BSP Tamil Nadu Chief Hacked To Death By 6 Men On Bikes In Chennai

In a brazen attack, the Tamil Nadu chief of the Bahujan Samaj Party was hacked to death by six bike-borne men near his house in Chennai on Friday. 

The six men attacked Armstrong when he was having a discussion with a few party functionaries near his house in the city's Sembium area and then fled. The family rushed him to a hospital, but he was declared brought dead.

Police officials said this could be a revenge murder, linked to the killing of a gangster, Arcot Suresh, last year. A senior police officer told NDTV, "We are conducting an investigation. The murder seems to be linked to an earlier killing." 

Some reports said the attackers posed as food delivery agents, but police are yet to confirm this.

The Sembium inspector of police has been tasked with cracking the case. 

The opposition has hit out at the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu and said the killing is evidence of the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. 

Leader of Opposition Edappadi Palaniswamy said, "What do I say when the state chief of a national party is murdered? The law and order is shameful. There is no fear of law or the police".

A lawyer, Armstrong was elected to the Chennai Corporation Council in 2006. He shot to fame after he organised a mega rally in Chennai two years ago and invited BSP chief Mayawati.

Assam Floods: 31 Wild Animals Dead, 82 Rescued In Kaziranga National Park

A total of 31 animals have died so far due to drowning, while 82 others have been rescued from flood waters in the worst deluge in recent years inside the famed Kaziranga National Park, a park official said on Thursday.

The animal mortality includes 23 hog deer due to drowning in the Park and 15 during treatment.

The forest officials rescued 73 hog deer, two otters, two sambar deer, a scops owl, one rhino calf, an Indian hare and a jungle cat.

Currently, 20 animals are under treatment, while 31 others have been released after treatment, the official said.

A total of 11 animals had died due to drowning, while 65 others were rescued from the flood waters of the severely affected park till Wednesday.

Meanwhile, a Royal Bengal Tiger strayed into a neighbouring village in the Nagaon district from the flooded park and forest officials were trying to tranquilise the animal.

Police personnel were deployed to prevent any untoward incident, and control the people as panic gripped the village area.

Two persons were arrested for allegedly consuming venison, likely deer which had strayed from the Northern range of the Park in the Biswanath district.

Out of the total 233 camps in the Eastern Assam Wildlife Division, 95 were still inundated till Thursday evening as against the 141 during the day, the official said.

Forest department employees, including security personnel, stay in these camps inside the national park to conduct patrolling to protect the flora and fauna.

In the Eastern or Agoratoli range, 12 of the 34 camps have been inundated, while 31 of the 58 camps in the central range, 33 out of the 39 in the Western or Bagori range, eight out of the 25 in Burapahar and three out of the nine in Bokakhat were under flood waters.

Altogether seven camps have been vacated by the forest personnel so far - two in the central range, three in Bokakhat, and one each in Biswanath and Nagaon wildlife divisions.

CA Among 3 Arrested For Fraudulent Take Over Of Insolvent Company

The ED said on Wednesday that it has arrested three persons including a chartered accountant and a resolution professional as part of a money laundering probe linked to an alleged bank loan fraud related to regaining control of an insolvent company from the NCLT.

Chartered accountant (CA) Rakesh Kumar Gulati, Ajay Yadav of resolution applicant firm Umaiza Infracon LLP and a person identified as Paramjeet were taken into custody on July 1 by the Gurugram zonal office of the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

A special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court sent them to ED custody till July 9, the agency said in a statement.

The case pertains to Sunstar Overseas Ltd (SOL), its ex-directors Rakesh Aggarwal, Rohit Aggarwal, Manik Aggarwal, Sumit Aggarwal and others.

The money laundering case stems from a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) FIR filed against the company and its former promoters on charges of fraud, criminal misappropriation, criminal breach of trust, cheating and causing wrongful loss of more than Rs 950 crore to a consortium of nine lender banks.

The ex-promoters, directors and key persons of the company, in connivance with each other as well as other related and unrelated entities, "illegally diverted" loan funds by way of sham trade transactions and by creating fictitious debtors, the ED alleged.

The total admitted claims against SOL was Rs 1,274.14 crore and the entity was taken over through corporate insolvency resolution process (CIRP) proceedings for only Rs 196 crore by a resolution applicant Umaiza Infracon LLP (of Ajay Yadav) which is a "shell" (dummy) entity as it does not have any funds of its own, the agency said.

"The funds for the said shell entity were arranged from the funds diverted from SOL through its former related/unrelated companies and firms and other persons on the instructions of the ex-directors and promoters (of SOL) and its CA Rakesh Gulati.

