AAP के राज्यसभा सांसद संजय सिंह समेत 6 आरोपियों को 3 महीने की जेल, 1500 का लगा जुर्माना

बिजली, पानी की समस्या को लेकर सड़क जाम करने के करीब 22 साल पुराने एक मामले में सुल्तानपुर की स्थानीय अदालत में आम आदमी पार्टी (आप) के राज्यसभा सदस्य संजय सिंह और समाजवादी पार्टी (सपा) के पूर्व विधायक अनूप संडा समेत छह आरोपियों को बुधवार को तीन महीने कारावास और 1500 रुपये जुर्माने की सजा सुनाई. इन सभी को अदालत ने बचाव पक्ष की अर्जी पर अपील की अवधि तक जमानत पर रिहा कर दिया.

विशेष मजिस्ट्रेट (एमपी/एमएलए अदालत) योगेश यादव की अदालत ने छह आरोपियों को भारतीय दंड विधान की धारा 143 (गैर कानूनी सभा) और 341 (किसी व्यक्ति को गलत तरीके से रोकना) के तहत दोषी ठहराते हुए ये सजा सुनाई. 22 साल पहले बिजली-पानी समेत अन्य समस्याओं को लेकर सड़क पर जाम लगाने, धरना प्रदर्शन करने सहित अन्य आरोपों में कोतवाली नगर में 19 जून, 2001 को सभी के खिलाफ मुकदमा दर्ज कराया गया था.

पुलिस ने राज्यसभा सदस्य संजय सिंह, सपा के प्रदेश प्रवक्ता व पूर्व विधायक अनूप संडा और पूर्व सभासद कमल श्रीवास्तव समेत सात लोगों के खिलाफ अदालत में आरोपपत्र दाखिल किया था. मुकदमा विचारण के दौरान प्रेम प्रकाश नामक आरोपी की मौत हो गई थी.

सांसद संजय सिंह ने पत्रकारों से बातचीत में कहा कि 2001 में उन्होंने भीषण गर्मी में 36 घंटे बिजली न रहने पर लोकतांत्रिक प्रक्रिया के तहत बिजली विभाग के खिलाफ प्रदर्शन किया था. इस प्रदर्शन में कांग्रेस और सपा समेत कई दलों के लोग भी शामिल हुए थे. उन्होंने कहा कि अदालत ने छह लोगों को तीन महीने की कारावास व 1500 रुपये जुर्माने की सजा सुनाई है. अदालत के इस निर्णय को ऊंची अदालत में चुनौती देंगे, क्योंकि लोकतांत्रिक ढंग से विरोध जताना सभी का नैतिक अधिकार है.

अब अलीगढ़ के मकानों में भी जोशीमठ जैसी दरारें, प्रशासन ने बताई ये वजह

उत्तराखंड के जोशीमठ इलाके में जमीन धंसने की घटनाओं के बीच अलीगढ़ के कंवरीगंज इलाके में भी कुछ घरों में अचानक दरार आने की खबर है. इन दरारों से स्थानीय लोगों में दहशत का माहौल है. एक स्थानीय ने बताया कि पिछले कई दिनों से हमारे कुछ घरों में दरारें आ गई हैं. जिससे हम लोग दहशत में रहने को मजबूर हैं. हमने इसकी शिकायत भी की है लेकिन नगर निगम के अधिकारी कोई ठोस कार्रवाई नहीं कर रहे हैं और केवल आश्वासन दे रहे हैं. हमलोगों को इस बात का डर है कि कहीं यह घर गिर ना जाए.

स्थानीय लोगों के अनुसार सरकार द्वारा स्मार्ट सिटी योजना के तहत पाइप लाइन बिछाई गई थी, जो अब कथित तौर पर लीक हो रही है, जिससे दरारें आ रही हैं. एक अन्य स्थानीय अफशा मशरूर ने कहा कि तीन-चार दिन हो गए हैं. हमने विभाग को इसके बारे में सूचित किया है, लेकिन अभी तक कोई सहायता प्रदान नहीं की गई है. हमें आतंक में जीने के लिए मजबूर किया जा रहा है. उधर, नगर निगम के अपर आयुक्त राकेश कुमार यादव ने मामले का संज्ञान लेते हुए कहा है कि विभाग द्वारा आवश्यक कार्रवाई की जाएगी.

उन्होंने कहा कि हमें अभी सूचना मिली है कि कांवरीगंज क्षेत्र में कुछ मकानों में दरारें आ गई हैं। मामला अभी पूरी तरह से संज्ञान में नहीं आया है। अब हम अपनी टीम को मौके पर भेजेंगे और नगर निगम द्वारा आवश्यक कार्रवाई की जाएगी.

18-Month-Old Killed Over Land Dispute In Bihar, 3 Arrested: Cops

Police in Bihar's Jehanabad arrested three persons after an 18-month-old infant was allegedly killed during a land dispute.

