मुंबई के जोगेश्वरी में एक निर्माणाधीन इमारत से शनिवार शाम ऑटोरिक्शा पर लोहे की छड़ गिरने से 28 वर्षीय एक महिला और नौ वर्षीय एक लड़की की मौत हो गई. एक अधिकारी ने यह जानकारी दी है. उन्होंने बताया कि घटना वेस्टर्न एक्सप्रेस हाईवे पर शल्य अस्पताल के पास शाम करीब पांच बजे हुई.  वहीं, पिछले महीने वर्ली इलाके में एक सीमेंट ब्लॉक की चपेट में आने से दो लोगों की मौत हो गई थी, जो एक निर्माणाधीन इमारत से गिरा था. बृहन्मुंबई नगर निगम (बीएमसी) के एक अधिकारी ने कहा कि जिस निर्माणाधीन इमारत में ताजा दुर्घटना हुई, वह झुग्गी पुनर्वास प्राधिकरण (एसआरए) परियोजना थी. उन्होंने कहा कि 14 मंजिला इमारत के सातवीं मंजिल से लोहे की छड़ गिरी है. रिक्शा में यात्रा कर रहे शमा बानो आसिफ शेख (28) और आयत आसिफ शेख छड़ गिरने से घायल हो गए, जिसमें वे यात्रा कर रहे थे. अधिकारी ने कहा कि एक राहगीर द्वारा सिविक हेल्पलाइन को सूचित करने के बाद उन्हें पहले नजदीकी ट्रॉमा केयर अस्पताल ले जाया गया. अस्पताल में डॉक्टरों ने महिला को मृत घोषित कर दिया, जबकि लड़की को अंधेरी के कोकिलाबेन अस्पताल ले जाया गया. लेकिन कोकिलाबेन अस्पत...

Police have arrested 8 persons for allegedly killing an inmate of a private drug rehabilitation centre by beating him and pouring molten plastic on his private parts and then hurriedly cremating the body in Gujarat's Patan town, an official said on Saturday. Hardik Suthar (25) was murdered on February 17 and the accused, including the centre's manager, burnt the body at a cremation ground the same night by claiming his death to be natural in a phone call to his uncle, said Deputy Superintendent of Police KK Pandya. The crime came to light after police worked on a tip-off and went through the footage of CCTV cameras installed at the facility – Jayona de-addiction centre – and the locality. Sri Lanka has used over USD 10 million from India's assistance of USD 1 billion to print nearly half of the textbooks for its four million young students, the Indian High Commission in Colmbo said on Saturday. India announced a USD 1 billion line of credit to Sri Lanka last year as part of its financial assistance to help the country deal with its economic crisis. After an agreement to extend the line of credit was inked, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi had said India has always stood with the people of Sri Lanka and will continue to extend all possible support to the country. “A concessional credit facility of USD 1 billion was extended to the Government of Sri Lanka by the Government of India in March 2022 for supply of essential items including food, fuel, medicines, industrial raw materials. Days after the siege of the Ajnala police station by supporters of a pro-Khalistan preacher, the state government on Friday asked “enemies of Punjab” to fall in line or be destroyed. The warning was delivered by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema during his Budget speech in the state assembly. In its first full budget, the Aam Aadmi Party government has allocated Rs 10,523 crore for maintaining law and order -- up 11 per cent from the previous year. “Some evil forces are always looking for opportunities to disturb peace and order in our border state,” Mr Cheema said, adding that such attempts in the past were thwarted by “our brave police forces”. “I, on behalf of my government warn the enemies of Punjab to fall in line else our government shall destroy them from the root,” he said.
