"During UPA Regime Terrorists Would Cross Over...": Amit Shah's Swipe

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said during the previous UPA government at the Centre, Pakistan-based terrorists would often cross over to Indian territory and launch attacks, while asserting that the people of the country now feel safe under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Mr Shah said this while addressing a function in Lucknow to mark the 74th birth anniversary of late Kurmi (a backward caste) leader Sonelal Patel, the father of Union minister Anupriya Patel, which was celebrated as "Jan Swabhiman Divas".

Launching a scathing attack on the previous Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, Mr Shah said, "There was the UPA government, the government of Sonia-Manmohan, when almost every day, terrorists would cross over to India from Pakistan, explode bombs, kill our jawans and go back." "After Modiji became the prime minister, Pakistan's audacity was again on display when there were terror attacks in Uri and Pulwama. However, this time, they had forgotten that the rule is not of 'Maunibaba' Manmohan Singh, (but) of Narendra Modi and that of the NDA," he said.

Mr Shah said within 10 days of the attacks, the Army was issued orders and surgical strikes and airstrikes were conducted to kill the terrorists involved.

"Today, the entire country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is feeling safe. Also, the pride of the country has gone up in the world under the leadership of Modiji," Shah said.

Delhi Metro's 2 Sealed Liquor Bottles Rule On Train Will Not Work In Noida

Delhi Metro commuters landing in Uttar Pradesh's Noida with sealed liquor bottles may land in trouble, cautioned excise officials here on Saturday.

The word of caution comes a day after the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced permitting commuters to carry up to two sealed bottles of liquor on its network.

Besides Delhi, DMRC's metro rail network expands to nearby cities like Gurgaon and Faridabad in Haryana, and Noida and Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh.

In Uttar Pradesh, the excise rules ban the import of liquor from outside the state, citing loss to the state government's revenue.

Officials said the current rule permits import of only one unsealed bottle from adjoining Delhi or Haryana, whether by metro or road.

"Although the Delhi Metro has allowed commuters to carry two sealed bottles of liquor, but rules of the Uttar Pradesh Excise Department will apply in UP's territories, irrespective of any changes in Delhi," Noida District Excise Officer Subodh Srivastava told PTI.

The officer added that the excise department will step up vigilance at metro stations and take legal action against those caught with sealed liquor bottles brought from outside UP.

"We will also try to raise awareness among people about the excise rules in UP to avoid inconvenience to the commuters," Srivastava said.

Liquor is usually cheaper in Haryana and Delhi as compared to Uttar Pradesh. On several occasions in the past, people bringing sealed liquor bottles from Delhi to Noida via road have been arrested. An official said in such a situation, action against an offender is taken under Section 63 of the Excise Act (penalty for unlawful import, export, transport, manufacture, possession, sale) which is a non-bailable offence.

Carrying of alcohol was banned in the Delhi Metro until recently except on the Airport Express Line and allowing it across the network is a part of the policy to bring in uniformity, the DMRC said on Friday.

According to the Delhi Metro, a committee comprising officials from the CISF and the DMRC reviewed the list of items allowed to be carried in trains.

However, the metro operator has requested passengers to maintain proper decorum while travelling and warned that any commuter found behaving in an indecent manner under the influence of alcohol, will face suitable action as per law.

Parliamentary Committee To Discuss Uniform Code Next Week: Rajya Sabha MP

Senior BJP leader and head of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice, Sushil Modi on Friday said the panel will seek the views of all stakeholders on the issue of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in its meeting on July 3.

Talking to reporters here on Friday, Mr Modi said that the meeting of the committee is non-political as the panel has members from all political parties.

"We will discuss the Law Commission's report on the UCC on July 3. If required, we will call another meeting to discuss the matter further. The committee is completely neutral," he said.

Members of the committee have been informed that their inputs on UCC will be sought and considered during the July 3 meeting.

According to the schedule of the standing committee, the panel will hear the views of representatives of the law panel and legal affairs and legislative departments of the law ministry on a public notice issued by the Law Commission of India on June 14, 2023, inviting views from the various stakeholders on the Uniform Civil Code under the subject 'Review of Personal Laws'.

