Rahul Gandhi To Launch 'White T-shirt Movement', Seeks Youth Participation

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Sunday made a fervent appeal to the youth of Bihar to participate in the White T-Shirt movement, beginning Monday, in huge numbers to send across a strong message that people of the state won't get swayed away anymore and they are ready to write their own destiny.

The Leader of Opposition issued a video appeal on his social media account, seeking success of the White T-shirt movement in Bihar, ahead of his visit to Bihar's Begusarai district on April 7.

बिहार के युवा साथियों, मैं 7 अप्रैल को बेगूसराय आ रहा हूं, पलायन रोको, नौकरी दो यात्रा में आपके साथ कंधे से कंधा मिलाकर चलने।

"The Stop Migration, Give Jobs Yatra will give the world a glimpse of your struggle, suffering and also the sentiments of Bihar's youth," he said in the video message and urged them to 'show their strength'.

"This message is for every resident of Bihar. I will visit Begusarai on April 7. I will walk shoulder to shoulder with you and raise your voice on issues of inflation, unemployment, privatisation, paper leaks and all other issues that adversely affect you and your families," he said in the video.

The purpose of the 'Palayan Yatra' is to mobilise the energy of youth to build a new Bihar and make it a land of fresh opportunities.

"Bihar youth won't be misled now or bow down before anyone. They will move together and build a new future for themselves," he said while appealing youth to share the video among their circles.

Rahul's visit to Bihar, where Assembly elections are slated later this year, comes days after the Congress party declared new district presidents in the state. AICC appointed new presidents and working presidents in all 40 organisational districts of Bihar last week.

During his visit, Mr Gandhi is also expected to review the party's poll strategy with all new district heads and draw a roadmap for upcoming elections.

Meanwhile, the BJP has objected sharply to Congress MP's visit to Bihar and said that this will end in another fiasco for the party.

"Rahul Gandhi has drowned the entire Congress ship. He will do the same in Bihar too. Wherever he goes, Congress sinks. Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Delhi are some examples. I thank Rahul Gandhi for sinking the Congress ship and wasting his youth in doing so. He has turned into a 55-year-old youth now. He will sink Congress in Bihar too," BJP state chief Dilip Jaiswal said mockingly, while speaking to IANS.

Massive Rabies Outbreak In Manipur, Three Dead, Hundreds Affected

Multiple cases of rabies have been reported from Manipur's Churachandpur, after which authorities have put restrictions in place and declared containment zones.

The cases of rabies started surfacing since last week and New Zouveng village in Churachandpur district has been declared a containment zone.

Since January, 749 people have been bitten by dogs and 3 persons, according to official sources, have died due to rabies.

Multiple confirmed and suspected cases of rabies have now been reported from New Zoveng village, posing a serious threat to the health and safety of the people and animals, sources said.

District Magistrate Dharun Kumar has strictly prohibited the movement of "domesticated pets/dogs in and out of the village".

He also directed the identification and vaccination of all pet and stray dogs in the village.

Surveillance, door-to-door monitoring, and health check-ups will be conducted. The sale and transport of domestic dogs are strictly banned during the containment period, he added.

Any person found violating the order will be liable for penal action, the order said.

Quick Response Teams constituted by the Veterinary department carried out surveys at the New Zouveng village.

During the drive, about 30 households have been surveyed.

The survey teams have vaccinated all the dogs owned by the households and provided them with a certificates.

District Veterinary Officer, Dr Veithienneng, has said insufficient supply of vaccine is the biggest challenge in tackling the outbreak.

Every year, rabies claims over 60,000 lives globally, with India alone accounting for nearly 36 percent of those deaths, according to the UNDP (United Nations Development Programme).

India-US Joint Training Exercise 'Tiger Triumph' Boosts Military Cooperation

In a significant demonstration of India-US military cooperation, troops from both nations conducted an intensive joint training phase at the Duvvada Firing Range from April 2 to April 4 as part of Exercise Tiger Triumph 2025.

According to a release, the exercise reaffirmed the growing synergy between the two militaries, enhancing interoperability, tactical coordination and operational preparedness in combat and humanitarian assistance scenarios.

The release noted that the training began with a joint opening address by the commanding officers of both contingents, setting the tone for a collaborative and high-impact engagement.

This was followed by an introduction from the Commanding Officer of the 8 Gorkha Rifles Infantry Battalion Group, which represented the Amphibious Brigade of the Bison Division under the Sudarshan Chakra Corps.

The US Army contingent, comprising personnel from the 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment ("Bobcats") and the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 11th Infantry Division ("Arctic Wolves"), received insights into Indian Army training methodologies and the objectives of this joint exercise.

As per the release, "A key highlight of the training was the participation of Rear Admiral Greg Newkirk, USN, who, along with the Commanding Officer of the 8 Gorkha Rifles Infantry Battalion Group, took part in live-firing drills and Jungle Lane Shooting exercises. Their direct involvement underscored the emphasis on hands-on leadership and practical engagement in operational training. The event also saw participation from senior officers from HQ Eastern Naval Command and HQ Integrated Defence Staff (IDS), further strengthening the high-level commitment to bilateral defense cooperation."

