost 14 quarters of runaway inflation, 12 quarters of decline in economy and industrial production, investors running away from the country, a broken financial sector that was characterised by crony corrupt lending by banks, and international big investors like Telenor, Nokia running away from India." "That was the situation in 2014 that this report has rightfully captured," he told PTI.

The Union minister said India has come through the Covid pandemic, one of the "most disruptive times" in the history of the world, and emerged as a stronger nation that has earned "all the respect of the world".

"Whether it is the formalisation of the economy, tax rates that are comparative with the world, and infrastructure... We have become the largest infrastructure in the world today.

"We are the fastest growing innovation economy in the world. We are becoming a technology power in the world... Most importantly, from the eleventh largest economy in the world, we have become the fifth in a short span of nine years under Prime Minister Narendra Modi," he added.

Chandrasekhar said the report indicates that Prime Minister Modi has not only been working for the growth of the nation but he has expanded the economy and brought stability and security.

"He has created good governance despite the fact that in 2014 the UPA and the Congress government had left a total mess for Prime Minister Modi ji to inherit," he added.

जीडीपी के आंकड़े बता रहे, भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्था तेजी से बढ़ रही : विशेषज्ञ

सकल घरेलू उत्पाद (GDP) वृद्धि दर के आंकड़े स्पष्ट रूप से बताते हैं भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्था मार्च, 2023 तिमाही के बाद से तेज गति से बढ़ रही है. उद्योग मंडलों के अनुसार विनिर्माण और कृषि जैसे क्षेत्र आर्थिक गतिविधियों को गति दे रहे हैं.

आर्थिक वृद्धि दर मार्च तिमाही में 6.1 प्रतिशत जबकि पूरे वित्त वर्ष 2022-23 में 7.2 प्रतिशत रही. इस वृद्धि के बाद देश की अर्थव्यवस्था 3.3 लाख करोड़ डॉलर की हो गई है और इसने अगले पांच वर्षों में पांच लाख करोड़ डॉलर के लक्ष्य का मंच तैयार कर दिया है.

वित्त वर्ष 2021-22 में आर्थिक वृद्धि दर 9.1 प्रतिशत रही थी.

उद्योग मंडल ऐसोचैम के महासचिव दीपक सूद ने कहा, “वित्त वर्ष 2022-23 के सकल घरेलू उत्पाद (जीडीपी) के आंकड़ों पर नजर डालें तो स्पष्ट संकेत दिखता है कि मार्च तिमाही से भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्था ने विनिर्माण, निर्माण और वित्तीय सेवाओं जैसे क्षेत्रों में तेजी से वृद्धि की है.”

उन्होंने कहा कि कच्चे तेल सहित अन्य कच्चे माल की कीमतों में नरमी और ब्याज दर के उच्च स्तर पर पहुंचने को देखते हुए इसके आने वाले समय में इसी रफ्तार से आगे बढ़ने की उम्मीद है.

उद्योग मंडल पीएचडी चैम्बर्स ऑफ कॉमर्स एंड इंडस्ट्री के अध्यक्ष साकेत डालमिया ने कहा कि सकल स्थिर पूंजी निर्माण स्थिर कीमतों पर जीडीपी के 34 प्रतिशत पर रहना उत्साहजनक है. यह रोजगार सृजन की प्रबल संभावनाओं के साथ अर्थव्यवस्था में पूंजी व्यय बढ़ने का संकेत देती है.

Action Will Be Taken Once Probe Completed, Says Rajnath Singh To Wrestlers

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Wednesday that women wrestlers' complaint against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Singh is being probed and action will be taken once the investigation is over.

Some of the country's top wrestlers have been protesting against Brij Bhushan Singh, a BJP MP, demanding his sacking from the federation and his arrest. The Delhi Police has registered two FIRs against him and is probing the case.

"The matter is being investigated. The government will take action in the matter once the investigation is over," the defence minister told reporters.

He was in the district to attended a family function.

He also said all political parties should have attended the inauguration of the new Parliament building by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday.