"Immediately after the NCLT order, SOL was taken over by a frontal company Shivakriti Agro Pvt. Ltd. (SAPL), actually controlled and operated by ex-directors/ promoters of SOL by instrument of a sham facility agreement," the ED said.

Shivakriti Agro Pvt Ltd has been controlled and managed by the ex-directors and promoters of SOL through Paramjeet and its other ex-employees.

"Rakesh Gulati, common CA of SOL and SAPL, and related entities are found to be involved in the conspiracy and diversion of loan funds to regain the actual control and business of an insolvent company from the national company law tribunal (NCLT)," the ED alleged.

Trinamool Notice To Bengal MLA For Supporting Public Flogging Of Couple

The ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal on Tuesday issued a show cause notice to its Chopra MLA Hamidul Rahman for making statements supporting the public flogging of a couple that rocked the state.

The incident that happened last week in Uttar Dinajpur district was caught on camera, and the video that showed a man flogging the couple in public sent shockwaves.

"The party has show-caused Rahman for his remarks and has sought an explanation from him. The party in no way supports the incident or the remarks made by him," a senior TMC leader said.

The man seen in the video thrashing the couple with a stick was identified as Tajmul alias 'JCB', purportedly a TMC leader of Chopra and a close associate of Rahman.

Reacting to the incident, Rahman on Monday said, "The couple was allegedly engaged in an illicit relationship, which is why they were flogged. They were socially polluting society through their activities."
 
"The woman was at fault for getting involved in an illicit relationship despite having a son and husband. Is this not a crime? Is this not an immoral act?" he added.

Will Be Proud If We Get Ability To Take PM To Space: ISRO Chief

It will be a "very proud" moment for the entire nation if we can fly Prime Minister Narendra Modi to space, Dr S Somanath, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation, has said.

However, he quickly added that he would wait for the much anticipated Gaganyaan Mission to be "ready, to be proven, to be qualified enough to do that."

In an exclusive interview with NDTV, Dr Somanath noted that ISRO was at a "critical juncture" with Gaganyaan this year and had three important missions scheduled.

A few months ago, Prashanth Nair, Angad Prathap, Ajit Krishnan, and Shubhanshu Shukla were chosen as the four test pilots of the Indian Air Force for the Gaganyaan mission. The human space flight mission will launch a crew of up to three members into a Low Earth Orbit.

Dr Somanath said he was "limited by the availability of the trained astronaut whom I can put in front of the possible candidates for this mission." 

"Any other candidate, including VIPs, for such missions cannot be considered at this moment because it is a highly skilled and trained operation which requires many years and months of preparation, and I believe that will be the guiding spirit in this case," he stated.

Asked whether he would be happy to accommodate Prime Minister Modi if he decided to go, Dr Somanath said, "Of course, I'll be very happy to do that, but then that's not the point here. He has much more responsible jobs to do I believe. But this is one of the capabilities that we would like to develop, that's human spaceflight capability, which we are in the process of gaining."

So, does he prefer that the Indian Prime Minister fly on when the Gaganyaan is ready to take him on an Indian vehicle to space?

The ISRO chief replied, "You said it right. See whenever such a thing has to happen, the Head of the State has to fly to the International Space Station or a space station of that station, it must be on our vehicle and from our land. I think I should say that only. So, I would wait for the Gaganyaan to be ready, to be proven, to be qualified enough to do that."

He added, "All of us will be very proud. Not only me, the entire nation will be proud if we have that ability to confidently send such a state man to space."

While talking about a launch date, Dr Somanath said that the first test flight of the Gaganyaan is scheduled for the end of next year "if all goes well." 

"But everything depends on the progress we are going to make," he added.

NDTV संवाददाता अनुराग द्वारी से बात करते हुए डॉ. यादव ने बताया कि एक नया कानून प्रस्तावित है, जिसमें पेपर लीक में शामिल लोगों के लिए 10 साल की कैद और एक करोड़ रुपये के जुर्माने का प्रावधान है. इसे गैर-जमानती अपराध की श्रेणी में रखा गया है. डॉ. यादव ने कहा, "बहुत जल्द एक प्रस्ताव आएगा कि 10 साल की कैद और सख्त कार्रवाई होगी. आज मैं विधानसभा के अंदर से लौटा हूं, हमने कई फैसले लिए हैं, जिनमें सख्त कार्रवाई की बात भी शामिल है."

