An orthodox church priest was arrested for allegedly molesting a 15-year-old girl in Muvattupuzha, police said on Friday. According to the press statement issued by Ernakulam Rural Police, an orthodox church priest Shemavoon Ramba, a native of Pathanamthitta and aged 77 years was arrested for allegedly molesting a 15-year-old girl in Muvattupuzha. The priest has been removed from official duties after the alleged incident, the police said. "The incident happened on April 3. As per the complaint received by the police, the priest allegedly molested the minor girl in the church. The police registered a case based on the girl's complaint," reads the statement. The priest has been charged under the POCSO act, the police said. The police said, "The priest was called to the police station this morning and arrested. A group of more than 1,800 scientists, science teachers and educators has written an open letter raising concerns about the chapter on "Theory of Biological Evolution" being dropped from the NCERT textbook for Class 10. The signatories to the letter include scientists from noted institutions such as the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) and IITs, among others. As part of its curriculum rationalisation exercise, the NCERT had last year announced that the chapter "Heredity and Evolution" will be replaced with "Heredity" in the Class 10 science textbook. Among the topics dropped from the chapter are 'Evolution', 'Acquired and Inherited Traits', 'Tracing Evolutionary Relationships', 'Fossils', 'Evolution by Stages', 'Evolution Should Not Be Equated With Progress' and 'Human Evolution'. NCP president Sharad Pawar on Friday termed the acquittal of all 67 accused in the 2002 Naroda Gam riot case as the "murder of rule of law and the Constitution." All schools affiliated to the state board in Maharashtra will remain closed from Friday in view of the heat wave conditions, the government said. Schools of other boards can take decision about closure after considering their curriculum and activities, said the order issued by the School Education Department on Thursday. Except for Vidarbha, schools in the state will reopen on June 15. Those in Vidarbha will restart from June 30, the order said. At least 14 persons died due to heat stroke after attending the Maharashtra Bhushan award ceremony in Navi Mumbai on April 16.