"The inauguration of new Lok Sabha Bhawan was a public event which should have been attended by all political parties. It was not a session of the House. It was a matter of pride for the country," the defence minister said.

The Congress and 20 other parties boycotted the inauguration of the building by the prime minister, saying it was an insult to President Droupadi Murmu, a tribal woman, that she was not invited by the government to do the honours.

Rajnath Singh said the nation has progressed under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi in recent years and there is a marked decline in unemployment.

He said the benefits of government schemes have reached everyone and the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) will again form the government with a majority in the 2024 general elections.

Punjab Police Raid 2,000 Locations, Seize Drugs, Liquor, Phones And Cash

As many as 650 police teams, involving over 5,500 police personnel, carried out raids at 2,247 locations and conducted searches at 2,125 houses as Punjab Police Wednesday launched a statewide crackdown on those allegedly involved in the smuggling of commercial quantities of drugs, officials said.

The operation was conducted on the directions of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav between 7 am and 12 noon today, an official statement said.

Special DGP (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla said places and houses linked with alleged drug smugglers and peddlers were raided simultaneously during the operation.

In order to carry out raids in a synchronised manner, senior police officials were asked to personally monitor the operation, and form sufficient numbers of police teams under the supervision of gazetted rank officers, he added.

Shukla said police teams recovered 1.8 kg heroin, 82 kg poppy husk, 1 kg opium, Rs 5.35 lakh cash and four weapons, besides recovering illicit liquor, lahan (raw material used to make liquor) and some vehicles. Forty-eight First Information Reports (FIRs) were registered across the state.

Police also seized 78 mobile phones, which will be sent for forensic examination.

The houses of people with alleged links to drug smuggling were thoroughly searched during the operation, Shuka said, adding that police have enquired about the present occupation of such people.

Police teams also checked bank details and foreign transactions by suspected smugglers and their family members, he added.

The Special DGP said the intent of carrying out the operation was to keep a check on the influx of drugs across the inter-state borders, besides, keeping a tab on suspected drug smugglers. Such raids would continue in the future, he added.

"I Am A Common Man," Says Rahul Gandhi As He Arrives In US' San Francisco

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi arrived here on Tuesday for a three-city US tour during which he will interact with the Indian expatriates and meet American lawmakers.

He was received at the airport by Indian Overseas Congress chairperson Sam Pitroda and other members of the IOC. Rahul Gandhi had to wait for two hours at the airport for the immigration clearance, party sources said.

While he was waiting in the queue, several people who were travelling with him in the same flight clicked selfies with him.

When people asked him why he was standing in the queue, Rahul Gandhi replied, "I am a common man. I like it. I am no longer an MP." Starting with San Francisco where he is scheduled to interact with students at the prestigious Stanford University, Rahul Gandhi will address a press conference and have meetings with lawmakers and think tanks in Washington DC.

The 52-year-old Congress leader is also likely to address Indian Americans and interact with Wall Street executives and university students during his week-long tour of the USA. He is slated to conclude his trip with a public gathering in New York on June 4. The interaction would take place at the Javits Center in New York.

Last week, Indian Overseas Congress chairperson Sam Pitroda said Rahul Gandhi's visit is aimed at promoting shared values and a vision of "real democracy".

"The purpose of his (Gandhi's) trip is to connect, interact and begin a new conversation with various individuals, institutions and media, including the Indian diaspora that is growing in numbers in the United States and abroad to promote the shared values and vision of the real democracy with a focus on freedom, inclusion, sustainability, justice, peace and opportunities world over," Sam Pitroda said in a statement.

Rahul Gandhi received a new ordinary passport on Sunday, two days after a Delhi court gave its clearance.

The former Congress president, who had applied for an ordinary passport after surrendering the old diplomatic passport issued to him when he was a member of parliament, is set to travel to San Francisco in the United States on Monday evening on a three-city tour.

Rahul Gandhi was disqualified as an MP in March following his conviction and two-year sentence by a Gujarat court in a defamation case over his Modi surname remark.

