देश की सबसे सुरक्षित जेल तिहाड़ इन दिनों 'चाकूबाज़' कैदियों से परेशान है. बीते 19 दिनों में यहां दो गैंगवार की घटनाएं हुई. इन घटनाओं में दो बड़े गैंगस्टर की हत्या कर दी गई. 14 अप्रैल को प्रिंस तेवतिया की हत्या कर दी गई थी. 2 मई को एक और गैंगस्टर टिल्लू ताजपुरिया की हत्या कर गई है. ऐसे में तिहाड़ जेल प्रशासन की सुरक्षा को लेकर सवाल उठ रहे हैं. सबसे बड़ा सवाल यह है कि आखिर एशिया की सबसे सुरक्षित समझी जाने वाली तिहाड़ जेल में कैदियों के पास चाकू कहां से आता है.  तिहाड़ जेल सूत्रों के मुताबिक, एग्जॉस्ट फैन की ब्लेड तोड़कर या फिर खिड़की की जाली को तोड़कर या किसी भी ऐसी लोहे की धातु को घिसकर उसे धारदार बनाया जाता है. जो चाकू की तरह काम करता है. ऐसी चीज के पीछे कपड़ा बांधकर उसका हत्था तैयार किया जाता है. जेल में कैदी अपने दुश्मन गैंग के लोगों पर हमला करने के लिए इस तरह से चाकू बनाते हैं.  जेल नंबर 8-9 में कुल 2350 कैदी वारदात को अंजाम देने से पहले कई दिनों तक पत्थर पर घिसकर ऐसे चाकुओं को धार दिया जाता है. अप्रैल में जेल नंबर 8 और 9 में कुल 32 बार सर्च ऑपरेशन चलाया गया. इस दौरान 22 चाकू...

Former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia Wednesday approached the Delhi High Court seeking bail in a money laundering case related to the alleged excise policy scam. The plea was mentioned before Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma for an urgent listing and was allowed to be listed for hearing on Thursday, when it will be heard before Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma. Mr Sisodia has filed a regular bail plea as well as an interim bail application on the ground of illness of his wife. In his regular bail plea filed in the CBI case, Mr Sisodia had earlier argued that his wife has been suffering from multiple sclerosis, a degenerative disease, for 20 years and it was likely to worsen. The Supreme Court on Tuesday said the judgments delivered by it are the "law of the land" and there is no question of anyone violating the principles laid down in the verdicts. The court made these observations while hearing a matter relating to the compliance of its July last year verdict, in which it had passed several directions, including that the Centre may consider the introduction of a separate enactment in the nature of a bail Act so as to streamline the process of grant of bail. "A judgment of this court, including the one in Antil's case (in which the July 2022 verdict was delivered), is the law of the land. There is no question of anyone violating the principles laid down. The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday filed a charge sheet against alleged conman Kiran Patel who was arrested for posing as a senior PMO official and enjoying security cover, officials said. The charge sheet against Patel, who is currently lodged in the Central Jail here, was filed in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Srinagar. The fraudster, hailing from Gujarat, was arrested for allegedly posing as an additional director (strategy and campaigns) in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) and enjoying many perks, including a bulletproof car and security cover besides other hospitality, police said. Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday said the Narendra Modi government has not done anything to undermine the judiciary's independence, and every institution should respect the 'Lakshman rekha' or boundary set by the Constitution. Speaking at an event organised by the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa, he sought to refute the narrative that the government was exerting pressure on the judiciary. "It is a misunderstanding that the government is trying to put any kind of pressure on the judiciary. We are not only maintaining the judiciary's independence but working to strengthen it," Mr Rijiju said.
