One More Detained Over Horrific Manipur Video: Cops

Manipur Police has arrested a sixth person in connection with the May 4 parading of two women naked in Kangpokpi district of the state, officials said on Saturday. Police said the arrested person is a juvenile. Police had made the first arrest on Thursday, a day after a 26-second video of the horrific incident surfaced on July 19. Three more arrests were made later that day. The fifth accused, 19-year-old youth, was arrested on Saturday. One of the women seen in the video is the wife of an ex-army man, who served as a subedar in the Assam Regiment and had even fought in the Kargil War.  More than 160 people have lost their lives, and several have been injured since ethnic violence broke out in the state on May 3, when a 'Tribal Solidarity March' was organised in the hill districts to protest against the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status. मेरठ के सरधना कोतवाली में शॉर्ट सर्किट से लगी भीषण आग, चार सिपाही झुलसे

मेरठ के सरधना कोतवाली के अपराध निरीक्षण भवन में भीषण आग लग गई. आग लगने से थाने के चार सिपाही झुलस गए.आग लगने की सूचना के बाद दमकल की कई गाड़ियां मौके पर पहुंची हैं. पुलिस के मुताबिक, आग शॉर्ट सर्किट से लगी और उसके बाद आग तेजी से फैली. सरधना कोतवाली में लगी आग को कई किलोमीटर दूर से देखा जा सकता है. थाने से धुएं का गुबार निकलता भी नजर आया.  आग की चपेट में आने से कांस्टेबल केशव अत्री और हेड कांस्टेबल सुमित राजोरा गंभीर रूप से झुलस गए हैं. वहीं आग बुझाने के दौरान थाने के ही मुंशी हेमेंद्र और एक अन्‍य सिपाही भी झुलस गए. पुलिस के मुताबिक, सबसे पहले स्विच बोर्ड में शॉर्ट सर्किट से आग लगी. बरामदे में मैस है, जहां पर खाना बनाया जा रहा था और वहां पर सिलेंडर थे. उन्‍होंने बताया कि सिलेंडर के पाइप ने आग पकड़ ली. इसके चलते सिलेंडर फट गया और जोरदार धमाका हुआ. देखते ही देखते आग अचानक से पूरे बरामदे और अन्‍य कमरों में फैल गई. उन्‍होंने बताया कि मालखाने में भी आग लगी है. आग पर काबू पा लिया गया है. आग से कितना नुकसान हुआ है इस बारे में अब पता लगाया जाएगा.  पुलिस के मुताबिक, गं...

Foreign-Made Watches Worth Rs 30 Crore Seized In Kolkata, 1 Arrested

The Mumbai zonal unit of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized smuggled high-end watches worth more than Rs 30 crore from the residence of a Kolkata-based man, officials said on Saturday. Acting of a tip-off, the man was intercepted at the Kolkata airport last week after he arrived from Singapore, and a very expensive Greubel Forsey watch which he had not declared before the customs authorities was seized, A DRI release said here. While the man was arrested under the Customs Act, his house in an upscale residential complex in Kolkata was searched by officers of the DRI, Mumbai Zonal Unit, it said. As many as 34 watches of premium foreign brands including Greubel Forsey, Purnell, Louis Vuitton, MB and F, Mad, Rolex, Audemars Piguet and Richard Mille were recovered from the house, the release added. Following the viral video of women being paraded naked in Manipur, National Commission for Women chief Rekha Sharma on Friday said that there were several complaints from people outside the country and Manipur. "Historic Decision": Top Education Official On CBSE's Indian Languages Move

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has asked its schools to consider using Indian languages as optional medium of instruction to make multilingual education a reality. Schools affiliated to the CBSE has now an option of teaching in regional languages from pre-primary to Class 12. Till now, CBSE schools could teach only either in English or Hindi, unlike state board schools that can teach in English, Hindi or a state language. The CBSE's announcement is in line with the government's push for the National Education Policy (NEP). The University Grants Commission (UGC) had recently come up with a similar circular for higher education. Mamata Banerjee Announces Rural Jobs Scheme, Names It 'Khela Hobe'

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday announced that her government is planning a scheme to provide work to the poor in line with MGNREGA, the funds for which she claimed were stopped by the Centre. Addressing a rally in Kolkata, Ms Banerjee said the scheme will be named 'Khela Hobe' (Game On) -- the slogan of her party TMC during the 2021 assembly elections. "Despite being the best-performing state in the MNREGA scheme, the Centre has stopped funds out of sheer jealousy and vendetta politics. We will take our fight to Delhi, and on October 2, which is Gandhi Jayanti, we will hold a dharna in Delhi to press for our demands," she said.