Helicopter Slithering Training Given To Commandos By Delhi Police

In view of the upcoming G20 Summit, Delhi Police gave training to its newly recruited commandos on 'helicopter slithering' at Delhi Police Academy in Jharoda Kalan, officials said on Tuesday.

The training, which is a first of its kind by the police, was given to 55 male, 25 female and 15 SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) unit commandos, they said. The aim of the training is to ready the commandos for any potential evacuation during disasters or any terrorist incidents, police said, adding that the exercise was conducted using an M-17 Helicopter.

The training was held in the presence of Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora and other senior officers of the force, and was assisted by the Border Security Force, they added.

According to police, slithering from a helicopter is risky, not only to the commando carrying out the procedure from an airborne helicopter but also to the pilot. It is more dangerous and challenging compared to the slithering exercise from a building or a tree.

"For this training session, a makeshift helipad was prepared on the ground of Delhi Police Academy, Jharoda Kalan. A Border Security Force MI-17 IV helicopter, fitted with a slithering frame and trained men from BSF took off from Safdarjung airport and landed at the helipad of police academy, Jharoda Kalan," the police statement said.

दिल्ली में 2014 के बाद से मौसम ने पहली बार ऐसी करवट ली है कि मानसून से पहले राष्ट्रीय राजधानी में लोगों को लू का प्रकोप नहीं झेलना पड़ा. प्राथमिक मौसम केंद्र सफदरजंग वेधशाला के अधिकारियों ने मंगलवार को यह जानकारी दी. हालांकि, कुछ इलाकों में अप्रैल और मई में बहुत थोड़े समय के लिए लू जैसे हालात देखे गए. पिछला इतिहास देखें तो दिल्ली में सबसे गर्म महीने मई में औसत अधिकतम तापमान 39.5 डिग्री सेल्सियस रहता है. इस बार इस महीने में तापमान सामान्य से नीचे रहा और अधिक बारिश हुई. 

मौसम विज्ञानियों ने सामान्य से अधिक पश्चिमी विक्षोभ को इसके लिए जिम्मेदार ठहराया है. पश्चिमी विक्षोभ एक मौसम प्रणाली है, जो भूमध्यसागरीय क्षेत्र में उत्पन्न होती है और इसके कारण मानसून से पहले के मौसम यानी मार्च से मई के बीच उत्तर-पश्चिम भारत में बेमौसम बारिश होती है. 

भारत मौसम विज्ञान विभाग (आईएमडी) के क्षेत्रीय पूर्वानुमान केंद्र के प्रमुख कुलदीप श्रीवास्तव ने कहा, “आमतौर पर, अप्रैल और मई में उत्तरी मैदानी इलाकों में पांच से छह पश्चिमी विक्षोभ दर्ज किए जाते हैं. हमने इस बार 10 पश्चिमी विक्षोभ देखे हैं, जिनमें से ज्यादातर मजबूत थे.”

मई में दिल्ली में केवल नौ दिन अधिकतम तापमान 40 डिग्री से अधिक दर्ज किया गया. इनमें से दो दिन कुछ हिस्सों में लू जैसी स्थिति बनी. 

आईएमडी के आंकड़ों के मुताबिक, सफदरजंग वेधशाला ने मई में अब तक 86.7 मिमी बारिश दर्ज की है. मई महीने में राष्ट्रीय राजधानी में औसतन 19.7 मिमी बारिश होती है. 

शहर में अप्रैल में 20 मिमी से अधिक बारिश दर्ज की गई, जो 2017 के बाद से इस महीने में सबसे अधिक है. अप्रैल में कुछ इलाकों में लू की स्थिति देखी गई थी. 

कुल मिलाकर, इस साल मानसून से पहले दिल्ली में 158 फीसदी अधिक बारिश हुई है. इस अवधि के दौरान औसतन सामान्य 62.6 मिमी बारिश होती है, लेकिन इस बार 161.2 मिमी बारिश हुई है. 

