Poll Body To Decide On J&K Assembly Elections, BJP Ready: Jitendra Singh

The BJP is always ready for elections and it is up to the Election Commission (EC) to decide when the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly polls will be held, Union minister Jitendra Singh said here on Saturday.

The Lok Sabha MP from Udhampur also said the situation in Jammu and Kashmir has improved a lot over the last few years.

"It is up to the EC to decide when the election will be conducted. As far as the BJP is concerned, it is always ready for every election -- whether it is the panchayat, Assembly or Parliament," Mr Singh told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.

The Union minister of state in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) also said "there have been no incidents of stone-pelting (in Jammu and Kashmir) for so many years now. Encounters do not take place while walking on the roads. The status of tourism is such that houseboats and hotels are full of tourists".

Jitendra Singh said Jammu and Kashmir has an important role to play in India's growth story as it emerges as a powerful country in the next 25 years, as envisaged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"The prime minister says India will emerge as a powerful nation in the world in the next 25 years and in that journey of development, Jammu and Kashmir has an important role to play," he said.

आपराधिक घटनाओं में हरदीप सिंह निज्जर की संलिप्तता की जानकारी होने पर भी कनाडा ने कार्रवाई नहीं की: सूत्र

खालिस्तानी अलगावादी नेता हरदीप सिंह निज्जर फर्जी पासपोर्ट का इस्तेमाल करके उत्तरी अमेरिकी देश पहुंचा और कनाडा ने उसके खिलाफ कोई कार्रवाई नहीं की, जबकि उसे यह बताया गया था कि वह हत्या और अन्य आतंकवादी मामलों समेत 12 से अधिक आपराधिक मामलों का सामना कर रहा है. सूत्रों ने शुक्रवार को यह जानकारी दी.

भारत और कनाडा के बीच निज्जर की हत्या को लेकर कूटनीतिक विवाद हो गया. जून में निज्जर की हत्या में भारतीय एजेंटों की ‘संभावित' संलिप्तता के कनाडाई प्रधानमंत्री जस्टिन ट्रूडो के आरोपों के बाद यह विवाद उत्पन्न हुआ.

सूत्रों ने बताया कि निज्जर की 18 जून को ब्रिटिश कोलंबिया के एक गुरुद्वारे की पार्किंग में अज्ञात हमलावरों ने हत्या कर दी थी. वह 1997 में रवि शर्मा के नाम से फर्जी पासपोर्ट का इस्तेमाल करके कनाडा गया था.

सूत्रों ने बताया कि उसने यह दावा करते हुए कनाडा में शरण के लिए आवेदन किया था कि उसे भारत में उत्पीड़न का डर है क्योंकि वह ‘‘एक विशेष सामाजिक समूह'' से हैं. निज्जर के इस आवेदन को हालांकि अस्वीकार कर दिया गया था.

सूत्रों ने बताया कि उसका दावा खारिज होने के ग्यारह दिन बाद, उसने एक महिला के साथ ‘‘विवाह''किया, जिसने उसके अप्रवासन में मदद की थी.

इस आवेदन को कनाडा में आव्रजन अधिकारियों ने भी खारिज कर दिया था. निज्जर ने इसके खिलाफ कनाडा की अदालतों में अपील की, हालांकि वह खुद को कनाडा का नागरिक होने का दावा करता रहा. बाद में उसे कनाडाई नागरिकता प्रदान की गई, जिसकी परिस्थितियां स्पष्ट नहीं हैं. नवंबर 2014 में उसके खिलाफ ‘इंटरपोल रेड कॉर्नर नोटिस' (आरसीएन) जारी किया गया था.

सूत्रों ने बताया कि निज्जर के खिलाफ भारत में हत्या और अन्य आतंकवादी गतिविधियों के 12 से अधिक आपराधिक मामले दर्ज थे. सूत्रों ने बताया कि मामलों का विवरण कनाडाई अधिकारियों के साथ साझा किया गया था लेकिन कोई कार्रवाई नहीं की गई.

सूत्रों ने बताया कि इसके अलावा, आरसीएन के बावजूद कनाडाई अधिकारियों ने उसे उड़ान निषिद्ध सूची में डालने के अलावा कोई कार्रवाई नहीं की. जून में निज्जर की हत्या में भारतीय एजेंटों की ‘संभावित' संलिप्तता के कनाडाई प्रधानमंत्री जस्टिन ट्रूडो के आरोपों के बाद यह विवाद उत्पन्न हुआ.

भारत ने मंगलवार को इन आरोपों को ‘बेतुका' और ‘प्रेरित' बताते हुए खारिज कर दिया था और इस मामले को लेकर कनाडा द्वारा एक भारतीय अधिकारी को निष्कासित किए जाने के बदले में कनाडा के एक वरिष्ठ राजनयिक को निष्कासित कर दिया था.

