Watch: Champaran Mutton, Courtesy Chefs Lalu Yadav And Rahul Gandhi

It was a special cooking class: chef Lalu Yadav showed apprentice Rahul Gandhi how to cook Champaran mutton, a famous meat preparation from Bihar. The Congress leader released the cooking video on Saturday.

"I know how to cook, but I'm not an expert. When I was working in Europe I had to learn to cook. I used to stay alone, so I had to learn. I can cook basic dishes. But I am not an expert," Mr Gandhi says in the video, adding that "Lalu Yadav ji makes great food".

Lalu Yadav, a famous practitioner of repeat-worthy dialogue, on being asked by the Congress leader when did he learn to cook, says, "I was in 6th or 7th standard. I had gone to Patna to meet my brothers, who were working there then. They had called me. I used to cook for them, gather firewood, wash utensils and grind the spices. I learnt it all there."

In the seven-minute video, the veteran Bihar leader can be seen instructing Rahul Gandhi on various steps involved in cooking the special dish: adding spices, marinating the meat and then putting it all in the handi.

As the dish was getting ready, Rahul Gandhi asks Mr Yadav about the secret spice in politics.

"The secret spice is hard work. To fight against injustice," says Mr Yadav.

How is this (cooking) different from politics? asks Rahul Gandhi, reminding the leader that he likes to "mix everything in politics".

"Yes, I do. Politics is impossible without a little mixing," says Mr Yadav.

During their conversation, Mr Gandhi asks the senior leader what was his advice for next generation of politicians?

"My suggestion is that your parents, your grandparents led the nation onto a new path, the path of righteousness, you should never forget that," says Mr Yadav.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav and his sister Misa Bharti were also present during the dinner.

All of them then can be seen around a big dining table enjoying the dish. At the end, Mr Gandhi also gets the mutton dish packed for his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

"Eyewash": Congress' Adhir Chowdhury Won't Join '1 Nation, 1 Poll' Panel

The leader of the Congress party in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has declined to be part of the eight-member committee headed by former President Ram Nath Kovind to see whether India could hold parliamentary and state assembly elections simultaneously.

In a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah, who is also part of the committee, Mr Chowdhury pointed out that Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge "has been excluded" from the committee, and instead they took former Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad.

"This is a deliberate insult to the system of parliamentary democracy," Mr Chowdhury said in the letter.

The other members of the committee are former 15th Finance Commission chairman NK Singh, former Lok Sabha Secretary General  Subhash C Kashyap, senior advocate Harish Salve, and former Chief Vigilance Commissioner Sanjay Kothari.

The committee will look into the feasibility of holding not only Lok Sabha and assembly elections simultaneously, but also elections to municipalities and panchayats, according to the gazette notification.

"I have no hesitation whatsoever in declining to serve on the committee whose terms of reference have been prepared in a manner to guarantee its conclusions. It is, I am afraid, a total eyewash. Moreover, the sudden attempt to thrust a constitutionally suspect, pragmatically non-feasible and logistically unimplementable idea on the nation, months before the general elections, raises serious concerns about ulterior motives of the government," the Congress leader said in the letter.

"Furthermore, I find that the current LOP in the Rajya Sabha has been excluded. This is a deliberate insult to the system of parliamentary democracy. In these circumstances, I have no option but to decline your invitation," Mr Chowdhury said.

The nine-member committee will check whether the amendments to the Constitution would need ratification by the states, according to the government's gazette notification today.

The committee will analyse and recommend possible solutions linked to simultaneous elections if there is a hung house, no-confidence motion, defection, or any such other event.

A single electoral roll and identity card for voters valid for the national, state, civic body and panchayat elections will be explored, the government said in the notification.

The BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have spoken on the need for 'One Nation, One Election' on several occasions, and it was also a part of the party's manifesto for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

Delhi Boy Detained For Slitting Throat Of Tutor Who Sexually Assaulted Him

A juvenile has been detained in Delhi for allegedly killing his 28-year-old tutor who sexually assaulted him on several occasions, police said on Saturday.

The accused was detained on Friday, three days after he allegedly murdered the man using a sharp weapon in an act of revenge, they added.

According to police, they received information around 2:15 pm on Wednesday that an apartment in Jamia Nagar was found open with blood splattered outside it.

On reaching the spot, the police team found the man's body lying on the floor with deep cut injuries on his neck, they said.

The tutor used to reside with his family in Zakir Nagar, a senior police officer said.

