Nearly 400 Coins Dating Back To Mughal Era Found in UP: Cops

Around 400 coins dating back to the Mughal era were found during the construction work at a temple in the Nanauta area here, police said on Monday.

Superintendent of Police (Rural) Sagar Jain said a few labourers stumbled upon the coins on Sunday night while digging soil for erecting a boundary wall at Sati Dham temple in Hussainpur village here.

After being informed about the discovery, the police reached the spot and took the coins in their custody, he added.

Mr Jain said the coins having inscriptions in Arabic language were used during the Mughal period.

The archaeological department will examine the coins and confirm the metal used in making them, the SP added.

Bill To Link Birth, Death Data With Electoral Rolls Soon: Amit Shah

The government is planning to bring a bill in Parliament to link data related to birth and death with electoral rolls and the overall development process, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Monday.

Inaugurating the 'Janganana Bhawan', the office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India, Mr Shah said the census is a process that may form the basis of the development agenda.

Digital, complete and accurate census figures will have multi-dimensional benefits, he said, adding planning based on the census data ensures development reaches the poorest of the poor.

Mr Shah also said if the birth and death certificate data are preserved in a special way, development works can be planned properly.

"A bill to link death and birth register with electoral rolls will be introduced in parliament. Under this process, when a person turns 18, his or her name will be automatically included in the electoral rolls. Similarly, when a person dies, that information automatically will go to the Election Commission, which will start the process of deleting the name from the voters' list," he said.

Officials said the bill to amend the Registration of Birth and Death Act (RBD), 1969, will also facilitate matters related to the issuance of driving licences and passports and giving benefits of the government welfare schemes to people besides others.

"If the data of birth and death certificate is preserved in a special way, then by estimating the time between the census, planning of development works can be done properly," he said.

Earlier the development process happened in fragments because adequate data for development was not available, he said.

After 70 years of independence planning was adopted to electrify every village, to give a home to everyone, to give tap drinking water to everyone, to give healthcare to everyone, to give toilets to every home, Mr Shah said.

"It took so long because no one had the idea as to how much money will be required to fulfil these basic necessities because the utility of the census was not conceived, the data related to the census were not accurate, the available data was not accessible online and coordination with census and planning authorities were absent," he said.

"I have been involved in the development process for the last 28 years and have seen that the development in our country has been demand-based. Public representatives who had sway could extract more benefits of development for his or her constituency. This is one of the reasons why our development has been fragmented and more expensive due to duplicacy," he said.

Along with the new Janganana Bhawan, the minister also inaugurated a web portal for registrations of birth and death.

A collection of census reports, an online sale portal of census reports, and an upgraded version of the SRS mobile app equipped with a geofencing facility were also unveiled.

Mr Shah said the mobile app equipped with geo-fencing will ensure that the authorities know that the enumerators record data by going to the blocks assigned to him or her and no one can make fake entries without visiting the blocks.

This will ensure that the data recorded are accurate, he said.

"Census is a process that outlines a nation's development process. So it is very much necessary to make it fool proof and flawless by using technologies like upgraded version of the SRS mobile app equipped with a geo-fencing facility," he said.

He said enumeration in the next census will be carried out in an electronic format where self-enumeration will also be allowed.

Hyderabad Delivery Man Falls From 3rd Floor While Escaping Customer's Dog

A delivery person of an e-commerce firm was injured after falling from the third-floor of a building in Hyderabad when he tried to evade the customer's barking dog, police said.

The incident took place in an apartment at Manikonda on Sunday when the delivery executive, aged 30, went there to deliver a mattress and the dog started barking at the customer's door, which was reportedly partly open, they said.

Afraid of being attacked, the man ran for safety and climbed a railing but slipped and fell on the ground from there, police said, adding that the customer and some others got him admitted to a hospital and his condition is said to be out of danger.

The delivery person suffered multiple injuries in the incident, a police official at the Raidurgam police station said.