भारत ने बुधवार को और कड़ा रुख अपनाते हुए कनाडा में बढ़ती भारत विरोधी गतिविधियों और राजनीतिक रूप से समर्थित घृणा अपराधों और आपराधिक हिंसा को देखते हुए वहां रह रहे अपने नागरिकों और वहां की यात्रा का विचार कर रहे अपने नागरिकों को ‘‘अत्यधिक सावधानी'' बरतने का परामर्श जारी किया था.

भारत ने कनाडा स्थित अपने उच्चायोग और वाणिज्य दूतावासों के समक्ष उत्पन्न ‘सुरक्षा खतरों' के मद्देनजर कनाडाई नागरिकों को वीजा जारी करने पर अस्थायी रूप से रोक लगाने की बृहस्पतिवार को घोषणा की थी.

Pay Credit Suisse $1 Million Monthly For 6 Months: Court To SpiceJet

The Supreme Court on Friday asked low cost airline SpiceJet to pay USD 1 million per month for six months to global investment bank and financial services firm Credit Suisse AG towards repayment of dues.

The airline is already paying USD 0.5 million as monthly instalment to the Swiss firm.

The court's direction followed a request by senior advocate Kapil Sibal to a bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Ahsanuddin Amanullah to allow the airline to pay USD 1 million per month in order to clear part of the arrears in six months. The court said the airline can resume paying USD 0.5 million to the Swiss firm from the seventh month.

The bench posted the matter for further hearing on October 20.

SpiceJet in its statement said, "The Supreme Court has noted our compliance with its previous orders and agreed with our proposal to pay the USD 3 million arrears over the next 6 months. This is a positive outcome for the company and our stakeholders, and we are grateful to the Court for its understanding. We are committed to paying our dues in full and on time. We remain fully committed to upholding the highest standards of compliance and look forward to continuing our positive engagement with all stakeholders."

The top court had on September 11 warned SpiceJet of consequences if it did not clear its dues and directed it to pay USD 1.5 million by September 15.

According to the Swiss firm, SpiceJet had availed the services of SR Technics, Switzerland, for maintenance, repair, and overhaul of aircraft engines, modules, components, assemblies, and parts which were mandatory for its operations.

An agreement for such services was entered into between SpiceJet and SR Technics on November 24, 2011 for 10 years. The terms of payments were also agreed upon.

SR Technics had given Credit Suisse the right to receive payments from SpiceJet for the services.

The court had on July 25 given additional time to SpiceJet to make the payment to Credit Suisse as per the consent terms agreed upon by the two parties.

The top court was hearing a plea by the Swiss firm seeking initiation of contempt proceedings against Singh and SpiceJet over "a wilful and intentional disobedience" of court orders and failure to pay dues as per a settlement between the two sides.

On August 14, the bench, while issuing contempt notices to SpiceJet Chairman Ajay Singh and SpiceJet, had noted the submission of the Swiss firm that the court had granted indulgence and withdrawn the airline from liquidation only in view of the consent terms dated May 23, 2022 by which USD 500,000 was to be paid every month by the low cost carrier to the company from July 15, 2020.

"It was submitted that, though as of now more than 6.5 million US dollars has to be deposited, but only a little over 2 million US dollars has been deposited," the bench had noted the submission of counsel appearing for Credit Suisse in its August 14 order.

SpiceJet and Credit Suisse had told the Supreme Court on August 18, 2022 about the resolution of their financial dispute which led to the withdrawal of an appeal by the low-cost airline against a Madras High Court order for its winding up due to alleged non-payment of dues to the Swiss firm.

"There is a settlement which has taken place on May 23, 2022, as per the consent terms. In view of it, both the parties are satisfied with the settlement and want to withdraw the SLP (special leave petition) filed by the petitioner.

"Accordingly, the application is allowed," the top court had said in its order.

On the appeal of SpiceJet, the top court had on January 28, 2022 stayed the publication of the winding up notice and the order directing the official liquidator attached to the Madras High Court to take over the assets of the airline.

It had also asked SpiceJet to resolve the financial dispute with the Swiss firm.

PM Face For INDIA Bloc To Be Decided After Coming To Power: Sitaram Yechury

CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Thursday said that the prime ministerial face for the opposition bloc INDIA would be decided after the alliance comes to power in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Talking to reporters in Bihar's Rajgir in Nalanda district, Mr Yechury said it is not an appropriate question to ask now who will be the PM face for the INDIA alliance.

The alliance INDIA, of which the CPI(M) is a constituent, was formed with a view to preventing the division of anti-BJP votes in the parliamentary elections in 2024.

"All alliance partners of the INDIA will decide on the prime minister after winning the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Elected MPs from the coalition will elect the prime minister," he said.

The question about the prime ministerial face was raised before the 2004 parliamentary polls.