श्रीवास्तव ने कहा, “दिल्ली के प्राथमिक मौसम केंद्र सफदरजंग वेधशाला ने इस साल मानसून पूर्व मौसम में कोई लू दर्ज नहीं की है. 2014 के बाद पहली बार ऐसा हुआ है.”

मौसम केंद्र ने पिछले साल मानसून पूर्व मौसम में 13 दिन लू की स्थिति दर्ज की थी. इनमें से नौ बार अप्रैल, जबकि चार बार मई में लू दर्ज की गई थी. 

आईएमडी के मुताबिक, मैदानी इलाकों में तापमान 40 डिग्री सेल्सियस, तटीय क्षेत्रों में 37 डिग्री सेल्सियस और पहाड़ी इलाकों में 30 डिग्री सेल्सियस के पार जाने या सामान्य से 4.5 डिग्री सेल्सियस अधिक होने पर चलने वाली गर्म हवाओं को ‘लू' घोषित किया जाता है. 

आईएमडी के अनुसार, एक जून से ताजा पश्चिमी विक्षोभ से दिल्ली समेत मैदानी इलाकों में तेज हवाएं चलेंगी और बारिश होगी. पांच जून तक अधिकतम तापमान 40 डिग्री सेल्सियस से नीचे रहने का अनुमान है. 

इस महीने की शुरुआत में मौसम कार्यालय ने अधिकतम तापमान सामान्य से नीचे रहने और उत्तर पश्चिम भारत में कुछ दिन के लिए लू चलने का अनुमान जताया था. 

आईएमडी ने दक्षिण-पश्चिम मानसून के आगमन में थोड़ी देरी का अनुमान जताया है। ऐसे में जून में अधिकतम तापमान लंबे समय तक सामान्य से अधिक रहने का अनुमान है.

Punjab Cabinet Expansion Tomorrow

The Bhagwant Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab will on Wednesday induct MLAs Balkar Singh and Gurmeet Singh Khudian as cabinet ministers, officials said.

Cabinet Minister Inderbir Singh Nijjar has tendered his resignation from the Council of Ministers, citing personal reasons, they said.

Chief Minister Mann has forwarded the resignation of Local Government Minister Nijjar to Governor Banwarilal Purohit, an official said.

The Bhagwant Mann-led dispensation has sought time from the Punjab governor for the swearing-in ceremony on Wednesday.

Balkar Singh is a legislator from Kartarpur, in Jalandhar, while Khudian is an MLA from the Lambi seat.

Currently, the strength of the Mann-led cabinet is 15, including the chief minister. There are a total of 18 berths in the cabinet.

भारत चार जुलाई को डिजिटल तरीके से SCO शिखर सम्मेलन की करेगा मेजबानी

भारत चार जुलाई को डिजिटल तरीके से शंघाई सहयोग संगठन (एससीओ) के वार्षिक शिखर सम्मेलन की मेजबानी करेगा. विदेश मंत्रालय ने मंगलवार को यह घोषणा की. बहरहाल, उसने डिजिटल तरीके से सम्मेलन आयोजित कराने की वजह नहीं बतायी.

अधिकारियों ने बताया कि विभिन्न पहलुओं पर विचार करते हुए, डिजिटल तरीके से शिखर सम्मेलन आयोजित कराने के विकल्प पर चर्चा की गयी और सदस्य देशों से विचार-विमर्श करने के बाद इस संबंध में अंतिम निर्णय लिया गया.

पिछले साल एससीओ शिखर सम्मेलन उज्बेकिस्तान के समरकंद शहर में हुआ थे जिसमें प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी, चीन के राष्ट्रपति शी चिनफिंग और रूस के राष्ट्रपति व्लादिमीर पुतिन समेत सभी शीर्ष नेता शामिल हुए थे.

भारत सितंबर में जी20 शिखर सम्मेलन की मेजबानी करेगा जिसके लिए वह शी चिनफिंग तथा पुतिन को आमंत्रित कर रहा है.

भारत ने पिछले साल 16 सितंबर को समरकंद शिखर सम्मेलन में एससीओ की अध्यक्षता संभाली थी.