A case has been registered under the IPC section 289 (negligent conduct with respect to animal) against the dog owner, the official said. A probe is on.

Meanwhile, the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU) in a release demanded that the dog owner bear the expenses of treatment of the delivery executive.

In January this year, a 23-year-old food delivery executive died after he suffered critical injuries after jumping off the third floor of an apartment building, out of fear of being attacked by a pet dog of a customer that chased him.

"Unprecedented Power, Water Crisis" In Jharkhand, Alleges BJP MP

Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Ranchi Sanjay Seth said that Jharkhand including the capital Ranchi is facing an unprecedented power and water crisis.

While addressing a press conference, Sanjay Seth said, "Today the entire state including the capital Ranchi is facing an unprecedented power and water crisis. As the temperatures have increased, the problems of electricity and water shortage have increased."

He further stated that Hemant Soren-led government is silent on this matter.

"There is a hue and cry in the state due to the power-water crisis. The current Hemant Soren-led UPA government is completely silent on this issue. The government has become inactive in providing adequate water and electricity to the public."

"Due to lack of electricity, fans are switched off, now people are forced to use hand fans. They are sending pots and lanterns to the Chief Minister," he added.

He also mentioned that a big movement will be done in the state if problems related to power and water are not rectified.

"Crime is at its peak in the state, the people of the state are demanding that the Yogi model should be implemented in the state. Jharkhand can be developed only by the implementation of the Yogi model, people will get electricity and water, and crime can end. I warn that if the problem of electricity and water is not rectified, then a big movement will be done. I request the government to fulfill the promises with which the government came into power," he said.

Team Thackeray Won't Win More Than 50 Seats In Mumbai Civic Body Polls: BJP

The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena won't be able to win more than 50 seats in the next elections to the Mumbai civic body, city BJP president Ashish Shelar claimed on Sunday. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has 227 seats.

Addressing a gathering of top leaders of BJP's Mumbai unit, including legislators and senior functionaries, Ashish Shelar said people have rejected the Thackeray camp.

"The Shiv Sena was in power in BMC for a long time because of the BJP's support. In the next elections of the BMC, Thackeray camp would not be able to cross 50 seats (out of 227)," Mr Shelar said.

The Shiv Sena (undivided) has ruled the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, said to be the richest civic body in the country, for more than 30 years. In the 2017 BMC elections, Shiv Sena won 84 seats while BJP finished second with a difference of just two seats.

"In 1997, Shiv Sena had 103 corporators in BMC. This number came down to 97 and 84, respectively, in the subsequent elections. In 2012, Shiv Sena could bag only 75 seats, but it won 84 seats again (in 2017) because the party was sharing power with BJP in the state," Shelar said.

He alleged the citizens of Mumbai have rejected the Thackeray-led Shiv Sena.

"The citizens trust honesty, but Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray is a big name in the misappropriation of funds," he alleged.

The schedule of elections to civic bodies in Maharashtra, including Mumbai, is not announced yet.

Notably, during his recent visit to Mumbai, BJP president JP Nadda had appealed to the party cadres to ensure that the next mayor of Mumbai is from the BJP.

Since its formation, the Shiv Sena considers Mumbai as its citadel as it expanded the party base with its son-of-soil brand of politics.

The last mayor of Mumbai before the five-year term of the BMC ended in March 2022 was Kishori Pednekar, who belongs to Uddhav Thackeray-led faction. The state government appointed the administrator in the BMC as elections could not be held before the expiry of the five-year term.

In the 2017 BMC elections, the BJP made giant strides by winning 82 of 227 seats, just two seats behind the Shiv Sena (undivided).

In June 2022, a bulk of Shiv Sena MLAs and MPs rebelled against Uddhav Thackeray and joined the faction led by Eknath Shinde, which was later recognised as the real Shiv Sena by the Election Commission of India.

However, it is believed that the Mumbai-based cadres and the extensive shakha (branch) network of Shiv Sena is still intact and fiercely loyal to the Thackerays.
