Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar on Sunday alleged the inaction by the Maharashtra and Central governments on the Maratha quota issue has led to unrest in the community. Speaking at a function, Mr Pawar said the demand of Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange should be accepted without hurting the interests of other communities. The NCP chief said he had met Mr Jarange when he had observed a fast last month and understood the demands raised by him. Maharashtra and Central governments didn't take immediate decision on the Maratha quota issue which triggered unrest in the community, he alleged. "As a party too, our stand is clear. Jarange's demand should be met without hurting the interests of other communities. The need of the hour is to ensure that the quota demand is fulfilled in a proper way," Mr Pawar said. A 41-year-old Indian-origin man has been fined 20,000 Canadian dollars (USD 14,484) for causing immigration fraud by misrepresenting documents to help newcomers get permits to work in the Canadian province of Manitoba, according to a media report. Avtar Singh Sohi, who has been living in Canada since 2006 and is a father of two, pleaded guilty to misrepresentation under the Canada Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, CBC News reported on Monday. The Provincial Court of Manitoba on Monday heard that Sohi claimed that an Indian woman --who came to Canada on a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)-- was working for him as a nanny when she wasn't. LMIAs are issued after a need for a temporary foreign worker is demonstrated because there is no citizen or permanent resident available to do the job, the report said.