विदेश मंत्रालय ने एक बयान में कहा, ‘‘पहली बार भारत की अध्यक्षता में एससीओ का 22वां शिखर सम्मेलन डिजिटल तरीके से चार जुलाई को प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी की अध्यक्षता में होगा.''

भारत ने इस महीने गोवा में दो दिवसीय सम्मेलन में एससीओ के विदेश मंत्रियों की मेजबानी की थी.

विदेश मंत्रालय ने कहा कि एससीओ के सभी सदस्य देशों - चीन, रूस, कजाखस्तान, किर्गिस्तान, पाकिस्तान, ताजिकिस्तान और उज्बेकिस्तान को शिखर सम्मेलन में भाग लेने के लिए आमंत्रित किया गया है.

उसने कहा, ‘‘ईरान, बेलारूस और मंगोलिया को पर्यवेक्षक देशों के रूप में आमंत्रित किया गया है. एससीओ की परंपरा के अनुसार, तुर्कमेनिस्तान को अतिथि के रूप में आमंत्रित किया गया है.''

विदेश मंत्रालय ने बताया कि छह अंतरराष्ट्रीय और क्षेत्रीय संगठनों के प्रमुखों को भी शिखर सम्मेलन के लिए आमंत्रित किया गया है. इन संगठनों में संयुक्त राष्ट्र, आसियान (दक्षिणपूर्व एशियाई राष्ट्रों के संघ), सीआईएस (स्वतंत्र देशों के राष्ट्रमंडल), सीएसटीओ (सामूहिक सुरक्षा संधि संगठन), ईएईयू (यूरेशियाई आर्थिक संघ) और सीआईसीए (एशिया में सहभागिता और विश्वास निर्माण उपायों पर शिखर सम्मेलन) शामिल हैं.

विदेश मंत्रालय ने कहा, ‘‘भारत ने अपनी अध्यक्षता के तहत सहयोग के नए स्तंभ स्थापित किए हैं - स्टार्टअप और नवोन्मेष, पारंपरिक औषधि, डिजिटल समावेशन, युवा सशक्तिकरण और साझा बौद्ध विरासत.''

"Strictest Punishment Should Be Given": BJP Leader On Delhi Murder Case

BJP MP Hans Raj Hans on Monday termed the brutal killing of a minor girl in northwest Delhi "very painful" and said youth sometimes get "carried away by emotions" and act like "fools".

The 16-year-old girl was stabbed multiple times and then bludgeoned with a stone by a youth on Sunday. The accused, identified as Sahil (20), was arrested by the police from Bulandshahar in Uttar Pradesh on Monday.

Mr Hans who, along with local BJP leaders, met the family of the victim, said the "strictest" punishment should be given to the guilty in the murder of the girl in the Shahabad Dairy area of his northwest Delhi constituency.

He said it was a "very painful" incident that came to his knowledge on Sunday night and since then he was in touch with the police for quick action to arrest the accused.

However, while talking about the present young generation, Mr Hans told PTI, "It was unfortunate. Youth sometimes get carried away by emotions...they act like fools sometimes." Mr Hans, who is a Sufi singer called love as "pious", noting that it turns into a crime when mixed with "hate".

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva described the murder of the minor girl as a case of "love jihad" and demanded its trial in a fast-track court.

Police said that the accused and the victim were allegedly in a "relationship" that had turned sour and the two had a fight on Saturday.

A purported CCTV footage of the gruesome killing that splashed on tv channels and social media handles sent shockwaves among people. In a shocking display of public apathy, people can be seen passing by, with some bystanders staring in alarm, but not doing anything to stop the brutal attack.

The accused is seen walking away from the victim in a casual manner only to turn back and again hit her with a slab before leaving the site.