Police said they reached the spot after receiving the information about the incident.

Harivansh Kumar, ASP, Jehanabad said, "Three people have been arrested. they have been accused of killing the infant. The woman had joined the fight with her child".

"There was a fight between two parties over a land dispute, during which the woman started to quarrel with her one-and-a-half-month-old child in her lap. During the quarrel, the child allegedly fell on the ground and died," Kumar added.

"They attacked with stones and lathis (sticks). He was one-and-a-half-year-old," Chini Lal Kumar, father of the child told ANI.

Police have not yet revealed the identity of the three accused.

"We have taken possession of the body," police added. The area falls under the Vishunganj OP Police station.

Police said they have started further investigation into this murder case.

Indian-Origin Ranj Pillai To Head Canada's Yukon Territory

Indian-origin Cabinet minister Ranj Pillai will on January 14 take oath as the tenth premier of Canada's territory of Yukon, becoming the second politician of Indian heritage to head a region in the country, according to a media report on Tuesday.

Mr Pillai, whose roots can be traced from Kerala, was on January 8 unanimously chosen as the leader of Yukon Liberal Party, the party said in a statement on its website. Mr Pillai was the only candidate in the running when nominations closed on January 7, Yukon News reported.

"I am honoured and humbled to be acclaimed as the leader of the Yukon Liberal Party. We have so much to be proud of and I'm very excited for what the future of the Yukon holds," Mr Pillai tweeted on Tuesday.

The Yukon government's executive council office said Mr Pillai and his Cabinet will be sworn in on the coming Saturday afternoon in a public ceremony in the foyer of the Jim Smith Building.

He will become just the second premier in Canadian history of Indian heritage, following Ujjal Dosanjh who held that post in the province of British Columbia between 2000 and 2001.

There are 10 provinces and three territories in Canada.

Ranj Pillai said in a statement issued by his campaign after the announcement that he was "committed to working hard, seeking common ground, acting strategically, and to fiercely defending the interests of the Yukon".

"I look forward to serving all Yukoners as our dedicated team continues to make this territory one of the best places to call home," he said.

The leader also thanked outgoing Premier Sandy Silver for his "leadership and dedication".

Premier Silver -- the longest-serving current premier in the country who has been party leader since 2012 and led the party to victory in two elections -- announced on September 9 last year that he would step down from the helm after the party found a new leader to take over the premiership.

The current MLA for Porter Creek South, Mr Pillai was first elected to the Yukon Legislative Assembly in the 2016 territorial election.

"Until I Shiver, I Won't Wear Sweater": Rahul Gandhi On Wearing T-shirt

Amid talk raging about his wearing a T-shirt despite the winter chill during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday said he decided to wear only T-shirts during the march after meeting three poor girls "shivering in torn clothes" in Madhya Pradesh.

"People ask me why I am wearing this white T-shirt, don't I feel cold. I will tell you the reason. When the yatra began... in Kerala, it was hot and humid. But when we entered Madhya Pradesh, it was slightly cold.

"One day three poor girl children in torn clothes came to me...When I held them, they were shivering as they were not wearing proper clothes. On that day, I took a decision that till the time I do not shiver, I will only wear a T-shirt," Mr Gandhi said, while addressing a street corner meeting in Haryana's Ambala this evening

Rahul Gandhi said that he wants to give out a message to those girls.

"When I start shivering, then I will think of wearing a sweater. I want to give a message to those three girls that if you are feeling cold, then Rahul Gandhi will also feel cold," he said.

During Uttar Pradesh-leg of the yatra, the Wayanad MP had last week said that the media is highlighting his attire but taking "no notice of the poor farmers and labourers walking along with him in torn clothes".

"My being in T-shirt is not a real question, the real question is why are the farmers, poor labourers of the country and their children are in torn clothes, T-shirts and without sweaters," he had said in Bhagpat.

On Monday, Mr Gandhi also targeted PM Fasal Bima Yojana and said when crops are destroyed due to vagaries of weather and other reasons and affected beneficiaries go to seek compensation, they come to know that the company is nowhere to be found.

Citing newspaper reports, the former Congress chief further said in Himachal Pradesh, entire apple trade is in the hands of one industrialist. "If you go to Jammu and Kashmir, again entire apple trade in the hands of same industrialist," he said.

Touching upon farmers who protested against now repealed central farm laws, Mr Gandhi said Congress party raised demand in Parliament that "700 farmers had died during stir against farm laws, at least acknowledge their sacrifice and give them martyr status, but government does not accept they had died".

Currently, the march is passing through Haryana.

The yatra, which started from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu on September 7, will end after reaching Srinagar on January 30 with Gandhi hoisting the national flag there.

The march has so far covered Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
