India Has 21 Judges Per Million Population: Centre

India has approximately 21 judges per million population, the government said in Rajya Sabha on Thursday, citing the sanctioned strength of the judiciary and census figures of 2011.

In a written reply to a question, Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said for calculating the judge-population ratio for per million population in a particular year, the Department of Justice uses the criterion of using the population as per Census 2011 and as per available information regarding sanctioned strength of judges in the Supreme Court, high courts and district and subordinate courts in the particular year.

Based on the population as per the Census 2011 which was 1210.19 million and as per available information regarding sanctioned strength of judges in the Supreme Court, high courts and district and subordinate courts in the year 2023, the judge-population ratio in the country works out to be approximately 21 judges per million population, he said.

Girl, 16, Raped In Gurugram Hotel By 'Instagram Friend': Cops

A 16-year-old Class 11 student was allegedly raped by her "Instagram friend" in a hotel here, police said on Wednesday.

The matter came to light when the accused sent a nude picture of the girl to her mother and also posted it on social media.

According to the complaint filed by the mother of the victim, her daughter had befriended a native of Uttar Pradesh last year on Instagram and also engaged in a nude video call during their friendship.

The mother told police that the accused called her daughter to a hotel in Gurugram and raped her there.

"He again called her to the hotel two more times last week. He was pressuring my daughter to meet him by threatening to share her nude video and pictures online.

"On Tuesday, he posted a nude picture of my daughter on social media and also sent it to me. When I asked my daughter, she told me about the entire episode," she said in her complaint, according to police.

Following the complaint, an FIR was registered against Raj Diwedi under sections 8 (sexual assault) and 12 (sexual harassment) of POCSO Act, section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC, and section 67 A of IT Act at Women Police Station (West) on Tuesday evening.

"An FIR has been registered and we are conducting raids to nab the accused. He too is reported to be a student," said Inspector Poonam Singh, SHO, Women Police Station (West).

व्हाइट हाउस के अनुसार, बाइडेन की समस्या एक दशक पहले, जब वह बराक ओबामा के अधीन वाइस प्रेसिडेंट थे, के दौर के दस्तावेजों को एकत्रित करके रखने में हुईं गलतियां अपेक्षाकृत कम हैं. इसके विपरीत ट्रम्प ने 2021 में व्हाइट हाउस छोड़ने के बाद सैकड़ों क्लासीफाइड डॉक्यूमेंट सौंपने का विरोध किया था.बाइडेन का कहना है कि उन्होंने वाशिंगटन में एक थिंक टैंक में इस्तेमाल किए गए एक पूर्व कार्यालय में चंद क्लासीफाइड डॉक्यूमेंट की तलाश के दौरान अधिकारियों के साथ सहयोग किया है.

Cocaine Worth Rs 33.60 Crore Hidden In Soap Boxes Seized At Mumbai Airport

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Wednesday seized 3.36 kg cocaine valued at Rs 33.60 crore concealed beneath the wax layer of soaps in 16 small soap boxes from an Indian passenger who landed at the Mumbai international airport from Addis Ababa, an official said.

He said the DRI acted on specific intelligence that an Indian national is arriving in Mumbai on an Ethiopian Airlines flight with a narcotic substance.

"The DRI intercepted the passenger for examination of his luggage. 16 small soap boxes were recovered. Officers observed that something is concealed beneath the wax layer of the soaps," a DRI release said.

Upon the removal of the wax layer, officials found a soap bar wrapped in transparent plastic. On scratching the soap cake, a powdery substance was found concealed. The substance tested positive for cocaine, it said.

The passenger has been arrested under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and is being interrogated, the DRI added.

मौसम विभाग ने फरवरी में उत्तर-पश्चिम भारत में सामान्य बारिश की जताई उम्मीद

भारत मौसम विज्ञान विभाग (IMD) ने बुधवार को कहा कि उत्तर-पश्चिम भारत में फरवरी में ‘‘सामान्य बारिश'' होने की संभावना है जबकि क्षेत्र में शीतलहर चलने की संभावना कम है.आईएमडी ने कहा कि पूर्वोत्तर और इससे सटे पूर्वी हिस्से को छोड़कर देश के अधिकांश हिस्सों में न्यूनतम तापमान सामान्य से लेकर सामान्य से नीचे रहने की संभावना है. आईएमडी के महानिदेशक एम. मोहापात्रा ने कहा कि फरवरी के दौरान प्रायद्वीपीय भारत के अधिकांश हिस्सों में अधिकतम तापमान सामान्य से नीचे रहने की संभावना है.

महानिदेशक ने प्रेस वार्ता के दौरान कहा कि उत्तर-पश्चिम भारत में इस साल फरवरी की बारिश का औसत सामान्य रहने की संभावना है. उन्होंने कहा कि फरवरी में शीतलहर चलने की संभावना भी बेहद कम है.उन्होंने कहा कि पूर्वी और पूर्वोत्तर भारत के अधिकांश हिस्सों, पूर्व-मध्य भारत और उत्तर-पश्चिम और पश्चिम-मध्य भारत के कुछ हिस्सों में अधिकतम तापमान सामान्य से अधिक रहने का अनुमान है. मोहापात्रा ने कहा, ‘‘पूर्वानुमान है कि फरवरी के दौरान, प्रायद्वीपीय भारत के अधिकांश हिस्सों और मध्य भारत के कुछ हिस्सों में अधिकतम तापमान सामान्य से कम रहने की संभावना है.''

Russian Tourist Arrested In Goa For Using Banned Satellite Phone: Cops

Goa police on Tuesday arrested a 38-year-old female Russian tourist for using a banned satellite phone, a senior official said.

The Colva police in South Goa booked Aleksei Kamynin for possessing and using a satellite phone of make 'Thuraya' with a SIM card which is banned for usage in India, said the official.

The woman was taken into custody from a resort where she was staying, he said.

She has been booked under the Indian Wireless Telegraphy Act and Section 20 of the Indian Telegraph Act, while the device has been seized, he said.