लड़की को 16 बार चाकू घोंपने के बाद बुआ के घर भाग गया था साहिल, ब्रेकअप की बात से था नाराज: सूत्र

दिल्ली के शाहबाद डेयरी में 16 साल की लड़की की हत्या के मामले में दिल्ली पुलिस ने आरोपी साहिल (20) पकड़ लिया है. पुलिस ने उसे सोमवार दोपहर 3 बजे बुलंदशहर से गिरफ्तार किया. पुलिस के मुताबिक, लड़की का बेरहमी से कत्ल करने के बाद आरोपी साहिल ने अपना मोबाइल बंद कर दिया था और बुलंदशहर अपनी बुआ के घर भाग गया था. जांच और पूछताछ के बाद पुलिस को साहिल की लोकेशन मिल गई. जिसके बाद उसे गिरफ्तार कर लिया गया.

पुलिस सूत्रों से मिली जानकारी के मुताबिक, साहिल ने जिस लड़की को 16 बार चाकू मारा और पत्थरों से उसका सिर कुचल दिया, उसके हाथ में एक लड़के के नाम का टैटू भी बना हुआ था. प्राप्त जानकारी के मुताबिक, लड़की और साहिल पिछले 3 साल से दोस्त थे. लड़की की सहेली ने भी दोनों की दोस्ती के बारे में पुलिस को बयान दिया है. 

लड़की चाहती थी साहिल से ब्रेकअप करना
पुलिस की जांच में पता चला कि लड़की साहिल से अलग होना चाहती थी, लेकिन साहिल इस बात से नाराज़ था. शनिवार को दोनों के बीच इसी को लेकर झगड़ा भी हुआ था. लड़की ने साहिल को पुलिस में शिकायत करने की धमकी भी दी थी. साहिल इसी बात से लड़की पर गुस्साया हुआ था.

लड़की ने टॉय गन से डराया था
सूत्रों के मुताबिक, बताया जा रहा है एक बार लड़की ने एक टॉय पिस्टल से साहिल को डराया भी था, ताकि वो उसे परेशान न करे. सहिल के दोस्त या और जो भी संदेह के दायरे में है, पुलिस उनसे पूछताछ कर रही है. 

रविवार को हुई थी हत्या
रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक, साहिल ने शाहबाद डेयरी इलाके में रविवार शाम 16 साल की लड़की की सरेराह हत्या कर दी थी. शॉर्ट पोस्टमॉर्टम रिपोर्ट में लड़की के शरीर पर चाकू के 16 जख्म मिले हैं. जबकि सिर पर पत्थर पटकने की वजह से उसकी सिर फट गया था. डिटेल पोस्टमॉर्टम रिपोर्ट आना बाकी है.
 

लड़की के परिवार ने कहा- साहिल को फांसी हो
इस घटना के बाद पीड़िता के माता-पिता ने आरोपी को सख्त सजा देने की मांग की है. उन्होंने कहा कि हमारी बेटी का स्वभाव अच्छा था. हमारी मांग है कि जैसे उसने हमारी बेटी को मारा है वैसे ही उसे कड़ी से कड़ी सजा मिले, ताकि फिर से ऐसा कोई न कर सके. लड़की की मां ने बताया कि उनकी बेटी अपने भाभी के घर रह रही थी. उनके मुताबिक उनकी बेटी ने कभी साहिल को लेकर घर में कोई चर्चा नहीं की थी. उन्होंने बेटी के लिए इंसाफ मांगते हुए कहा कि साहिल को पूरी जिंदगी की सजा हो या फिर फांसी दी जाए.

Arvind Kejriwal To Attend AAP's Tiranga Yatra In Haryana's Jind Next Week

AAP national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will participate in a Tiranga Yatra in Haryana's Jind district next week as part of his party's campaign for the assembly elections in Haryana slated for next year.

The term of the state legislative assembly will expire on November 3, 2024.

"A Tiranga Yatra along with a road show has been organised in the Jind district of Haryana on June 8 to sound the poll bugle in the state," AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Kumar Gupta, who was recently appointed as the party's Haryana unit president, told PTI on Monday.

Both Mr Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will participate in the mega event in which around 50,000 people are expected to take part, he said.

Earlier in the day, Mr Kejriwal held a meeting here with his party's Haryana unit leaders who came to invite him to the event.