कुलपति की परंपरा हमारी नहीं : डॉ. यादव

इसी साक्षात्कार में डॉ. यादव ने मध्य प्रदेश में कुलपतियों के लिए सांस्कृतिक रूप से महत्वपूर्ण नामों की शुरुआत पर चर्चा की. उन्होंने पारंपरिक प्रशासनिक उपाधियों से हटकर सांस्कृतिक विरासत से फिर से जुड़ने के महत्व पर जोर दिया. डॉ. यादव ने बताया, "हम संस्कृति से जुड़ने के लिए नए नाम लेकर आए हैं. भारत में हजारों सालों से कुल गुरु की परंपरा रही है, जबकि कुलपति की परंपरा हमारी नहीं है. इन शब्दों में आत्मीयता होनी चाहिए, इसलिए हमने अब कुलपति का विचार किया है."

बोरवेल सुरक्षा पर विधेयक पारित

बोरवेल में बच्चों के गिरने के मुद्दे पर बात करते हुए डॉ. यादव ने ऐसी दुर्घटनाओं को रोकने के उद्देश्य से बनाए गए नए कानून पर प्रकाश डाला. उन्होंने बोरवेल सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित करने में पंचायत अधिकारियों और निजी मालिकों की जवाबदेही पर जोर दिया. डॉ. यादव ने कहा, "अगर किसी का ट्यूबवेल खाली या खुला रहता है, चाहे वह पंचायत में हो या निजी, तो कार्रवाई की जाएगी. अगर ऐसा होता है, तो एफआईआर दर्ज की जाएगी और कार्रवाई की जाएगी. लापरवाही बर्दाश्त नहीं की जाएगी."

मंत्री अपना आयकर खुद भरेंगे : CM यादव 

मध्य प्रदेश सरकार द्वारा अपने मंत्रियों का आयकर चुकाने के बारे में एनडीटीवी की रिपोर्ट पर प्रतिक्रिया देते हुए डॉ. यादव ने कहा, "मुझे संतुष्टि है कि अब हमारे मंत्री अपना आयकर खुद भरेंगे. हम राजघराने के लोग नहीं हैं, हम चुने हुए लोग हैं. हम समाज के बीच से आते हैं और कर संग्रह का महत्व समझते हैं." उन्होंने कहा कि अब मंत्रीगण, जिनमें वे स्वयं भी शामिल हैं, अपना आयकर भरेंगे.

नर्सिंग घोटाले पर हंगामे पर प्रतिक्रिया

एनडीटीवी द्वारा उजागर नर्सिंग घोटाले पर सदन में कांग्रेस के हंगामे के बारे में डॉ. यादव ने कहा कि सरकार चर्चा और कानूनी प्रक्रियाओं के लिए तैयार है. उन्होंने कहा, "ऐसे कई विषय हैं जिन पर कुछ कानूनी समस्याएं हैं. हम नियमों और कानूनों के तहत किसी भी चर्चा के लिए हमेशा तैयार हैं." उन्‍होंने कहा, "विपक्ष को अच्छी तैयारी के साथ आना चाहिए और जनता के सामने अपना मुद्दा रखना चाहिए. अगर कोई गलती है तो हम उसे स्वीकार करेंगे, लेकिन बिना किसी गलती के हमें मजबूर करना ठीक नहीं है, सभी को अपनी मर्यादा में रहना चाहिए."

Bridge In Bihar's Thakurganj Sinks, Sixth In 10 Days

Another bridge in Bihar went out of commission today, making it the sixth  in 10 days. The bridge in Thakurganj block sunk by a feet today the water level of the Bund river increased following heavy rains. The surface of the bridge cracked, making it too risky to use.  

The bridge, located in Khoshi Dangi village of Patharia panchayat, was built in 2007-2008 from the MP fund of the then MP Md Tasleemuddin of Thakurganj. But today, it could not withstand the pressure of water.

This bridge connects areas under three to four panchayats and if it collapses completely, it would affect around 60,000 people.

Yesterday, an under-construction bridge in Madhubani region collapsed. Work on the bridge, built at a cost of Rs 3 crore by the Rural Works Department of the Bihar government, has been on since 2021.

Before that, bridge collapses were reported from Araria, Siwan, East Champaran and Kishanganj.

On Thursday last week, a bridge caved in at Kishanganj district. Before that, a bridge under construction collapsed in East Champaran district on June 23. On June 22, a bridge, built over the Gandak canal, collapsed in Siwan.  

The first case was reported on June 19, when a portion of an under-construction bridge collapsed in Araria district.

The frequent collapses have triggered conspiracy theories. "Why have bridges started to collapse only after the Lok Sabha elections?" questioned Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi.

"Why were such incidents not taking place 15 or 30 days before? Why have bridges started to collapse only after the Lok Sabha elections? Why are they collapsing now? Is there any conspiracy to defame the state government?" he added.
