मुंबई के जोगेश्वरी में एक निर्माणाधीन इमारत से शनिवार शाम ऑटोरिक्शा पर लोहे की छड़ गिरने से 28 वर्षीय एक महिला और नौ वर्षीय एक लड़की की मौत हो गई. एक अधिकारी ने यह जानकारी दी है. उन्होंने बताया कि घटना वेस्टर्न एक्सप्रेस हाईवे पर शल्य अस्पताल के पास शाम करीब पांच बजे हुई.  वहीं, पिछले महीने वर्ली इलाके में एक सीमेंट ब्लॉक की चपेट में आने से दो लोगों की मौत हो गई थी, जो एक निर्माणाधीन इमारत से गिरा था. बृहन्मुंबई नगर निगम (बीएमसी) के एक अधिकारी ने कहा कि जिस निर्माणाधीन इमारत में ताजा दुर्घटना हुई, वह झुग्गी पुनर्वास प्राधिकरण (एसआरए) परियोजना थी. उन्होंने कहा कि 14 मंजिला इमारत के सातवीं मंजिल से लोहे की छड़ गिरी है. रिक्शा में यात्रा कर रहे शमा बानो आसिफ शेख (28) और आयत आसिफ शेख छड़ गिरने से घायल हो गए, जिसमें वे यात्रा कर रहे थे. अधिकारी ने कहा कि एक राहगीर द्वारा सिविक हेल्पलाइन को सूचित करने के बाद उन्हें पहले नजदीकी ट्रॉमा केयर अस्पताल ले जाया गया. अस्पताल में डॉक्टरों ने महिला को मृत घोषित कर दिया, जबकि लड़की को अंधेरी के कोकिलाबेन अस्पताल ले जाया गया. लेकिन कोकिलाबेन अस्पत...

Police have arrested 8 persons for allegedly killing an inmate of a private drug rehabilitation centre by beating him and pouring molten plastic on his private parts and then hurriedly cremating the body in Gujarat's Patan town, an official said on Saturday. Hardik Suthar (25) was murdered on February 17 and the accused, including the centre's manager, burnt the body at a cremation ground the same night by claiming his death to be natural in a phone call to his uncle, said Deputy Superintendent of Police KK Pandya. Sri Lanka has used over USD 10 million from India's assistance of USD 1 billion to print nearly half of the textbooks for its four million young students, the Indian High Commission in Colmbo said on Saturday. India announced a USD 1 billion line of credit to Sri Lanka last year as part of its financial assistance to help the country deal with its economic crisis. The warning was delivered by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema during his Budget speech in the state assembly. The defence ministry on Friday sealed a deal with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) to procure six Dornier aircraft at a cost of Rs 667 crore for the Indian Air Force. The addition of the six aircraft will further bolster the operational capability of the IAF in remote areas, the defence ministry said announcing the contract. The Dornier-228 aircraft is a highly versatile multi-purpose light transport aircraft. The MoD has signed a contract for six upgraded Dornier-228 aircraft for IAF from HAL at a cost of ₹667 Cr. In the view of some organisations of West Bengal government employees calling a strike on Friday demanding a hike in Dearness Allowance (DA), the Mamata Banerjee administration said no leave will be allowed on that day and the absence will be treated as a break in service. According to an order issued by the state finance department on Thursday, all state government offices including those provided with grants-in-aid by the state such as educational institutions shall remain open on March 10 and all employees will report for duty on that day. Hailstorm and rains lashed Shimla and surrounding areas late afternoon on Wednesday, bringing a sharp fall in temperatures in the region. It was a clear morning but thick clouds overcast the sky as the day advanced and high velocity icy winds swept through the region. Mashorba in the suburbs of Shimla town received 23 mm of rains, Shimla 14 mm, Jogindernagar 9 mm, Sundernagar 6 mm, Bajura 5 mm, Bhuntar 4 mm, Kufri, Pandoh, Gohar and Mandi 3 mm each, and Banjar, Sunni and Sangla 2 mm each, as per the weather department. High velocity winds were witnessed in the plains. Fifty-four roads are still closed for vehicular traffic in the state, including 45 in the interior areas of Lahaul and Spiti. The BSF on Monday recovered gold biscuits worth around Rs 2.57 crore from a pond in Kalyani border outpost area in West Bengal's Nadia district, officials said. A BSF team carried out a search operation to trace the gold based on specific information, they said. "40 gold biscuits were found in the pond. The market value of the seized gold is around Rs 2.57 crore," a BSF statement said. A smuggler had jumped into the pond and hidden the gold thereupon being chased a few months ago, it said. "When we had caught him, nothing was found from his possession. So, we released him. He had hidden the gold in the pond and was looking for an opportunity to recover it," the statement said. The BSF South Bengal Frontier seized more than 113 kg of gold in 2022, it added. In an embarrassment to the Punjab Police, a video clip surfaced on Sunday purportedly showing a group of gangsters lodged in a Tarn Taran jail "celebrating" the killing of two rival gang members accused in the Sidhu Moosewala murder case inside the prison last week. Seven prison officials were suspended and five of them, including the jail superintendent, were arrested following the viral clip which also showed the gangsters pointing to the bodies lying on the floor with some on-duty police personnel nearby.