The release said, "The training phase covered small arms marksmanship and jungle warfare tactics, with Indian and US soldiers paired as buddy teams for live-firing drills from 100 meters, close-quarters combat shooting at 50 meters and Jungle Lane Shooting exercises designed to simulate engagements in dense terrain. Additionally, troops underwent Integrated Field Craft (IFC) training, focusing on obstacle navigation, tactical movement and terrain-based combat techniques--essential skills for real-world operations. The Combat Medical Aid module provided crucial training in battlefield first aid and casualty evacuation procedures, ensuring rapid and efficient medical response in crisis situations."

According to the release, the joint training at Duvvada Firing Range further solidified India-US military ties, fostering mutual respect, trust and camaraderie between troops.

Tiger Triumph 2025 continued to reinforce the India-US strategic partnership, enhancing their combined ability to respond to regional security challenges and humanitarian crises in the Indian Ocean Region.

Agra Man Allegedly Harasses Czech Tourist At Taj Mahal, Arrested

A man was arrested for allegedly harassing and touching inappropriately a tourist from the Czech Republic visiting the Taj Mahal, police said on Sunday.

The alleged incident occurred on April 3 and the arrest was made after a thorough investigation, they said.

In a written complaint at the Tourist police station, the woman alleged that she was "touched inappropriately and harassed" while walking along the Shamshan Ghat Road around 1 pm, they added.

The police registered a case and began a probe, deploying multiple teams to arrest the accused.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Taj Security) Syed Areeb Ahmed said, "A case was registered on the complaint of the foreign woman. Several teams were deployed to search for the accused. (Footage from) several CCTV cameras covering the area was scanned. After investigation, the accused Karan Rathore was arrested on Sunday."

The woman has identified Rathore as the accused and he has been taken into custody, the officer said.

17-Year-Old Dies By Suicide At Mall In Mohali, Jumps From 4th Floor

A 17-year-old boy has died by suicide after jumping from the fourth floor of a popular mall in Mohali.

Videos show the boy, identified as Abhijeet, pacing near a glass railing on the fourth floor of Bestech Square Mall, at 9.14 am on Saturday. He walks up to the railing twice, stopping once and changing direction the second time, before walking towards it faster at 9.19 am, climbing it and jumping. 

A senior police official said, "We got a call around 9.30 am that a boy who appeared to be around 17-18 years old has attempted suicide by jumping from the fourth floor of the Bestech mall. Our team reached the spot within five to eight minutes and he was rushed to a hospital. We were informed by the hospital a few hours later that he has died."

The official said Abhijeet's father told them that he had been depressed. Abhijeet was a middle child and had an older as well as a younger brother. 

Asked what the boy was doing at the mall that early in the morning, the official said, "The food court and the multiplex at the mall open early. Staff at the mall told us he had purchased a bottle of water."

"No Mosques Will Be Touched": BJP's Ravi Shankar Prasad On Waqf Bill

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, which has been cleared by both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha after heated, marathon debates, will benefit women from the Muslim community and ensure transparency, BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad has said. 

In an exclusive conversation with NDTV on Friday, the former law minister insisted that no mosque, place of worship or 'kabrastan' (graveyard) is going to be touched. 

"The issue is very simple and straight. Whether the intention of the 'Waqif' who created the Waqf for noble purposes is being executed properly by the 'Muttawali', who is the manager, or not. A Waqf is not a religious body at all. It is a legal or a statutory body... The 'Muttawali' is just a superintendent or a manager. He does not have any rights over the property, because once a Waqf has been created, the property vests in Allah, peace be on him," Mr Prasad said, adding that the Bill will empower Muslim women and help widows and the marginalised from the community.  

The senior BJP leader pointed out that areas near the Dak Bungalow locality in Patna  - the city he is from - have a lot of Waqf land but five-star hotels and showrooms have come up there. He also said India has the highest number of Waqf properties in the world and asked how many hospitals, universities and training centres have been built there. 

"Is the manager using the property the way the person who dedicated it intended or is he stuffing his pockets? That is the question. And a drama is being created over this... Let me tell you, people from my state and the entire country are going to appreciate (this Bill). People were dismayed to learn that so much property is being misused," he said. 

Transparency

Mr Prasad asserted that the bill will help bring transparency by making Waqf boards accountable. 

"The entire thing is being made accountable, everything will be available online, digitisation will happen, you can see which property is where, who is the Muttawali, what use is the particular property being put to in terms of the intention of the 'Waqif (the person dedicating the property). So, all these things are very transparent now," he said. 

Backlash expected?

To a question on whether the government is fearing some kind of backlash from the Muslim community and the possible impact the passage of the Bill would have on Nitish Kumar, who enjoys support among them, ahead of the Bihar Assembly polls later this year, Mr Prasad said the queries around Mr Kumar have been asked since he allied with the BJP in 1996.

Pointing to the protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, the BJP leader said the citizenship of not even one Muslim has been taken away. 

"But the larger issue is we were two in 1984, just two (the BJP had two seats) in the 1984 Lok Sabha. Where are we today? Ruling the country, in more than 21 states of the country. Nitish Kumar ji, our very proud colleague and friend, has been a chief minister for 19 years," he said.

The former law minister also insisted that India's polity has undergone a 'tectonic metamorphosis'.

"...whereas the nature of the argument is the same. Secular, communal, appeasement. The world has changed. India has changed. And I would say the young people of the minority community and the thinking community have also changed... And some people are trying to frustrate that change by the same logic of the 1990s and 1980s," he said.