"What happened in the 2004 Lok Sabha polls? The UPA came to power and Manmohan Singh became the PM and he remained PM for 10 years", said Mr Yechury.

Later, Mr Yechury attended the valedictory session of the CPI(M)'s state-level training camp.

"In the midst of heavy rain, urging the people of Rajgir, Nalanda (Bihar) in the CPI(M) organised public meeting to join the battle to save India today in order to change it for the better by emphatically defeating the BJP & ensuring INDIA wins all 40 seats in the state," he posted on X, formerly Twitter.

संसद के विशेष सत्र के तीसरे दिन बुधवार को लोकसभा (Loksabha) में लंबी बहस के बाद 'महिला आरक्षण बिल' (Women's Reservation Bill) पास हो गया. महिला आरक्षण विधेयक (नारी शक्ति वंदन अधिनियम) के पक्ष में 454 वोट पड़े. जबकि 2 वोट इसके खिलाफ पड़े. लोकसभा में ये बिल दो-तिहाई बहुमत से पास हुआ. लोकसभा में पर्ची के जरिए वोटिंग हुई. अब लोकसभा और राज्य की विधानसभाओं में एक तिहाई सीट महिलाओं के लिए आरक्षित हो जाएंगी. आरक्षण लागू होने के बाद लोकसभा में महिला सांसदों की संख्या 181 हो जाएगी. महिला आरक्षण फिलहाल 15 साल के लिए लागू होगा, जो संसद की मंजूरी के बाद बढ़ सकता है. लोकसभा में महिला आरक्षण बिल पास होने के बाद पीएम नरेंद्र मोदी (PM Narendra Modi) और गृहमंत्री अमित शाह (Amit Shah) ने ट्वीट करके खुशी जाहिर की है.

"Canada Jeopardised Good Ties": Shashi Tharoor On Diplomatic Row

Reacting to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's allegation of Indian involvement in the killing of a Sikh separatist leader on its soil, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said that it was unfortunate that Mr Trudeau made such a statement in the Parliament and that Canada "jeopardised" the state of a very good relationship.

"We are seeing a tit-for-tat on both sides. First, on the expulsion of a diplomat and then on this advisory...I think it is unfortunate that Canada chose such a public route. If at all they have any issue, these matters should be discussed privately with a friendly govt like India and the matter should be discussed behind closed doors. Going public, making a statement in the Parliament was very unfortunate by the Prime Minister (Justin Trudeau) and having gone that far they (Canada) have really jeopardised the state of a very good relationship," Mr Tharoor told ANI.

Earlier in the day, BJP National Vice President Baijayant Jay Panda reacted to the issue and said that although Canada has been professing liberal values, they have been supporting terrorists on their soil.

"Canada has been professing all these liberal values like freedom of speech but they have been appeasing, patronising and supporting terrorists on their soil. And these terrorists are not just targeting India they have killed hundreds of Canadian citizens themselves," Mr Panda told ANI.

Hitting out at the Canadian government, Mr Panda said that the government of Canada does not allow a referendum for Quebec separatists but has no problem with Khalistani separatists who not only hold the referendum but also celebrate the acts of violence.

"Canada itself has separatist movements such as the Quebec Separatist movement. They don't allow the same freedom to those who want to have independence for Quebec. They don't allow a referendum for Quebec separatists. And yet they have no problem allowing Khalistani separatists and terrorists to not only have to try to have this referendum on Canadian soil but also to celebrate the acts of violence...This is not acceptable, It's not civilized," he said.

The BJP National Vice President also took a dig at the Canadian government and said that the Indian government must consider facilitating an online "referendum on the Quebec independence" issue just like they allow Khalistani separatists to try the same on Canadian soil.

"In the spirit of friendship with Canada, we in India must consider facilitating an online referendum on the Quebec independence issue (in gratitude for their allowing Khalistani separatists to try the same on Canadian soil). Perhaps we should also offer Indian soil for the Quebec independence movement's events commemorating their sacrifices, bombings and assassination attempts (again, just like Canada has been so considerate to allow for the Khalistanis)," Mr Panda posted on 'X'.

"This would also embellish the spirit of free speech so cherished in both our nations and would help clarify the increasing support for an independent Quebec (as reported in media earlier this year). Finally, since elected Canadian politicians who support Quebec independence have been travelling and meeting European leaders, we should also meet and understand their views. In the spirit of Indo-Canadian friendship and cooperation, I would be glad to host an interaction for them here in Delhi," he added.

This comes amid tensions in India-Canada relations after Canadian PM Justin Trudeau made allegations regarding the Indian government's involvement in the fatal shooting of Khalistan Tiger Force chief Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada.

The allegations were denied by the Ministry of External Affairs in India which dubbed the allegations as 'absurd' and 'motivated'.

Several world leaders have also expressed 'deep concerns' over Trudeau's remarks in the Canadian Parliament.