The meeting was attended by AAP's national organisation secretary Sandeep Pathak, Gupta and other party leaders from Haryana. Ashok Tanwar, who was recently appointed as the AAP's campaign committee chairman for Haryana, was also present at the meeting.

"Can't Proceed On Assumption": Court Bail To Man In Money Laundering Case

The Delhi High Court today granted bail to Indore-based real estate developer Vijay Agrawal in a money laundering case involving alleged hawala dealer Naresh Jain, and said when an individual's liberty is concerned, it cannot proceed merely on the basis of assumptions and presumptions.

Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma said there is no "absolute restraint" on the grant of bail under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act or a requirement of "positive finding qua guilt" at this stage.

The judge said there has to be some substantial link between the money received and criminal activity relating to scheduled offence, which can be attributed to the accused.

According to the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Naresh Jain along with his brother Bimal Jain and other accomplices hatched a criminal conspiracy to cause a loss to the exchequer and banks by indulging in illegal foreign exchange transactions on the basis of forged and fabricated documents.

The agency told the court that in furtherance of the conspiracy, Agrawal acquired shares of a company at a lesser price than actual valuation and also took loans from the shell companies of the co-accused.

The court observed the claim by Agrawal, who was arrested in March 2022, that he did not know he was dealing with tainted money cannot be brushed aside mechanically and granted him bail on a personal bond of Rs 25 lakh subject to conditions.

"For the purpose that evidence cannot be meticulously examined at this stage, the court cannot merely proceed on the basis of assumption. There has to be some substantial link between the money received and criminal activity relating to scheduled offence which can be attributed to the petitioner," said the court.

"The petitioner is stated to be renowned developer and his plea that he did not know that he is dealing with the tainted money cannot be brushed aside mechanically. If the liberty of an individual is concerned, the Court cannot proceed merely on the basis of assumptions and presumptions.. The twin conditions of Section 45 do not put an absolute restrain on the grant of bail or require a positive finding qua guilt," said the court.

In its order, the court stated while protecting the right and liberty of an individual, it has to consider the right of the society at large as well as the prosecuting agency as the offence of money laundering is a very serious offence which affects the financial health, integrity and sovereignty of the nation.

It however added the offence of money laundering is like a "running-goods train where the bogey keeps on adding" and the question to be examined is whether a person whose role is found later knew that the money which he has been dealing with is a proceed of crime and a finding cannot be returned "merely on the basis of inferences and presumptions".

The court added it cannot meticulously examine the evidence and cannot hold a mini trial at this stage as it has to only examine the case on the scale of broad probabilities.

The court noted in the present case, Agrawal was not an accused in the predicate offence and was also not named in the ED FIR. He also suffered from a serious medical condition, it said.

"Thus taking into account the facts and circumstances, the petitioner is admitted to bail on furnishing a personal bond in the sum of Rs.25,00,000/- (Rupees Twenty-Five lakhs) with two sureties of the like amount to the satisfaction of the trial court, subject to the conditions," ordered the court.

The ED has alleged that Naresh Jain and his accomplices were operating around 337 accounts in foreign banks in Dubai, Hongkong and Singapore in respect of 104 shell firms/ companies.

It claimed before the high court that during the investigation, 603 bank accounts of 311 companies have been examined and it has been gathered that Naresh Jain and his accomplices rotated funds approximately to the tune of Rs 96,000 crore for providing accommodation entries of approximately Rs 18,679 crore to 973 beneficiaries.

Siddaramaiah's "Need For New Parliament" Query Amid Wrestlers' Detention

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah questioned the need for a new Parliament building after protesting wrestlers were detained by the police on Sunday for demanding justice.

Security personnel stopped and detained protesting wrestlers as they try to march towards the new Parliament building from their site of protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.

In a tweet, the Karnataka Chief Minister said, "What's the need for the new Parliament building if it can't give justice to the Wrestlers who are protesting? It is unfortunate to know that few wrestlers have been detained for demanding justice. We as humans and Indians should stand with them and voice their concerns. They had made Indians proud by winning medals for us and we should make them feel proud to be Indians!!"