The one-room apartment where the body was found was owned by the man's family. The property was on rent and had been vacated by a tenant only a few days ago, the officer said. During the investigation, it was revealed that the man was allegedly homosexual and met the juvenile around two months ago, following which he allegedly sexually assaulted him several times, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Rajesh Deo said.

The tutor even recorded a private video of his student and threatened to release it on social media if he did not listen to his demands, the DCP said.

On the day of the incident, after receiving a call from his tutor to meet him at his Jamia Nagar house, the juvenile allegedly reached the apartment with a sharp paper cutter and slit the man's throat before fleeing the spot.

The accused has been apprehended and the mobile phone of the man, clothes and shoes worn by the juvenile at the time of the incident have been recovered from him, the police added.

Uddhav Thackeray Explains Why A Convenor "Not Needed" For INDIA Bloc

Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Friday said there was no need for a convenor of the opposition bloc INDIA as it has coordination committees that would work on the basis of consensus.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting of the bloc in Mumbai, the former Maharashtra chief minister also said the logo of INDIA was put on hold so that people's suggestions could be sought.

"There was a suggestion that we take people's views on the logo since this fight is for the cause of the people. We will seek their suggestions within a given timeframe and can come up with a better logo," he said.

"There is no confusion about the logo. We had two-three logos ready but put the unveiling on hold because everyone liked the suggestion that we go to the people. People's participation will be with us from day one," he asserted.

Speaking about the post of convenor for the bloc, Mr Thackeray said there will be a coordination committee in each state, which "will be the easy way forward".

Asserting that the INDIA alliance has taken a step forward, he said, "We have decided to ensure one-on-one fight (against the ruling BJP-led NDA) wherever possible." In Maharashtra, the Peasants and Workers Party (PWP) has joined the bloc and talks are underway with the Prakash Ambedkar-led Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi, while coordination committees in other states will discuss likewise (to bring more parties into the fold), the Shiv Sena (UBT) chief informed.

These committees will report to the president of the respective alliance partners, Mr Thackeray added.

He was speaking to reporters after interacting with functionaries of the labour union, which is affiliated to his party, of the suburban hotel that hosted the INDIA meet.

Mr Thackeray said the two-day deliberations of a wide array of opposition parties was a success.

A date for the next meeting of the INDIA bloc was not announced at the end of these deliberations since it was not needed as all the leaders would directly go to the people, he said.

A joint public rally might be held soon, while gatherings will be held in every state, Mr Thackeray told reporters.

He also said holding a special session of Parliament during Ganpati festivities was wrong, and asked if this government (at the Centre) was "anti-Hindu".

"Lord Ganesh is called vighnaharta (remover of obstacles). We hope with his arrival the nation's troubles will end," he said in an apparent swipe at the ruling dispensation.

On Thursday, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi announced that the Union government had convened a special five-day session of the Parliament from September 18 to 22.

"Have Completed Rehearsal For Launch": ISRO Chief On Aditya-L1 Mission

After the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the Moon, India is gearing up for its Sun mission 'Aditya-L1'. Indian Space Research Organisation chief S Somnath has said that the ISRO team has completed rehearsal for the launch.

Speaking to the media, ISRO Chief said, "We are just getting ready for the launch. The rocket and satellite are ready, we have completed the rehearsal for the launch. Tomorrow we have to start the countdown for the launch, the day after tomorrow."

Aditya-L1 would be the first space-based Indian observatory to study the Sun.

Earlier on August 14, ISRO informed about mission Aditya-L1, the first space-based Indian observatory to study the Sun and said that it is getting ready for the launch.

"PSLV-C57/Aditya-L1 Mission: Aditya-L1, the first space-based Indian observatory to study the Sun, is getting ready for the launch. The satellite realised at the U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), Bengaluru has arrived at SDSC-SHAR, Sriharikota," ISRO said in a post on 'X' (formerly Twitter).

According to an ISRO statement, the Aditya L1 spacecraft carries seven payloads to observe the photosphere, chromosphere and the outermost layers of the Sun (the corona) using electromagnetic particle and magnetic field detectors. Using the special vantage point L1, four payloads directly view the Sun and the remaining three payloads carry out in-situ studies of particles and fields at the Lagrange point L1, thus providing important scientific studies of the propagatory effect of solar dynamics in the interplanetary medium.

The suits of Aditya L1 payloads are expected to provide the most crucial information to understand the problem of coronal heating, coronal mass ejection, pre-flare and flare activities and their characteristics, dynamics of space weather, propagation of particles and fields, the statement said.