Till Tuesday evening, the law panel had received nearly 8.5 lakh responses on its public notice.

UCC refers to a common set of laws governing personal matters like marriage, divorce, inheritance and adoption, among others, of all citizens.

"In more than a dozen cases, the Supreme Court has said that the UCC should be implemented as soon as possible. The court has repeated this time and again," Mr Modi said.

"I don't understand why the same age for marriage can't be fixed for all. It is being propagated that the UCC will affect religious customs and rituals. If criminal law is the same for all people in the country, then why can't civil law be that way?" Mr Modi said.

The prime minister had on Tuesday made a fresh pitch for UCC at a rally in Bhopal, evoking criticism from the opposition, which has claimed it was "polarisation" tactics.

Reports suggest that the NDA government at the Centre may introduce a bill on implementing the UCC during the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament, set to begin in the third week of July

2 Dead 5 Injured After Explosion In Andhra Pradesh Pharma Company

Two persons died and five others suffered burn injuries, with two of them sustaining severe injuries, following an explosion on Friday at Sahiti Pharma company, located in Atchutapuram of Anakapalli district, police said.

Two persons who had sustained 90 per cent chemical burns in the blast succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at KGH Hospital in Visakhapatnam. Four others are also being treated there, including two for severe burns, police said.

One other person is admitted in Star Zen Hospital in Atchutapuram itself.

There were 35 people in the plant when the explosion occurred and most of them escaped unhurt, a statement from the state government said.

According to the preliminary report, the blast took place while loading solvents into the solvent recovery plant of the pharma company in the Atchutapuram special economic zone (SEZ) around 11.45 AM, police said.

Anakapalli District Superintendent of Police KV Murali Krishna told PTI on Friday said the injured suffered chemical burns, adding that chemical burns are dangerous and that the best treatment is being given to the victims.

"Probably some reaction led to the blast and the fire has spread. It is a solvent recovery plant. While loading the solvents, some reactions may have happened. This is the preliminary report," said Krishna.

Meanwhile, the inspector of factories is preparing a report on how the accident occurred, said Krishna.

Following the accident, police rushed to the spot to douse the flames and control the crowds gathered there so that they do not approach the accident site.

As many as 10 fire tenders were rushed to the accident site to put out the fire, which is now believed to be under control, the government statement added.

The inspector of factories has ruled out any possible leak of toxic gases.

Immediately after the incident, police arranged for ambulances to shift the injured and made arrangements at NTR Government Hospital in Anakapalli town to treat them, police said.

Savarkar To Be Part Of Madhya Pradesh School Syllabus: Shivraj Chouhan

Lessons on Hindutva ideologue late VD Savarkar will be taught in Madhya Pradesh schools, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Thursday.

Chief Minister Chouhan said Savarkar served double life sentences in the infamous Cellular Jail in the Andamans and such were the rigours that he came to know about the incarceration of his brother (Ganesh Savarkar) "years later".

"Even today if you go to Cellular Jail, you will know how he lived there. Lessons on someone who dedicated his entire life to the nation will be taught in schools," he told reporters in Morena.

Earlier in the day, MP school education minister Inder Singh Parmar said lessons on Savarkar will be included in the school syllabus as part of the National Education Policy (NEP).

Mr Parmar also alleged that the Congress, which ruled the country for a major part after Independence, ignored many revolutionaries while concentrating on glorifying just one family.

"As part of the NEP, the life of Bhagwan Parshuram, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Subhash Chandra Bose and Veer Savarkar and (teachings of) Gita will be included (in the syllabus) as part of India's knowledge tradition so that people get to know about their contribution," Mr Parmar told PTI.

Criticising the move, Madhya Pradesh Congress media cell chairperson KK Mishra termed it as a political one ahead of year-end Assembly polls.

He said the Bharatiya Janata Party government in the state was seeking to divert the attention of people from core problems like inflation and unemployment.

KK Mishra also said a lesson from 'Savarkar Samagra', in which the Hindutva ideologue advocated cow rearing and not cow worship, must also be included.