The ongoing wrestler protest in the national capital has taken a new toll as star grappler Bajrang Punia said the Mahila Mahapanchayat will definitely take place in front of the new Parliament building which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Several ace grapplers including Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat and Sakshee Mallik have been protesting at the Jantar Mantar accusing the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual harassment and demanding his arrest.

Wrestlers were trying to march towards the new Parliament as they want to hold a women's Maha Panchayat in front of the new Parliament.

"Democracy is being killed in the country, no one is getting the justice they deserve," Bajrang Punia told reporters ahead of the protesting wrestlers' march towards the new Parliament building.

Mr Punia said, "Many people are very cooperative with us but there are few police officials who are misbehaving with us, they are not allowing our family members to go inside."

Asked about whether the Mahapanchayat will take place or not, the 29-year-old wrestler said, "Mahapanchayat will definitely take place. We have given a letter to seek permission. Police are just making a fool out of us and are constantly keeping us under pressure."

Without naming Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, Punia said, "The one, who is accused of offences, is roaming freely. He banters about changing the law, defaming POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act controlling the government, no harm is done to that person, whereas, those who are peacefully protesting are getting ill-treated."

Further attacking WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, Bajrang Punia said, "He is only doing politics, he wants to change the POCSO Act."

Bajrang Punia stated that about 2,500 persons have been detained by police.

"Police are camping at the home of our coaches, players, and leaders of Kisan Union and Khap Panchayat. Whether it be Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, or Rajasthan," he said.

"I request to the government and to the police department to release our people who have been detained because we want to establish this as a peaceful protest and carry it on in the same manner. We are protesting for the self-respect of our sister and daughter, we are not protesting for any political motive," the Olympic Bronze medalist added.

'ऑनर किलिंग': पाकिस्तान के पंजाब प्रांत में युवती को जिंदा जलाया

लाहौर: पाकिस्तान के पंजाब प्रांत में एक युवती को जिंदा जलाने का मामला सामने आया है. पुलिस ने रविवार को यह जानकारी दी है. पुलिस ने बताया कि यह मामला झूठी शान की खातिर हत्या (ऑनर किलिंग) का है. पुलिस ने बताया कि यह घटना शुक्रवार को लाहौर से लगभग 200 किलोमीटर दूर झंग जिले के गढ़ महाराजा में हुई.

जांच अधिकारी मोहम्मद आजम ने रविवार को ‘पीटीआई-भाषा' को बताया कि रजाब अली ने अपने बेटों जब्बार और आमिर और परिवार के कुछ अन्य सदस्यों के साथ मिलकर 26 मई को अपनी 20 वर्षीय बेटी को घर में आग लगाने से पहले बुरी तरह प्रताड़ित किया.

पुलिस अधिकारी ने बताया कि युवती अपनी पसंद के व्यक्ति से शादी करना चाहती थी. उन्होंने कहा, ‘‘एक दिन पहले, वह घर से चली गई थीं और ऐसा बताया जाता है कि लौटने से पहले उस व्यक्ति के साथ कुछ समय बिताया था.'' आजम ने बताया कि उसके लौटने पर उसके पिता, दो भाइयों और परिवार की कुछ महिलाओं ने उसे रस्सी से बांध दिया और आग लगाने से पहले युवती को बुरी तरह से प्रताड़ित किया.

उन्होंने बताया कि पीड़िता को अस्पताल ले जाया गया जहां उसकी मौत हो गई. उन्होंने कहा, ‘‘मरने से पहले उसने पुलिस को आग लगाने वालों के बारे में बताया था. पुलिस ने पीड़िता के पिता, दो भाइयों और एक बहन को गिरफ्तार कर लिया है. आरोपियों के खिलाफ हत्या का मामला दर्ज किया गया है." अधिकारी ने कहा कि गिरफ्तार किये गये आरोपियों को अपने इस कृत्य पर कोई पछतावा नहीं है और उनका कहना है कि लड़की ने परिवार के सम्मान को ठेस पहुंचाई है.
