A 17-year-old boy has died by suicide after jumping from the fourth floor of a popular mall in Mohali. Videos show the boy, identified as Abhijeet, pacing near a glass railing on the fourth floor of Bestech Square Mall, at 9.14 am on Saturday. He walks up to the railing twice, stopping once and changing direction the second time, before walking towards it faster at 9.19 am, climbing it and jumping.  A senior police official said, "We got a call around 9.30 am that a boy who appeared to be around 17-18 years old has attempted suicide by jumping from the fourth floor of the Bestech mall. Our team reached the spot within five to eight minutes and he was rushed to a hospital. We were informed by the hospital a few hours later that he has died." The official said Abhijeet's father told them that he had been depressed. The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, which has been cleared by both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha after heated, marathon debates, will benefit women from the Muslim community and ensure transparency, BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad has said.  In an exclusive conversation with NDTV on Friday, the former law minister insisted that no mosque, place of worship or 'kabrastan' (graveyard) is going to be touched.  "The issue is very simple and straight. India's aviation sector is booming with over 10 crore passengers flying every year. To keep up with the demand, India needs at least 30,000 new pilots in the next few years. India's pilots are currently trained in foreign planes. Science Minister Jitendra Singh and Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu announced a new private sector partnership between Pioneer Clean Amps Pvt Ltd, Mumbai, which makes about 110 of these planes. Civil Aviation Minister K Ramomohan Naidu said 10 crore passengers are flying every year with just 840 aircraft, and the aviation industry has ordered another 1,700 planes. Delegations of the Meitei and Kuki communities separately left for Delhi to attend peace talks scheduled on Saturday, sources said. The meeting is part of the Ministry of Home Affairs' efforts to mediate between the two communities in the state where 250 people were killed and thousands were left homeless after violence began in May 2023. The Meitei team comprises three members each from the All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) and the Federation of Civil Society Organisations, a functionary of the FOCS said. On the other hand, representatives of the Zomi Council along with those from the Hmar Inpi and the Kuki Zo Council also left for Delhi to take part in the meeting, sources in the Kuki groups said. RJD president and former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad was on Wednesday admitted to AIIMS in Delhi for treatment, sources said. The 76-year-old leader has been admitted to the Cardio Critical Care Unit of the Cardio-Neuro Centre under Dr Rakesh Yadav, Professor of Cardiology at AIIMS, they said. A team of doctors is monitoring his condition, the sources said. He was brought to AIIMS for treatment at around 9.35 pm after being admitted to a hospital in Patna for a brief period. Talking to reporters in Patna, his son and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav said Prasad had developed sores on his back and an arm, which he hopes to get operated upon in Delhi. "Lalu ji had reached the airport in the afternoon to board his flight for Delhi. My mother Rabri Devi is accompanying him. A Jaguar fighter jet of the Indian Air Force has crashed in Gujarat's Jamnagar. One pilot has ejected and a search is on for the other.  "While one pilot safely ejected before the crash, another one is still missing. The aircraft caught fire after the crash landing. Police and firefighters have rushed to the spot and started searching for the missing pilot," news agency PTI quoted Superintendent of Police Premsukh Delu as saying.  Videos from the spot, in Suvarda village, 12 km from Jamnagar city, showed what appeared to be a field on fire with the cockpit of the crashed plane and its tail - which can be seen lying in different areas - also burning.  Indian Air Force (IAF) officials said the twin-seater Jaguar was on a routine training sortie when it crashed in.  The Jaguar is a twin-engine fighter bomber, with single and twin-seat variants, which is very widely used in the IAF. A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed before the Allahabad High Court's Lucknow bench on Wednesday seeking a directive to its Chief Justice to refrain from administering the oath to Justice Yashwant Varma, court sources said. The PIL cited the ongoing in-house inquiry ordered by the Chief Justice of India (CJI) into the recovery of "four to five semi-burnt sacks" of Indian currency notes from the residence of Justice Varma following after a fire incident last month. Justice Varma was recently transferred from the Delhi High Court to the Allahabad High Court in the midst of the cash stash row. The PIL, filed by Vikash Chaturvedi, is expected to be heard on April 4, the sources said. Advocate Ashok Pandey, representing Chaturvedi, argued that since the CJI has reportedly "directed the Allahabad High Court Chief Justice not to assign any judicial work to Justice Varma during the ongoing inquiry, there is no justification for proceeding with the oath ceremony...

The High Court of Karnataka has issued a strict directive to the state government to take necessary steps to suspend bike taxis within six weeks. Uber India Systems Pvt Ltd, ANI Technologies Pvt Ltd (Ola) and others have applied for directions to the state government to consider the applications filed in 2022 for converting two-wheelers into transport vehicles. All these applications have been filed by High Court Justice BM Shyam Prasad, who has dismissed them and issued a strict notice to Ola, Uber, and Rapido to halt the operations of their bike taxis. The High Court ruled that the state government could not issue permission in this regard. During the hearing of the petitions, the court noted that Ola, Uber, and Rapido were managing bike taxis based on an interim order issued by the court. Comedian Kunal Kamra, who recently faced legal trouble over a joke directed at Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, has been granted transit anticipatory bail by the District Munsif-cum-Judicial Magistrate Court in Vanur, Tamil Nadu. Kunal Kamra had approached the Madras High Court on Tuesday, seeking transit anticipatory bail, which provides temporary protection from arrest in a jurisdiction different from where the FIR has been filed. In his case, the FIR was lodged by Khar Police in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The Madras High Court, in an earlier hearing, had granted Kunal Kamra interim protection from arrest till April 7. Justice Sundar Mohan directed the comedian to appear before the Vanur court to formally secure his bail. Following this direction, the Vanur court granted the requested relief. कर्ज में डूबी टेलीकॉम कंपनी वोडाफोन-आइडिया को सरकार ने बड़ी राहत दी है. सरकार कंपनी पर स्पेक्ट्रम नीलामी का बकाया 36,950 करोड़ रुपए इक्विटी में बदलेगी. जिससे वोडाफोन आइडिया में सरकार की हिस्सेदारी 22.6 प्रतिशत से बढ़कर 48.99 प्रतिशत हो जाएगी. कंपनी ने रविवार को यह जानकारी दी. सरकार वर्तमान में 22.6 प्रतिशत हिस्सेदारी के साथ कर्ज में डूबी वोडाफोन आइडिया में पहले से ही सबसे बड़ी शेयरधारक है. अब उसका शेयर आधे के करीब हो जाएगा.  शेयर बाजार को दी सूचना में कंपनी ने बताया वोडाफोन आइडिया लिमिटेड (VIL) ने शेयर बाजार को सरकार की तरफ से अतिरिक्त हिस्सेदारी लेने की सूचना दी. कंपनी ने कहा, 'दूरसंचार क्षेत्र के लिए सितंबर 2021 में घोषित सुधार और समर्थन पैकेज के अनुरूप स्पेक्ट्रम नीलामी राशि बकाया है. इसमें स्थगन अवधि खत्म होने के बाद चुकाए जाने वाले बकाए भी शामिल हैं. संचार मंत्रालय ने बकाए को भारत सरकार को जारी किए जाने वाले इक्विटी शेयरों में बदलने का फैसला किया है. इक्विटी शेयरों में परिवर्तित की जाने वाली कुल राशि 36,950 करोड़ रुपये है.' सेबी का आदेश मिलने के बाद जारी होंगे इक्विटी ...
